Again this thing is cliche free, one of the most creative and surreal adventure films I've ever come across, this thing for me transcends modern animation. The brilliant empowered protagonists and characters of the Ghibli universe will forever gain my respect and the variety of concepts on display make this far more than any average childrens film. Very deep and bordering on spiritual, this is a must see for any fan of cinema, never mind animation.

Wants to be intellectual despite the fact it's a terribly melodramatic storyline with a tonne of mindless gore and trashy sex. Random child abuse and animal cruelty thrown in there for shock effect, that really didn't work for me..

The return of unnecessary cliche and emotion bating melodrama, also the return of generic high pitch and eXtreme mega eye characters...

A couple who can't touch each other because ones a spirit but he's actually an abandoned human *queue emotion bating strings*. Cringe dialogue towards the end bordering on unbearable, stupid attempts at 'wacky' humour just fall so flat, the whole concept and execution so devoid of creativity and ingenuity. Whilst I like the art style and cinematography, very modern yet somehow natural, despite this it's a bland and passable 'adventure' and one that really lacks any kind of imagination and creativity.

Continued watching to see how bad it would get, answer: unbearably so.

I got 5 mins into it... I consider that a grand achievement given how uninventive it was.
