Both movies have kids who are taken to another world, meet with strange creatures, have to work, travel on a train, and more stuff besides.

There is something ideal about summer and childhood, almost as if the summer season is ideal for mysterious adventures, which may tie into the fact the warm weather lends the perfect environment for a child to imagine amazing adventures outside of the home. In contrast, the winter months lean more towards being stuck indoors. In this, I think both shows exemplify this spirit of adventure and the warm summer season, bringing in bits and pieces of summer slice of life that I think many of us will be familiar with, yet still having that mysterious element of adventure leave actual imagination and become a reality. Both of the movie is basically a kids movie with the idea of "let's throw cool shit on screen and hope it makes sense." Which in the long run is not a bad thing per se. It shows the creative ideas and concepts that the everyone working on it had and it works. Fun movies, not taken seriously, just enjoy the gorgeous eye candy.

Movies in which a bunch of unsupervised children accidentally end up going through a long, impossibly whacky journey trough space / time together. I couldn't help but watch both thinking "it would be the most horrible experience if it really happened, no way they'd survive." Actually, I disliked both. But if you like one, there's nothing stopping you from liking the other.

Nowhere near as funny as Space Dandy, but the visual style of balls-to-the-wall abstract animation and alien/spacey feel is really similar in both of these. If you like your anime super psychedelic and wacky, both of these are worth watching.

Light Sci-fi; slice of life adventure stories, where the lead or leads are kids. Wacky and zany stories. Uchuu Kazoku Carlvinson [Space Family Carlvinson]: a story of a human girl lost in space... Now discovered by a group of traveling Alien performers, they live their life as a ordinary family... to the best of their abilities. But raising a human girl isn't easy for a group of Aliens. Follow the daily life of Corona, as she goes to school with Aliens, and dadbot (* he's a robot) who always finds a way to be a goofball. Uchuu Show e Youkoso [Welcome  read more

Both are highly undervalued and adorable family movies for all ages with a superb level of detail and splendid quality in general, however their plots and environments are much different.

Both movies are a grand adventure through the celestial caverns of space and the stars. Though the plots are a bit vague, they have wonderful visuals, and are prominent with a train theme to steam through the cosmos,

Same production staff, very similar atmosphere and style. Both light-hearted, feel-good stories.

What happens when kids have their summer camp? Why, they go on these amazing adventures of course with wierd, talking creatures and they end up in the long run, saving the world by working together.

I'd honestly forgotten about these two shows being similar until I looked back at the summary of Uchuu Show e Youkoso, and while on the surface, it doesn't seem like the two series are similar outside of involving the setting of the moon and children as the main characters, there is a bit more to it. There is a definite coming of age story going on, of the children learning who they are as each of the progress shows progress through the plot, but on top of these coming of age stories involving the moon, it also involves showcasing, with Uchuu Show e Youkoso being  read more

Light hearted fun with the characters experiencing a roller coaster of emotions.

At its vaguest, both movies can be summarized as "Elementary school students go on a journey to a place not like our usual planet at all and start off having fun meeting the friendly, but not human-like, people around them. This new world starts off fun but gets serious as there is a clear crisis that the kid/kids solve." Although there is only one main character in Brave Story and several in Welcome to the Space Show, they are all very young and do end up far away from home with odd monsters/aliens you would expect to see in a movie aimed at  read more
