Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru
and my reaction to this is WTF??? I wanted to turn this off several times - it was the intellectual equivalent of diarrhea... pretty drawings, bishonen, and dramatic-sou music do not make a good anime if the story is shit, kono mitai.... the only thing that kept me from just turning it off was wanting to see how it ended... which was actually fairly well, the entire thing considered. but oh, my god...
this had the potential to be interesting, if it was done well, but it was shallow all around, and just sucked. I'm going to watch the movie and see if it's any better... and god, I hope so, or even matsu jun won't be enough to make me sit thru it. Downloaded Episodes: 1 |

Chobits
Some of the earlier eps are kinda annoying, cause Motosuwa does all that freaking out. But I thought it was a nice change when he just handed her a shirt that time with Ueda and Yumi. I would have liked to see more detail in the end - it seemed so late to start that sort of thing, and kinda half-assedly done. Reading the manga might be better for that sort of thing.

D.N.Angel
The artwork is beautiful, and I like the music. Can't say the character design is very original, but I guess that's okay; the premise makes up for it. Haven't gotten very far in, but it's intriguing. Hiwatari is so cute!! I love the scenes with him and Daisuke, esp. at the end - it's like a classic "I need space, it's not you, it's me" speech.
I have to say, Im kinda disappointed with the relationships - Harada Risa is nice, but she's also pretty typical Japanese romantic-interest-girl. -shrugs- I guess they're accurate, at least. after watching the wholething, i was kinda disappointed by the "toss risa and hiwatari together" thing at the end. and interested in the way Daisuke's relationship with each female character expresses a whole range of japanese attitudes toward women... Fushigi Yuugi OVA
While I was glad to see the gang all back in action, it was a lil too emo for me... the whole "we still can't be together" and "what was it all for" thing kinda bothered me. Seemed like there was a lot of build-up that was resolved within the space of 5 mins. the omake were hilarious. perhaps the minor characters were given more attention in the manga, and so it made sense to bring them back.
hopefully they will continue this line in the next one... seems like so much draggining out tho...
how the hell does it continue if the book is sealed??

Fushigi Yuugi: Dai Ni Bu
Seems like Yui keeps getting the short end of the stick in these... and it would have been interesting to see the whole, Miaka meeting Taka thing... I mean, we got a hint of it, but other than that, he just kind of shows up.
and how in the hell did Tenkou/the book become unsealed? i think part of what is so annoying about watching this is that the only files of it available are small and bad - pixelation all thru it. Also, it's kinda repetitive. Let's go get Hotohori's jewel, then Nuriko's. Next will probably be Chiriko and Mitsukake (who is strangely absent). Yawn, it was getting boring. Except that there's slash ALL OVER THE PLACE. Seriously - did you see the shot of Taka and Tasuki in bed together? Watase always likes to put fun things in like that (and the incestuous demon siblings). And then Tamahome came back! That was a surprise... wonder how that will turn out. It's about damn time Suzaku stepped in and helped a bit instead of letting his seishi all get killed. Maybe it's because I finished the main series a while ago, but I can't remember exactly why the Seishi exist. To protect Miaka, yeah, but what's the point - why even have her be a priestess anyway. Altho there is that stipulation of her being a virgin, so he must be as horny as any other god around. The end gets kinda preachy... but then, that happens. And the whole Taka/Tamahome thing... Fushigi Yuugi: Eikouden
I really liked this OVA - I thought it was much better than the previous two. For one, the story made sense, something the other ones definitely lacked. Also the music in this was very good, as well as the animation - i thought the fake gods were very well rendered and pretty beautiful. Though you gotta wonder what the hell the villain was, anyway, and why the hell the other gods didn't have a hissy fit about him using their likenesses to terrorize another country. Also, did the reborn Shichiseishi stay in their original forms or what?

Hitsuji no Uta
Well, this is a disappointment, in a lot of ways. The artwork is a bit boring, the music is over-dramatic and repetitive, and let's face it, not a lot really happens. The artists like reusing the same footage, and chopping it up to make everything dramatic, but it really just shows how cheaply this was made.

Howl no Ugoku Shiro
I love this movie!!! I think it is my favorite of the ghibli films, so far. the art is gorgeous, the music is great... I feel like the story could have been fleshed out a bit more, but that kind of thing always happens when you turn a book into a movie.

InuYasha
The voice acting in the dub can be slightly annoying... it's pretty bad.
This is such a long series, that I can see why so many people get bored with it. I enjoy it, but sometimes it's bothersome that they haven't fricking killed Naraku already. It's rather character-driven. The plot of them collecting the shards is really just a front to have them interact in a variety of situations, I think. 124 - finally, the shichinintai arc is over... and kikyou's dead?? i'm not too sure about that one... 132- ya, sango and miroku get together!! i've been waiting for that. i'm kinda annoyed that's there's 30 eps left and naraku hasnt shown himself yet tho... wow. except for that lil bit of fluff at the end to pacify us girls, that was disappointing. there was fucking NO RESOLUTION WHATSOEVER. What happened to everyone? we never saw kouga or ayame again. what the fuck was up with that temple guy, gouryoumaru or whatever? i think sunrise did a bit of a crappy job ending this. God Nakajima was annoying... I'm glad she's gotten better... I'm not sure if I found her or Suzu more annoying with that damn self-pity and crying. And what's up with Shoukei looking at Rakushun like that?? He is sooo Youko's. She needs to stick with Kantai.
Also, wtf is up with Taiki and Sugimoto?? The third arc was a bit slow, I felt. And it's weird - 5 eps left and starting a new arc? I'm not sure this show was designed very organizedly. Still, beautiful art, beautiful music... and the world is amazingly detailed. The characters are so differentiated; I especially love the Empress of Kyou and Shouryuu. Enki too. still not sure about that last arc - it seems odd, like they had planned to continue the series or something. strange place to end. also, so much slash!!! shoryuu/rokuta/kouya/atsuyu.... Loveless
the first ep is slightly confusing. lots of gratuitous shonen-ai/fanservice. seems like its trying to go towards some questions of what love is, etc.
soubi is kinda pretty. but he annoys me. the whole bondage/servant/masochism thing... ugh. Yuiko was slightly less annoying, but i understand the character type. actually, though, her character really changes, and I like her now. Yayoi seems cool, Kyo too. why do they have two sets of ears? that seems redundant. maybe the next few eps will clear things up. i feel like the english throws things off a bit... makes it disjointed in terms of battles. the art is pretty tho. i guess, to a japanese person, the english would sound cool, but it's just slightly grating to me. okay, maybe I haven't seen a lot of "average" anime, so I don't have much to compare to... I don't consider this particularly amazing, but the reviews rave about it. maybe I should finish the rest. Now that I have actually finished, I stand by my "not amazing" rating. It was still a cute and fun anime tho, despite that none of the questions that it posed, from philosophical to basic plot-line, were answered. Paradise Kiss
From watching the first ep, so far so good. I read the manga a few years back, and I liked it - it was beautifully drawn, quirky, and fun. They seem to have put all of that into the show. The themes are catchy, and fit very well, and the animation is funny as well.
As i finish, i must say i enjoy this - it didn't deviate much from the manga at all, which is fine, cause it was a great story... it was drawn well, altho not with the same detail as the manga version... and i liked the way they did the ending, altho it was less satisfying that actually seeing Yukari with Tokumori... The "more-than-friendship" hinted at between Isabella and George kinda threw me a bit. Overall tho, i think this was one of the few stories that made the transition from print to film well, which I am very glad of. Downloaded Episodes: 12 |
