Higashi no Eden

On November 22, 2010, Japan was hit by missile strikes, a terrorist act that fortunately did not harm anyone, becoming known as "Careless Monday." Quickly forgotten, society goes on about their lives as normal.

During her graduation trip to America three months later, friendly college student Saki Morimi's life is forever changed when she finds herself saved from unexpected trouble by Akira Takizawa. Takizawa is cheerful, but odd in many ways—he is stark naked and suffers from amnesia, believing himself to be a terrorist. In addition, he possesses a strange cell phone loaded with 8.2 billion yen in digital cash.

Despite Takizawa's suspicious traits, Saki quickly befriends the enigmatic young man. However, unbeknownst to her, this is the beginning of a thrilling death game involving money, cell phones, and the salvation of the world. Higashi no Eden chronicles Saki's struggle to unravel the mysteries behind her savior, while Takizawa himself battles other individuals armed with similar cell phones and returning memories which reveal his possible connection to the event from months ago.

"Eden of The East" kinda left me with mixed emotions. Not gonna lie, I don't understand my feeling after finishing this anime. The big point of the show is pretty clear – talking about shaking up the economy, the whole old gen vs. new gen drama, and how messed up the work/study/life grind can be. But, it also felt like there were a bunch of holes in the story that just didn’t get filled (yes, I'll watch other 2 movies hoping that it'll explain everything, but truth be told, I wish I wouldn't). You know, these are 2 types of show that leave you hanging:

1) ... ones that are perfectly made from the first time and just leave you with impression of wanting more
2) ones that are made in a good way, but miss a lot of important information for whatever reason. And you have to watch other parts just to get to the point. This is where "Eden of The East" belongs.

The soundtrack, though? Absolute fire. The music vibes were a mix of old-school cool and nostalgic new tunes that really set the mood. THE ENDING SONG IN THE 11TH EPISODE WAS MAJESTIC. Gotta find it on Spotify.

And the characters – they were really interesting. Seeing their perspectives and getting why they’d go to extremes, like plotting to take people out or launching missiles, was intense. It’s like, sometimes tearing down and starting fresh seems like the only way to change things up. But it's just the easier way (which I would take for sure).

So yeah, despite the plot holes dragging it down a bit, I’d still say give "Eden of The East" a watch. It’s got its moments, for sure.

Mixed Feelings

Man…

Not gonna lie, I had some realllllly high hopes for this show. The first 3-4 episodes do a pretty great job setting up an interesting mystery and building intrigue around this charming but unreliable main character. And even after those eps, it brought up some real neat ideas! How are young people reacting to a society that ignores and belittes them? What are they capable of? How many (legal and nonlegal) ways are there to “save the world”?

But after all that set up, all you end up with is characters you don’t care about, an unfulfilling endpoint to the mystery, a suspense plot ... with no exciting climax, and a romance thats dead on arrival. It’s textbook definition of disappointing.

I feel like my biggest gripe has to do with the main characters. Esp for our main heroine. I never once felt anything toward Saki because she lacks any agency in the story or the plot. Like I thought a certain theme was developing with her that would make up for her nonaction in the story, but nope! She’s just there to be Akira’s love interest. Which isn't bad per se, but the romance felt so inorganic and flat and just plain weird at points. Like she finds a naked man with no memories, a gun, and a phone that gives him whatever he wants, and only in the later eps (past ep 5) does she start getting suspicious or ask any real questions about who he is! Cmon!.

She doesn’t even seem to care much when her friends are in danger, it just all Akira all the time!

Speaking of, Akira is ok. He’s charming, but I felt like his logic and intelligence was being hindered for the sake of the “mystery” I guess?? He asks alot of questions, but he keeps making the same mistakes and the way he keeps getting tripped by by the other villians and the way these obvious clues kept going over his head made him seem way dumber than the mysterious “mastermind” the story wants him to be. Also the secret behind the reason he lost his memories and his big plan were pretty anticlimactic and nonsensical.

Music is great, random movies references were fun, character design is lovely, and so is the animation, but god everything else is just meh.

Was really looking forward to this one :(. Terror in Resonance was a better time honestly and I still gave that show a 7.

uhh what the hell is the hype for this show about? are we watching different stuff??

this is the first review i wrote and probably the last since i normally let other way better a r t i c u l a t e people express what im trying to say. breaking news: no articulate people wanted to voice their sheer despise for this garbage. so here i am :D

alright so, i n m y o p i n i o n, this is absolute trash. The stupidest show i've ever watched. I literally had to force myself to continue it ... in order to see where the "amazing masterpiece of the underrated world of anime" begins; Spoilers, it fucking didn't. The show does not follow the plot whatsoever lehfdlkehlke i forgot it was a "survival" anime like 4 episodes in. All i knew and remember is the beginning with the white house was funny, the main girl character is an annoying useless bitch, and the 1 million or whatever naked people in the man's abandoned building. Does the story go over why they were there? no. their purpose? no. why theyre even included and why theyree the fucking center of attention for th last like 4 episodes? nah. whathehell looooooool
honest to god, it couldve been a fucking masterpiece as the plot is really good, not original maybe, but good. but thats about all the good there is :D the original plot that followed through for 3 episodes.

also the fucking girl man.

like thats it.
that was the show for me.
