When I first saw Girl Who Leaped Through Time, I thought about Wisper of the Heart. The plot is compleetly different, but their romantic mood and slice-of-life topics are very close.

Both are realistic heartfelt dramas with a female lead character and beautiful animation.

Sweet stories of young teens enjoying the small moments of life. Though subtle, the little pinches of emotional scenes are cute and joyous, catering to all type of peoples.

Both just great stories about the reality of young love.

Neko no Ongaeshi is the story that the girl is writing in Mimi wo Sumaseba. This is direcly related since Baron and Muta (Renaldo Moon) are a huge part of the story. Both are good and give insight on each other, both are ghibli/Miyazaki's film, so it's a must watch.

If you liked the overall feel of Whisper of The Heart, then you will defiantly like Kiki's Delivery Service. Both are Ghibli movies(although Whisper of the Heart isn't directed by Miyazaki), about a girl on a journey to find her place in the world, be who she wants to be, and find love(more so in Whisper of the Heart). Both are in a relaxing setting, where nothing moves too fast or too slow, and both have great themes of life(growing up, being yourself, love, dreams, etc).Shizuku and Kiki are both similar in personality. Both are movies that will leave an impact on you of some sort, and  read more

Both are Studio Ghibli films and both deal with the a girl's emotions in different ways.

It's another heartwarming, coming-of-age story by Ghibli. Like Ocean Waves, It's also one of the few Ghibli films not directed by Miyazaki.

Mimi wo Sumaseba is another great Studio Ghibli film that has two characters trying to find their passion in life similar to Nakitai Watashi, however, I would say Mimi wo Sumaseba is an overall better film with great characters and classic art.

The characters in both this movie and this anime series are very similar in both looks and how they both strive for their dreams through the arts. Through out watching this movie I couldn't help but think of Nodame Cantabile. Hope this helps!

Both have innocent and naiive main characters facing the difficulties of love for the first time in their lives.

The artwork looks the same and the movies have the same feel to them. They are both "heartwarming tales"

not similar in art style or characters or story or even music the only thing that i see is similar with is that both of them are slice-of-life shows involving similar themes of self-discovery and self-challenge witch is it for me something rare to see in an anime's in this time

- Cute short hair female main character. - Peaceful town. - Both of their love interest are handsome(in my opinion, haha) and a little weird. (Don't know why when I watch Kamichu!, it immediately reminds me of Mimi wo Sumaseba)

Feel-good shows about talented people working their way out of a rut in their career/work/life/hobby with the help of people around them. Finding inspiration and motivation from the outside, and learning more about themselves in the process. One is about an early 20s professional ice-skater in Kyushu in the modern day, and one is a schoolgirl writer in late-Showa Tokyo.

Both coming-of-age slice of life anime exploring characters and the conflicts within them as they stand at the threshold of adolescence. Also the exploration of young girls as they grow towards understanding romance.

Both beautiful films (with drastically different animation styles) that focus on making big choices in life and taking control of your future. Whisper of the Heart has some light fantastical undertones while Mind Game is super surreal.

Both movies are similar, however Josee to Tora to Sakana-tachi had added a slight difference in its plot giving the movie more drama, unlike Whisper of the Heart, which is a very simple slice of life. Our two main characters in both movies have similar goals to achieve their ambitions, while keeping a stable relationship with each other. While Tiger and the Fish does have better animation, both were executed well.

Whisper Of The Heart and Ouran High School Host Club are both school revolved rom-com's, and they both surprisingly have beginnings revolving around books and/or a library. If you love Studio Ghibli or rom-com's your should watch Whisper Of The Heart and Ouran High School Host Club!

Stories with very relatable and realistic characters, focusing on their growth and their relations with other people.

Both films use a song as a narrative motif. Ride Your Wave uses an original song, "Brand New Story" by Japanese band Generations from Exile Tribe while Whisper of the Heart uses the classic John Denver song "Country Roads" (specifically Olivia Newton-John's cover). Both films follow a female protagonist who at some point during either film, realizes and works towards a goal that is personal to them. While both films are similar in that they're about young woman coming of age, they are quite different in subject matter/themes.

The passion shown by the characters in both anime makes me want to improve my hobbies. I believe that the desire to fulfill your dreams is something they have in common

Both stories are light romances with a similar interesting approach, where the romantic emotions of the couple serve as inspiration for them to pursue their life passions. In the case of Whispers of the Heart, the couple are 14 years old students and their passions are writing poetry and building violins. In After the Rain, the couple is made of a 17 years old student girl and a 45 years old worker, and their passions are running and writing literature.

Similar Story where the main character in both anime are fight for their drama, and they both promise the one they love that once their dream come true they will be together. Both are good romance anime.......

Two wonderful coming-of-age stories of adolescents finding love during summer. In Whisper of the Heart, Shizuku and Seiji grow their love by supporting each other's passion. In Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop, Cherry and Smile grow their love by helping each other overcome their insecurities.

Shows how dreams and careers conflict with ones personal love life.
report Recommended by Karura
Both are works about discovering ones path in life and pursuing it with all one has. The pacing of both of these works is very similar - starts slowly and increases with time. Both contain light romance, that doesn't overpower the main theme and adds to it instead. Both have strong willed protagonists, who dream about their own work. Both have surreal moments that merge perfectly with reality forming an interesting and fun to watch movie! It's very motivating.

Both these are centered around high school and, more specifically, the lives and dreams of girls. Whereas "Azumanga Daioh" deals with multiple characters, "Whisper of the Heart" is centered around one main. Both these animes are rather light-hearted; "Whisper of the Heart" being deeper and more realistic while "Azumanga Daioh" is clearly more of a comedy.

Both have a protagonist who desperately tries to write a book and the event of his/her life are what gives them inspiration. While In WOTH the story of the book is about a Cat, in True tears is about a Chicken and the stories have deep impact on their lives.

Both beautiful movies that show Ghibli's subtle, romantic, and evocative side.

I dont know if its a coincidence, but the world of iblard jikan makes me remember the world of Shizuku's story, in whisper of the heart.
report Recommended by peroxid
Both understated romances about young awkward dreamers
report Recommended by weirdy8
They're both realistic love stories that involve highschoolers and craftmanship with nice art. Of course Ghibli's art is different and older than Shinkai's, but the atmosphere is kind of alike.

the ups and downs of love and relationships....both amazing portrayals :D

Both are slice of life, telling the stories of two children growing up, falling in love for the first time and all the rest. 'Whisper of the Heart' focuses more on romance and deciding what direction to take life in beyond school. 'Junkers Come Here' focuses more on a young girl trying to carry on, despite not seeing her parents and them being on the verge of splitting up, also spending a lot of time advancing its lead by using her first crush. I'd say most that like 'Whisper of the Heart' will also like 'Ocean Waves' and 'Only Yesterday', too - all the titles mentioned are  read more
