Cross Game is the story of two high school kids who play baseball; Kitamura Ko and Tsukishima Aoba, who fight and argue continuously on an inevitable trajectory toward romance or heartbreak. Aoba loves baseball, and Ko has immense raw pitching talent, and they hate each other. Or so they say. *Everyone else* says that Aoba and Ko are exactly alike.
The biggest problem with Cross Game is that there's simply too much of it. There isn't anything seriously wrong with the writing--the characters are fine, and much of the cast has developed and changed in gradual but realistic ways by the ending.

Highschool baseball? Sure.
As the poster implies, it does have romance. Do not fret, it has a balance between the romance and sports genre. The only redundant point would be based on the happenings on the first episode, and it gets weird at times (because of how convenient it is for the plot). Be informed that the series in itself is quite melodramatic. I mean, the chance of those things happening in real life...is very low. Not that I have complaints against the series, I'm just saying my point of view. I did not get emotionally attached or hyped in most scenarios when the viewer is ... Apr 13, 2024
Spoiler-less, TL;DR, fast, simple, and easy-to-digest review:
Ball, Strike, Out 5/10 Animation? Ok (+) For 2009 release, the animation ain't that bad... just below average. The artsyle doesn't have much details and relied on simplicity. The art reminds me of Doraemon and other children-oriented animes. Characters? Ok (+) They are mid at best. Most characters have very slow character development, including the main cast. Kou is bland, Aoba is insufferable, Azuma is as bland as Kou but cooler... I guess, Senda is annoying, Akaishi is a friend you want when you are being bullied, and the rest are just NPCs. They have very slow skill development given that they have 50 ... Jul 13, 2017
"Simple is best" isn't always an accurate statement. So instead of doing the usual score / followed by explanation, I'll give you a rundown of why I liked and disliked this show.
I know I'll probably get some hate for saying this, but this show isn't as perfect as 95% (or so, or more) of the reviews would have you believe. That doesn't mean it's bad though, it's actually a very solid show. What's wrong with it then? In MY opinion, some of the characters (or rather, how they were used), the sound and art aren't up to par with a "perfect" show. I also think the Studio ... |
