Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto

Star Driver has a very enthusiastic tone similar to Gurren Lagann, along with colorful mecha battles and fun characters. Star Diver, however, has a splash of fabulous like Gurren Lagann has a splash of badass. Would most definitely recommend to anyone who enjoyed Gurren Lagann, and vice versa.  

Both series throw you in some ridiculous universe, with funny animated fabulous super-mecha fights, while focusing on character development and story. While Star Driver focus more on "romance trio", the story on tengen Toppa is much more meaningfull, and further developed. While Tengen Toppa has some issues with early episodes (some even suddenly becomes really bad in terms of animation), You should stay. I can't imagine someone who liked Star Driver style not fall in love in Tengen toppa :) 

Mecha, action, fighting, and a little romance. Both of these series contain a lot of mecha action mixed with sci-fiction although Star Driver goes into the slice-of-life theme a bit. 

When it comes to Mech Battles, Star Driver & TTGL are very smiler, especially in the last episode where Star Driver trying to deliver the same amount of epicness for the ending.........over all SD & TTGL are both well made Mecha/Shounen + Romance series with amazing soundtrack and voice acting 

Both have great animation, great characters, great action, and they are both just good anime if you like mechs and storytelling combined. 

Both are produced by BONES, give off a feeling of slight mystery, have casual fanservice, and have mecha. Also, the same writer and character designer 

Simple-minded, and positive main character who goes to an Island and pilots robots without any proper training. Family background also was a key to them getting involved. Both the main characters goal is to protect the world. The two series both have a fictional animal pet, and is made by BONES. 

(This is purely opinion based and I couldn't hide my distaste for both these series that took me 3 times to complete) I Hope You Enjoy My Rant!!! :) -Both have good first episodes but then after are shitty ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) -The villains/antagonists are bland and hold no mystique to themselves (Bugbear from Captain Earth is the only exception in my opinion) -The main characters at first seems to have a lot of potential to grow into something great but for no reason at all their characters take a complete u-turn and turn into your typical ecchi protagonist but with some over the top power though I will say Takuto >> Daichi. Also the MCs always get dat poon for no reason other than them being the MC and probably to keep the viewers watching -The shows are carried by the ecchi scenes (beach, hot tub etcetera) and sample art of characters half naked -The plot was horrible and things like "Salty Dog" and "Cybodies" (to name just a few) were thrown around and made to seem important but were never explained in much detail afterwards. -They're basically monster of the week anime. From the same creators, though star driver is better produced, it has many of the same motifs, character designs and settings. 

Hot guys and gals, and weird sci-fi-supernatural-ness that the characters all go along with. 

Star Driver and Mawaru Penguindrum are opposite sides of the same Utena-inspired coin. Star Driver was written by a writer for Utena (Yoji Enokido), and directed by another Utena writer (Takuya Igarashi), while Penguindrum is directed by Utena's director (Kunihiko Ikuhara). Star Driver has a similar setting, episode structure, and school cult scenario to Utena, but is far more idealistic. Penguindrum has Utena's visual style (at least in terms of character design), similar themes, complexity, crazy plot twists, incest, and red herrings everywhere, but is far less pseudo-Freudian than Utena and Star Driver. 

There seems to be a correlation between the red and blue haired male protags, the yellow haired damsel, pink haired antagonist. There are transformation sequences, plenty of flashbacks to childhood memories, cute animals, plenty of stalker scenes... 

Both shows have their flairs in one way or another, and viewers need to always expect the weirdest and stylish of moments in both shows. Both shows are two-faced, featuring a rather laid-back high school setting contrasting with a surreal, parallel "dimension" or "universe" where certain students participate in heated duels for their chance to shine. One main difference is that Revue Starlight main focal point was the characterization and relationships among the female cast, while Star Driver actually features an antagonistic group. Both shows have musical themes to them and can actually be considered spiritual predecessors of the classic series Shoujo Kakumei Utena, an equally dual-typed show from the 1990s. Both also have similar formats consisting of "character/enemy of the week". They also both have recurring and brilliant transformation sequences. One more notable difference: Revue Starlight utilizes idol-like and magical girl-like themes, while Star Driver is prevalent with the featuring of giant mechas. read more 

Both involve a high school setting where select students do battles outside of school in an environment where the outside world cannot be harmed. Music is also prevalent in both anime. 

