Gulliver Funtouki

"Gulliver's Travels" is something that does not need an introduction, really. It's a prose satire written by Jonathan Swift in 1726 that is rightfully considered as a fine example of classic English literature. Due to its huge popularity, it became a well known novel all around the world, and received numerous adaptations of all sorts. "Gulliver Funtouki", or "Gulliver's Great Activities", is one of them, belonging to the category of an animated adaptation.

It's a really nice retelling of the original novel. While faithful in its core, it has a few changes that will be easily detected by people familiar with the source material. Same with ... subtle, yet distinct modifications to the land of Lilliput. It makes this adaptation pleasant to watch for both people familiar with the original story and those who are not. The latter group will be able to feel the atmosphere of Gulliver's landing on Lilliput island, and the former might be surprised by few elements not existing in the original novel. The loose adaptation format also is beneficial to the whole movie, given its short length.

The animation is alright. It fits the character of this short movie. Same with the art style that felt to be heavily inspired by the cult classic feature-length movie "Gulliver's Travels" from 1939, directed by Dave Fleischer. It's just less detailed and done in a monochromatic format, but still enjoyable to watch.

The audio side of "Gulliver Funtouki" is rather average. Not good, not bad. Just fine. Its music is alright and fitting all scenes it is playing on in the background, same with other sounds. There are not a lot of dialogues, but for what can be heard in the movie itself, the voice acting is okay as well.

Overall, it's a nice and short movie that will take less than 10 minutes to complete, but surely will be an entertaining way to spend this time.
