Kowloon Generic Romance

In the distant future, individuals who adore the old way of life live in Kowloon Walled City—a slum city that serves as a refuge for those who long for the Hong Kong of the past. Realtor Reiko Kujirai, however, craves for the new and exciting places in the area. In contrast, her only coworker, Hajime Kudou, enjoys the nostalgia the city invokes and is put off by anything modern that seeps past its walls. But despite their differing views and constant bickering on the most mundane of things, the two often find themselves enjoying each other's company.

One day, a prank gone wrong leads Hajime to make an unexpected advance toward Reiko, after which he swiftly apologizes for. Baffled by his actions, Reiko starts investigating for possible explanations, only to discover a past that she has no memory of.

You ever get the feeling that something about you isn’t quite right, but you can’t tell what?

What immediately stands out is the visual direction. The animation is stunning, not in a loud or overproduced way, but in how carefully it's composed. The color palette, the line work, the lighting, it all carries a warm grain that feels like a love letter to 90s anime, yet it’s undeniably modern. Every frame feels touched by human hands. Honestly, this might be, aesthetically, the most beautiful anime series. It’s not just technically well-done, it’s visually evocative, soaked in nostalgia without ever slipping into imitation.

The show doesn't hand you ... answers. It lets you feel the weight of what isn't said. The characters, especially Kujirai, move through their routines like people chasing shadows of a life they can’t quite remember. And as the story quietly fractures, you start to question what’s real, what’s remembered, and what’s manufactured.

It’s romantic in a haunting, almost hollow way. Every interaction feels like it's been lived before. There's tension, not in action but in memory, like everyone is playing a role they didn’t agree to but somehow know by heart.

Three episodes in and I’m already invested in whatever this story is unraveling. It doesn’t just tell a mystery, it makes you feel like part of one.

If it keeps this level of storytelling and aesthetic finesse, it could end up being something really special.

I'm soooo scared about this anime. Let me clear something first and we'll go back to this after...

This anime is so good. The plot is interesting, the character design is so good, the OST is amazing, the animation is quite decent and i want to know more and more about this story.
I love the fact that this story takes place in a futuristic dystopian place and the aesthetics remind of Cowboy bebop. I really like that.

If this was everything i had to say this anime would probably be one of my favourites of the year. But... i´m so scared.

Apparently (first of ... all, the manga is very popular right know but i have not read it yet) the manga is not completed yet. They have to publish like 3-4 more volumes, even though the animation studio has said that this show will finish with the WHOLE story, even though the manga is not finished. By the way the anime will only have 13 episodes and im wondering how are they even going to try to finish it so quickly. Are they going to create a new diffrent end for the story? Have they spoken with the mangaka to animate the end? (im pretty sure they haven't).

I dont know, im so so scared because i was enjoying the show a lot.

I guess we will have to wait to discover how everything developes and how the animation studio decide to manage this situation.

This is a masterpiece.

Normally, I wouldn't expect to see a romance anime with dystopian themes. After watching tons of anime, I believe that this is one of the best ones. The plot kinda interested me a lot, although not all would love it. I've heard of the manga before but didn't bother reading it as I'm not a manga type of guy. But as I watched the anime for the first time, I was struck by the relationship of the characters as well as the ascending plotline. There are many crazy things going on over here.

The animation is fluid and makes it really appealing to ... the eye. I also like the male MC as he's basically just like Gintoki if he had an actual job lmao (even got the same seiyuu). Absolute gem after watching just the first few episodes. Recommend!
