The fighting scenes and animation are top notch but it's the only thing carrying it. The plot is predictable, the classic a family trying to live a peaceful life despite their violent past but end up getting killed and then the man avenges his family. The characters are shallow and the viewers aren't given any actual information about them besides vague mentions. There is no moment in the show where you're on the edge of your seat curious to know what'll happen next despite the fast paced action the show is trying to achieve, instead you would already figure out how the plot will maneuver

This is my first ever review, I felt like I needed to write one as Ninja Kamui was said to be on the same par as Solo Levelling in terms of the Winter 2024 season. It is important to note I did NOT weekly watch this, I watched the first 12 episodes all at once in a binge and the last one I waited for. I think that's important, as I feel it may be harder to be as immersed and to keep in with the understanding of the show if you're weekly watching (since you're watching other shows alongside).
Overall, it's a 6/10, and had ... Mar 24, 2024
"Finally! An anime for John Wick fans!"
Is how I'd describe Ninja Kamui Ninja Kamui is a difficult one to describe or recommend however. It depends what you're interested in, do you like over the top violence or are you looking for a logical story? If you're looking for any semblance of character development or artistic vision..look elsewhere ... Apr 23, 2024
I paused at least 3 times in the first few episodes and said "I don't like that this happened just to further the plot". If you think too hard, the show falls apart but if you just put it in the background and tune in for the action scenes it was quite stunning. The music also fully in English is something I'm going to listen to far after the show is finished. This is an afternoon action slop show.
The worst part of the show is the fights have no arc and we NEVER hear what's inside the main character's head or their reaction through their ... Jun 12, 2024
man... how can a anime start with amazing fights, cool aniamtions and a pretty brutal revenge plot and then turn out to be almost too boring to finish?
It is incredible how the bad pacing and the Fcking CGI armours could turn a pretty badass anime into a unbearable experience, there isnt much to say tbh... just bad decisions i guess and its a shame cuz the hype was very high. the characters are charismatic and unique, the fighting scenes are dope with a lot of criativity the plot is about revenge at first then turns out there is a big conspiracy and from this point it ... Flashy fights with everything else below standard.
Story 5/10 The protagonist is out for revenge. That's the story. Mostly a setup for crazy action sequences. Art 8/10 The art style is reminiscent of American cartoons, which might be a turnoff for some. The main focus of the series is action and, boy, do they deliver on that front. The action is amazing animation wise, but lacks buildup leaving fights feeling meaningless. If you keep an eye out, you'll catch a fair amount of slightly funny looking shots, but regardless the animation is really promising. With a little more honing there will be nothing left to complain about. Sound 4/10 Environmental sounds ... Apr 15, 2024
The first 4 episodes - what an adrenaline rush! Thrilling fighting scenes, shaky camera, and splashes of blood everywhere. But that's about it. With all the violence stripped away, the main plot of Ninja Kamui was just a clichéd revenge story weaved in some bigger conspiracies.
It's easy to see which audience this anime is target for. From theme to characters, everything screams deja vu. Is it Ninja Slayer? Or maybe John Wick? It doesn’t matter - any of the characters showing up could be traced to a number of prototypes. The biggest shortcoming of this anime is that it still harbored the ambition to tell a ... May 11, 2024
Ninja Kamui initially starts off as a typical runaway ninja story, yet it managed to captivate me despite its clichés. Particularly, the performance of my favorite voice actor, Kenjirou Tsuda, adds an enjoyable layer to the experience. The richness of the story and characters was also something I appreciated.
However, when it comes to the turning point, like many others have complained, the anime shifts to the mecha genre halfway through, which also bothered me. I never quite got accustomed to this genre and found myself watching the remaining battle scenes with a sense of boredom. This transition somewhat contradicted the atmosphere initially established and left ... May 29, 2024
It's a mystery. No, no the show itself, but how can first few episodes be so captivating and well done, only the rest of the show to disappoint. It started very strong, with mysterious story, promising characters, good pacing and damn right awesome choreography only for it to turn into mecha CGI ninja robots and revenge.
When artists bother, animation and drawing style is great. Rich backgrounds, animated perspective shifts, flying cameras and what not. But it seems at one point all of the animators collectively gave up. About half of the episodes in it's all about CGI, shortcuts, repeated shots and the like. Characters are ... Mar 2, 2024
Ninja Kamui so far has been an interesting ride. I'll open this by saying the first episode was abysmal, I could not for the life of me understand why it was rated so high and its score seemed to confirm the idea that as long as the fight scenes are flashy and loud then a show does not need any more substance than that to do well. It was predictable to the point that it was insulting to view. It also didn't help that they condensed what ostensibly should have been the entire first episode into a 3 minute montage not allowing the viewer to

This had a really strong start but unfortunately it swayed away from what I originally thought this series would be.
