Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!

Despite not understanding much about fleeting teen romance, first-year high school student Kazuhiko Nukumizu still wonders how he would react if his life were to be turned into a love story. Regardless, as a self-proclaimed "background character," Nukumizu is satisfied continuing his life as an introvert with a negligible social life. However, he suddenly finds himself too close to the spotlight when he witnesses his popular classmate Anna Yanami be rejected by her childhood friend in the middle of a family restaurant.

While Nukumizu wishes he could just forget what he saw and move on, Anna ends up forcefully confiding herself in Nukumizu, lamenting her status as a childhood friend fated to have her beloved stolen. As he becomes dragged into Anna's situation, Nukumizu soon gets caught up in the relationship drama of two more girls: Lemon Yakishio, an outgoing member of the track and field club; and Chika Komari, a shy member of the literature club. Now thrust out of his comfort zone, Nukumizu finds himself a major character in the lives of too many losing heroines.

This show is SO flawless, stainless steel got nothing on this absolutely stain-less of an anime.
This show got EVERYTHING done right, so in this review I will only cover what it mostly shines from and highlight the super good of this show.

Recommend for: *Romance, *Directing, *Production Quality, Character, Pacing, and script

FULL REVIEW:
First and most of all is the directing. I feel like I've been transported to the era where A-1 pictures peak as a studio again, with "Your lie in April". A-1 truly struck ... gold with this story, and they fully pull out all the stops to make this story the best it could be. The directing is VERY good, as I will discuss on why in details for each aspect later in this review. This have the same quality, if I may say, as the comix films anime movies, which is very captivating and stunning just to experience. [10*+/10]

Firstly is the production quality. I'm not a production quality / animation Andy that much per se, I normally doesn't care much, but HOLY this show have some absolutely STUNNING visuals, as well as some absolutely angelic OST. If I could mute other sounds, and just look at the scenery in this show, with these beautiful sound mixing, editing, and gorgeous OST, I would for hours, just like a documentary. Though I wouldn't because the character, story, and script in this show is also very good. [10/10]

The character in this show is also what make this show good. Everyone truly feels like have their own life, own story. There's BARELY any stereotyping in this show, at most mixed stereotyping with the characters, which I really like. For example, the dude that's the president of the Literature club, could be seen as your typical handsome dependable president, but he's also like weeb stuff, and don't shy about it, which holy BASED ASF. [10/10]

Next is the pacing, this go in very well with the first point I just mentioned (the production quality). We got some good old comedy, that come in snippets, have some good pause to admire the atmosphere of the circumstance its in, then cut. Which is hardly done to this level of perfection. The story is also not too fast, and not too slow, and always keep e laughing at the edge of my seat every time I watch it. [10/10]

Lastly is the romance script. This arguably is the best (on par with directing and production quality). The romance in this show is VERY real and good. By that I mean there's little to none inner dialogue, nor overly excessive sound effects or animations to signify stuff. Sure there's some comedic animation like derp face etc etc. , but most of the time they let it play out with the atmosphere, which make it feel very real. Also with this mentioned, this make the romance on a whole another level, some may thinks it will take too long to progress in the romance department with the show dont excessively and obviously show us, but I would argue otherwise.

This make the romance develops very real. There's no love at first sight here, there's no love just because he's good, love takes time to develop in this show subtly without the show just blaring at us with their inner head dialogue of "OUUUU I love him so much omg" or something like that. Thus make this very real and very interesting and a good time.

In conclusion, I think this show have no flaws. The production quality with the directing already make this show realllly good, but also with the script and pacing and character that's really real, along with the romance that's very subtle and not blaring, make this even more stand out and the best. There's some point I would be cautious about, that is how fast would the romance develop in the future, but I think it will be good from what we've seen this past 3 episode.

So after having watched 7 episodes of this show I found myself becoming bored with it and I didn´t know why until I asked myself "What does the characters in this show want?" And for the life of me I could not answer. After getting rejected by their love interest it seems that there are no motivations for the girls in the cast and the male mc never had any motivation, beyond living a peaceful high school life. This means that there is nothing to look forward to while watching this series. The cast in this show simply just is, but with none of the ... charm of a slice of life show. The novelty of the premise has worn off and just like the characters of this show I have lost all motivation.
From a technical point of view you can say it has good animation, sound, voice acting and so on, but to me it is all window dressing, there is nothing behind it. To sum it up; I found the show endearing to begin with, now I just find it boring, not bad from a technical point of view, just boring.

Do you enjoy blunt dialogue that spells out any nuance that might have been lost otherwise? Do you like being told how to feel and what to think, as you might otherwise feel unsure about your own immediate disposition? Are you conflict avoidant, and want easy resolutions? Do you wish you could be at the center of romantic tension, but also on the sidelines at the same time? Then this is the anime for you.

There's nothing all that offensive about Makeine, because there's nothing to really latch unto; at the center of every conflict is the protagonist, Kazuhiko, who's essentially an emotional clutch for a ... bunch of girls in his high school, who're all sampling some flavor of unrequited love. That's all there is to this show. So sufficed to say, for any of this to be even remotely entertaining, there has to be an element of comedy, or sociology, or philosophy to make up for the bare-bones plot. There really isn't.

Honestly, there is comedy, but the delivery and scope are very limited - sort of like office-humor, where you force out a small chuckle any time you feel like it's expected of you. But I'm not at work, and I'm not amused. Then there is the sociology, which is somewhat relevant, because similarly to SNAFU, this show also opens on a purposely awkward (I assume) monologue, only without it being either comedic nor all that edgy. The main character also calls back to this monologue throughout the season, so I suppose it must be pretty important. What is he yapping about? About how like 90 percent of high school couples break up while still in high school.

So, this is a statement on the futility of pursuing romance? That's certainly relatable, if only it felt altogether believable coming out of Kazuhiko's mouth. The advantage of going the SNAFU route is that Hachiman is consistently an asocial cretin, so it plays well with the overarching plot of him becoming a more likeable person, even if it is a little on the nose. Kazuhiko just doesn't have the grit to make anything interesting or funny out of this observation - and this is more of a general critique of modern anime-writing, but when Kazuhiko says, "What if I did find a teary-eyed heroine standing before me?", it is not only cliche, but more importantly superficial, when that is literally the premise! And when he in episode 5 says, "This isn't my style at all.", while chasing after a scorned girl, I have to wonder what he's talking about; up to this point he's been nothing but kind, helpful and respectful to everyone. What about this ISN'T your 'style'? The same goes for the rest of the cast; they simply have very little going for them.

Lemon likes running and doesn't know how to restrain herself. Anna is talentless and wading through life, unexceptional in all ways really - personality-wise as well. She's also sort of a tsundere, because we need one of those. Chika is loli-bait. Glasses-kun, or whatever his name is, could benefit from some better glasses, so that he can see more clearly that he's in bad company. And the president is more or less blending in with other similar characters I've seen, so I'm not sure what to say about her tbh; if you've ever seen the pervy senpai-girl before you know what I mean. The question is, what you do with these fundamentals?

My takeaway is that perhaps I'm just not built this genre, because I don't find the subject itself all that tantalizing; what makes a good romance is the chemistry, which forms from common interests or a facility for creative exchanges of bodily fluids, not from talking about who the fuck cares whatever she/he said, or who's feeling what, or who's hurting how. It's not that these conversations aren't being had, especially in teenage relationships; they're just boring. Once the physical attraction from girls with candy-colored hair is stripped from the equation, what is left to be excited about? To quote one of our times greatest writers: "Bitch! Ugh, you ugly as fuck!".
