The lead characters are both fiffteen year old young girls. Both lead characters come from royalty and have a male childhood friend lead protecting them. The shows both have action adventure and romance. The girls are fighting to get there kingdoms but in different ways. Yona is more skilled in combat while Firiel is more of a dreamer.

Both are period shoujo animes that deal with royalty, fantasy and romance. I watched The Good Witch because I thought that it was a lot like Hakushaku, but I personally prefer the latter.

Both are set in a fantasy world that holds the presence of a mysterious object in the sky as a prominent element. Romance and adventure are also present in both.

it took me a while to realize just why this surreal magical feeling was so appealing to me. but at episode 4, it struck me. The good witch of the west features a medieval world with magic, alliances and rules much similar to maoyuu. in both series, the characters are very appealing and the animation and landscapes are done beautiful justice. and most important: the simple but true love between the 2 main characters. slowly trying to discover just how they are feeling and occasionally fighting any unwanted suiters. (I still have to see Yuusha go as far as dressing up as a girl for her sake, though.) Though  read more

Both of these series revolve around royalty. Both have strong female leads and male leads that are somewhat standoffish but love the female leads deeply. Both series contain magic of different sorts and involve lots of political intrigue. Overall, if you like one you should at least look at the other. Romance is a big part of both series.

These two shows focus on the element of queen candidates, the only difference is that The good witch of the north has more romance while Puchi Puri Yuushi is a bit more childish, and I would recommend it more to children. While The good witch of the west, in my personal opinion is better, the only downfall is that it is more rushed then PPY.

Similar in the fact that there are a bunch of women fighting to become the next queen. Queen's blade happens to tell the story with a bit more action and ecchi. Good Witch tells the story with more politics and a bit more behind the scenes motives.

Both talk about conspiracies to kill the royal family. In both there are academies where people study magic. Both are medieval fantasy, The good witch of the west is more childish while Densetsu is more mature.

Both stories have a true fairy tale like atmosphere that involves love triangles and tough situations. Pretear is a lighter, more carefree story, while Good Witch of the West is more dark and suductive , but stories cary the same essence. They are both thirteen episodes and are worth watching.

Similar feeling and settings while the plot may be different. Both animes have a princess who have lived her entire life as a commoner too and they also had some hard time to realize their situation. You will surely like them both if you like medieval fantasy.

They both contain the trials of becoming Queen; and are in the shoujo category.

Both of these series involve royals and have a dark atmosphere. They both involve a series of sexualies. If you like Gankutsuou but it was a little too dreary, then you will love Good Witch of the West.

overly complex/confusing plots, political/society affairs, essence of darkness, drama, romance, action, fighting. extremely similar feeling and plotlines

A similar thrust into a political battle and into nobility that the main characters in both of these animes experience.

Both dealt with power struggle, romance and some sort of supernatural element.

Both shows deal primarily not with action, but on character interaction and the political and social structures of the worlds they contain. Banner of the Stars is to Sci-fi as Good Witch is to fantasy.