When I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes I was super excited thinking that I finally ended up finding a Ninja themed anime series that takes place in a modern time. Unfortunately the series ends up with a big focus on Mecha armor which is used heavily by both antagonists and protagonists. I suppose some folks might not be bothered by this but once the sci-fi armor action began it really started feeling like I was watching action scenes from a completely different series. I ... What a huge waste this anime was. Waste of quality and time.
Ninja Kamui had an overwhelming start to his story. Very good and exciting, but it soon began to demonstrate certain narrative "vices", starting with the more Americanized story. Unfortunately here it didn't work at all and soon the anime started to look more like a trashy North American film. The script is also something. I believe that anyone with 20 hours of action films watched could reproduce something similar. However, until its first half, even its vices, Ninja Kamui still showed itself to be an anime that succeeded in the art of entertaining, but ... Mar 20, 2024
Ninja Kamui is an anime that showcases stunning animation, drawing viewers in with its visually captivating sequences. However, beneath the surface lies a narrative that struggles to engage and characters that fail to evoke empathy or interest.
The story follows the typical revenge trope, with our protagonist, Joe, seeking vengeance for the loss of his loved ones. Yet, despite the tragic circumstances, the storytelling falls flat, lacking depth and failing to create meaningful connections with the audience. The characters, including Joe, feel like mere shells, lacking the development needed to make them relatable or compelling. Viewers are left struggling to sympathize with their struggles or understand their ... Mar 17, 2024
The story is pretty straightforward, with quite a few cliches, and most of the twists ( so far) are quite predictable. The characters don't have a lot of depth, but the action and soundtrack elevate the overall experience, thus I have found myself entertained enough to finish all released episodes so far.
It's a bit of a shame that the story, setting, and ninja lore with its blend of sci-fi aren't expanded on more ( so far). This story HAD the potential to be much better, despite its cliches. E.g. a dangerous man's family gets brutally murdered and he embarks on a journey of blood and ... May 6, 2024
Honestly when I first watched this series I thought it was visually very good, the story was also not boring but there were some such as the mc's background was not really explained (concluded that all ninjas have a dark past) even though I really wanted to get to know the characters more clearly but never mind.
From the first episode to the middle I really enjoyed it, it's worth watching and people like to talk about it on social media, especially the fighting part is very epic plus the element of revenge because our mc is not purely a hero. But at the end of the ... May 26, 2024
Ninja Kamui is probably about what you'd expect from a revenge theme anime. The first 3 or 4 episodes are probably the best in the entire series in terms of animation, fight scenes and the story is quite captivating. But after the introduction of mechs, the show really does go a downhill, especially the chereography in the fights scenes in later episodes. (It's all really 3D/ CGI fights).
When I first heard Sunghoo Park was directing this (Director of Jujutsu Kaisen S1), a lot of people had high expectation for Ninja Kamui, including myself, but sadly, it did not live up to the hype that was ... May 5, 2024
Ninja Kamui is a series about a former, well, ninja assassin, who left his previous organization to live a happy life with his wife and kid but swears revenge on them after his family is killed by them. So basically, it stands in a middle point between Ninja Slayer and John Wick, using very similar plot elements as the latter but without the weird mix of attempt at drama, over the top comedy and shitpost crappily animated action from the former.
It was also mixing it up with FBI agents, buddy cops developments and Mission Impossible-like technology, but since it was clearly made with a ... May 7, 2024
Ninja Kamui is a very basic story of a Ninja in a modern-day setting with very well-choreographed fights. Sounds good, right? Well it was.. for a couple of episodes.
Starting off with the praise, the first 2, 3, even 4 episodes drew me in very well. It captivated my interest extremely throughout the releasing season. Then, like a lot of animes I watch now, I put it off. Binging it (mostly) from episodes 5-10, one thing became very apparent to me: the spark that Ninja Kamui started with did not turn into a flame. While I will sing praise for the obvious stuff like the well-choreographed ... May 6, 2024
I fell in love with this anime, like most, in the first few episodes. I’m a sucker for Ninja stuff, especially if it’s a cool/interesting spin on it, as well as good fighting choreo (my favorites are Sword of the Stranger and The Outcast, even tho most of the latter is sludge, it has great fights).
The story wasn’t anything crazy, but I also don’t think you have to break the mold every time you write. It had a very “John Wick” style of writing to me, and while it’s fairly basic, I personally love that. 3-4 episodes in however, they introduced CGI into ... Apr 15, 2024
The story is pretty straightforward forward and the characters don't have as much depth, drama, and plot tbh. I feel like the first few episodes impressed me and I wanted to watch more of it. But it is a shame that that ninja lore with the justu and all that have mostly gone away. In favor of those armor things that were cool in the beginning when I first saw them but now I just kind of hate them because we aren't seeing real hand-to-hand combat anymore and that is just disappointing. Also, the CG is really bad and looks bad.
