Dragon Half

Both titles feature some good comedy by a female lead. 

Both are 2 episode OVAs from the early 90s with wacky humor and fantasy elements. The emphasis is on wacky humor and not caring about making sense. 

Both are parodies and have similar artstyles. The only difference is that Dragon Half never finished and Mahiujin Guruguru got a second run. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will decide to fully adapt Dragon Half and not go to jail before it ends. 

If you're looking for a fantasy anime that doesn't take itself too seriously, look no further. Both, "Dragon Half" and "Ozanari Dungeon: Kaze no Tou", are over the top sword and sorcery anime that will make you laugh often. Both are set in an interesting worlds, but neither were explored to its full potential.  

The main heroines of these anime are extremely comparable in terms of bravery and choice of attire since they share similar old school high fantasy design philosophy and art direction of badass female warriors in bikini armors surmounting difficult hurdles to attain their goals. 

If you like brief episodes of comedy set in a swords and sorcery fantasy realm animated in the '90s, you'd definitely take a liking to Dragon Half like I have. I'd assume that you've taken a look at the Disc Station shorts because you like Compile-era Puyo Puyo. As a person in that exact position I think I feel qualified to say that Dragon Half takes that vibe and turns the joke-per-minute frequency up by, like, ten. Two more things: Female protagonists. Dragon girls. What more could you ask for, really. 

While completely different in terms of content, the humor reaches almost identical levels of insanity. Both are short and can be finished in one sitting. 

Both take place in a RPG/fantasy world where every inhabitant, from the smallest pawn to the big king, is a complete nutcase. Slapstick humor outweights story progression in both. 

Nonsensical adventures in a fantasy world, with Dragon Half being a tad more fringe. 

Both series are fantasy adventure comedies from the same time period, and both use a mix of normal and chibi art styles for comedic emphasis. However, Rayearth is a fully-fledged, more serious story, while Dragon Half is a quick parody OVA. 

Both are short, fantasy comedy OVAs that never really got off the ground - but well worth spending an hour on if you're in the mood for something lighthearted and none too taxing on the brain. Gestalt only differs in that it's more modern animation holds up slightly better. That and the humour isn't quite so broad as Dragon Half's. 

Both comedy and both have insane main characters that are half Dragon 

Not only as funny as Cromartie but it actually has a storyline; that doesn't really matter in this kind of anime. The ending song is going to control your mind and make you fall in love of dancing Mink with its little boots. 

style of humour - Zany, madcap, etc. Fantasy setting short but sweet - only short, but twice as funny as most feature-length comedies 

Both are silly, zany, wacky, bizarre, out there, crazy, mixed-up, hilarious, roflmao funny. XD 

Lighthearted fantasy with a slapstick sense of humor and potty jokes. Even when the protagonists succeed, it's not necessarily the way they wanted, and any moment of awesomeness is undercut by laughable incompetence or goofy misunderstandings. Rune Soldier takes itself seriously at times, but Dragon Half is one big running joke, similar to Rune Soldier's more comedic episodes. 

Dragon Half is a short 2-episode OVA, while Excel Saga is a 26-episode TV series. Dragon Half mostly parodies the fantasy genre and traditional video game RPGs, while Excel Saga parodies pretty much everything over the course of 26 eps. Both were produced in the 1990s, and share similar humor elements (random jokes, slapstick, cute girls with more beauty than brains). Kotono Mitsuishi lends her voice talents to both main characters, Mink and Excel, so you know both girls are kind of dim-witted, but likable, and ENERGETIC. Also, both licenses were originally acquired by AD Vision, so you know what to expect from the English adaptation and dubbing. read more 

Silly OVAs with a ditzy main heroine and more gags than plot 

Both are totally non-sense and have bizarre, weird humor 

These hilarious parodies are very similar in their "everything AND the kitchen sink" approach to humor. In addition, all the characters are in on the joke, and seem to be having great fun even. That is probably because everyone involved with these two titles were having a blast. They also each have ultra powerful teenage girls who face bizarre opponents and situations with both fisticuffs and fancy.
