To and Nemure Omoi are 3D anime that take place in space and are about crew members trying to fix their failing ship and ward off invaders at the same time.

How can you not see the similarities between Nausicca and Symbiotic Planet? Both planets are surrounded by an atmosphere that is dangerous (Nausicca) or potentially dangerous (TO) to humans. The planets are both inhabited by strange creatures and societies that are at war with one another. In Nausicca its the Valley of the Wind against Torumekia and in TO its the American colonies against the European colonies. Where Miyazaki's world is set far into the future on Earth and TO is set on an alien planet is probably the only difference but I would suggest that the Future Earth depicted in Nausicca is the same  read more

Both involve deep space expeditions and things going horribly wrong, although I feel that Magnetic Rose is the superior short film. Worth looking at if you're a sci-fi fanatic, at any rate.
