Akujiki Reijou to Kyouketsu Koushaku

Melphiera Marchalrayd, the daughter of a count, dedicates her time to researching the culinary possibilities of monster meat—a peculiar endeavor started by her late mother. By teaching the people of the Marchalrayd lands to prepare such exotic ingredients, Melphiera hopes to help stave off famine. Unfortunately, her unique tastes and intimate knowledge of monsters have led to her social isolation: few nobles interact with her willingly, disdainfully calling her the "Voracious Villainess."

When a monster attack erupts at a royal banquet—where Melphiera has been sent to find a husband—Aristide Rogier du Galbraith, the younger brother of the crown prince, leaps to her aid. Due to his terrifying skill in slaying monsters, Aristide has earned the title of "Blood-Man Duke." Charmed by Melphiera's fearlessness and intriguing culinary prowess, Aristide soon declares his intent to propose.

Together, Melphiera and Aristide, high society's most eccentric couple, strive to see beyond the cruel rumors and encourage each other's fascination with monsters and the art of preparing them.

Preliminary (5/12 eps)

I immediately loved it as soon as I started watching, although it did make me hungry.. not for monster meat but regular meat.. although if we lived in a world of monsters I would probably try one of those mouthwatering skewers. Anyway! The two mains are adorably flustered around each other and I just ate it up! I love their dynamic and I love that they are both considered to be "vile and mad" by the "normal nobles". I also love the ML's dynamic with his subordinate. I expect more funny moments with the two of them. I'm very interested in her mother's research and ... the reason behind her death.. not counting out the stepmom being involved just yet.. we'll see. And I can't wait to get to the part with the cute fluffy white monster that looks like a wolf pup because I love wolves! Foxes too so if it's like a fox I'm fine with that too. All in all it's a comical romance with delicious looking scenes and an intriguing story!

Preliminary (3/12 eps)

So, three episodes in, and I don't really know what to think of this anime.

It's about a girl/woman who likes to cook monster meat, when monster meat is a taboo, partly for cultural reasons, and partly because no one's figured out (until her) how to remove the "magic toxins". So there are good reasons for the taboo, but taboo it is nonetheless. The girl finds a man who also likes monster meat, and they grow closer.

It's a sweet anime/plot on the surface, right?

But there's a subtext here, and I can't be the only one that's noticed it.

If you replaced "monster meat" with pretty ... much any socially taboo fetish, you'd get pretty much the same anime, just with more hentai.

I know there are some people who are more conservative than I, and unlike some people, I really to try to take their feelings into account (because I'm not exactly a leftist, shall we say) - and this anime is truly about finding someone who shares your taboo proclivity and bonding over a shared taboo. And... it's not exactly subtle, either.

So, if this is your cup of tea, by all means. It's not a bad anime so far, the art is decent, and the story is even kinda sweet. But know what you're getting into with this, because it's going to smack you in the face with a barely hidden social message you may or may not like, and which you may or may not want your kids watching.

And that's my review. 6 from me so far (which is low by my standards) but I reserve the right to change it (up or down) as the anime progresses.

I went in with high hopes from having watched dungeon meshi.
The concept is nice, and the beginning is promising, but it could've been much better without the forced romance plot. It could've focused more on the monsters and ways to prepare and cook them and been much more appealing. As it is now it's a generic european mediaeval romance with elements of monster eating. You've seen it once you've seen it a thousand times. I can list off multiple anime with similar plot lines which are several times more appealing.
The romance too is bland as heck. Besides, any story which has the female lead calling ... her partner as "name-sama" and the said partner calling her "name" without any suffix, I immediately clock as deeply sexist. "A wife's duty is to appreciate and soothe her husband" shut the heck up.
Generic slop alert.
