Teogonia

In the harsh region known as the borderlands, humans must fight an endless battle against demi-human creatures that come at them relentlessly, intent on taking their land and their gods. A young boy named Kai, fighting to defend his village, sustains a life-threatening injury that causes him to regain memories from a past life. If you're not a guardian bearer, it's like you're playing life on hard mode... Kai's newfound knowledge gives him a new sense of the unfair "rule set" that governs the world around him. One thing is clear: For those without a god to serve as their guardian, life is a constant struggle for survival. Thus begins the epic tale of a young boy's ascent into a vast world filled with magic, bloodshed, and mystery.

I think people get way to caught up in animation quality and rate anime accordingly. I think it has caused the fanbase to kill some anime that really didn't deserve it. I'm big into worldbuilding, storytelling, and fun action. This has that.

It's not exactly my style of fantasy, but it's growing on me. Some of it is just weird and misplaced. Like the whole god stone thing. Just strange. But it's not bad, just different, takes some getting used to. The creatures are a bit bland as well. Not a huge deal but I'm not getting any relatable villain type of vibes from it. Just ... plain evil orcs and monkeys type of deal. However, there is a greater "god" driving force that may become intriguing eventually.

The storytelling on a micro level is kind of jumpy. It doesn't always flow well. On the grander scale, it's intriguing.

So far I'd say if you like a good adventure type of story, world-building and action, you should watch this. If you are an animation snob, you should probably stay away. It's not awful animation but it's not at modern standards.

BTW I hate the whole isekai conversation. Who cares at this point? It's just a jumping-off point for these stories. This one in particular has been very minor with its isekai hook if that's something that bothers you. You hardly know it's an isekai if not for some minor conversations that occur.

For ME the anime feels like it's out of the 2010s.

The art style, the way the story is told, a short flashback of the last episode at the start of a new one, a titel card of the episodes name which a narrator reads out loud, the music, how "show don't tell scenes" are executed- like as a compilation...
It somehow does't rly fit the 2020 era but I don't mean that in a bad way. It made me feel bit nostalgic how back in the days some of the cast say the episodes title with a theme exactly just for that and where they give ... you a quick summarization what happened in the last episode. The good old days...
Anyway, this anime for now is pretty decent. Character visuals are nice, the story has the "twist" that the MC is Isekaid into a more medival fantasy world but doesn't know/remember it yet- at least has memories of our timeline and figured out the use magic just by immagination. This discovery felt that it happened bit too fast but hey.
Animation is solid, nothing special but definetly watchable and the characters aren't blant and seem to have bit of personality.
Actually the areas where the story takes place so far feel rly organic. There are many scenes which are just 5-20 seconds long, which only show the "NPCs" and their lifes and interactions with each other and that makes the world much more believable than the elf village of "The beginning after the end" which is also airing right now.
(Sorry for the fans at this point, H-Studio Queen Bee could probably do better.)
I admit that for now that Teogonia doesn't have the vibes of a deep story or anything which could become really intriguing later on, but is also not an anime you can just use as a second screen experience.
A highlight for me is has scenes which actually show skirmishes and battles. Finally a "medival battle anime". I miss such anime so much since there aren't that many in comparison to other genre.
6,5/10 for me, maybe a 7/10 but that depends how the anime is going.

Despite what other reviewers write, this is not a good anime.

The idea and world are not common, they seem promising, but it gets overshadowed by its flaws.

And it has enough of them:
1. It seriously deviates from both the LN and manga.
2. It cuts lots of content and everything is toned down to almost family friendly level. The amount of gore and death is almost non-existent here compared to the original works.
3. Dialogues have turned a bit cringey.
4. Pacing does not seem to have been strong even in the original works, and here is actually worse.
5. Bad animation quality. In fact, everything seems overall low budget.
...
Feels like this was made with the purpose to promote the original works.
And not surprisingly, they are not available in official english releases.