Both series have high school drama plots mixed with weekly extradimensional fights. The fights in both series have uniquely fluid and dance-y choreography, and the designs of the battle uniforms in Revue Starlight and Tauburn in Star Driver have very similarly distinct design cues. 

School life humour and mecha drama, powered by ~FABULOUSNESS~. Star Driver augments it with pseudo-Freudian psychology while Geass prefers its politics, but they definitely take a similar approach to the same general framework. 

The mecha and high school story lines are similar in both Code Geass and Star Driver. The character designs are both colorful and long/lanky (though the Geass characters are designed by CLAMP, and Star Driver seems to mimic the lean style). Code Geass focuses more on politics and ideals for character motivations, while Star Driver is so far about dreams and relationships. 

Star Driver may not have the "grand" story Code Geass has, but both have slick animation, bright colors, crazy costumes, mecha fights, fanservice, and school life on the side.

Not only are they both science-fantasy stories centered around young people piloting large mecha, both Star Driver and Darling in the Franxx share a similar design aesthetic. For one, the mecha piloted by the main characters in each series even look the same; forgoing the boxy Gundam-esque designs for something more sleek and slender. 

Both series involves the theme of sci-fiction, mecha, and action. There is of course comedy, drama, and romance also present in the series. Both series are also noticeable for its artwork and amazing soundtrack. Additionally, there is a colorful cast of characters of contrasting personalities that are memorable and plays various roles in the story. And speaking of the story, both series contain a mysterious atmosphere behind the scenes as each episode progresses although Aquarion Evol is more serious while Star Driver takes more of a slice-of-life approach. 

No plot, eccentric characters and some good looking mecha battles. They are pretty much identical, you want love triangles, they are all over the place.  

Star Driver is like RahXephon but FABULOUS! 

Star Driver is to RahXephon as RahXephon is to Evangelion. On the surface, they're basically the exact same show, and yet they're absolutely nothing alike at the same time. Both shows are about kind teenagers who end up being "The Chosen One" in their respective universes. They get forced into bizarre situations, wrapped up in the drama of the people around them, fall for one of their friends, are the object of unrequited love, and have to fight evil giant robots at least once per episode. However, there appears to be a deeper problem than the one they're fighting. Star Driver also contains several allusions and shout-outs to RahXephon. read more 

This is an excellent series to compare and contrast with Star Driver. After watching both series, one can see countless parallels between their characters, plot, and structure, to the point that Star Driver is often referred to as Utena done with giant robots. You will have a lot of fun pointing out all of the little shout-outs to its spiritual predecessor. 

Kill la Kill and Star Driver both possesses an explosive energy to them in various forms whether it's action, the dialogues, or its intensity of the characters themselves. The main protagonists from both series has mysterious abilities that makes them well known. At the same time, this lands them on the wrong side of the antagonists as they get into various conflicts. Additionally, both series' main male protagonist has a noticeable past. Both series' setting also takes place in a school environment. They also have stories that are not crafted out of the ordinary.

Both Macross Frontier and Star Driver are mecha shows that combine elements from a variety of different genres, including school, comedy, and romance. Each prominently feature music, though Macross to a greater extent. Both shows are also centered around a love triangle. 

Both use the same formula for a mecha anime. All the fight scenes are the same in every episode. Both kick a**.  

FABULOUS! Star Driver is just like Ouran, but with mecha fights. Especially in episodes 4 and 5, where the show shamelessly steals some of Ouran's comic devices. (Fantasy sequences with roses all over the place and snarky captions.) Both series are made by Studio BONES.
