Isekai Suicide Squad

The Joker and his best girl, Harley Quinn, are tearing through the streets of Gotham with sacks full of cash and the law in hot pursuit. Unfortunately for them, though the jester manages to escape, the night ends with Harley being captured by a mysterious, katana-wielding woman.

Meanwhile, Amanda Waller, the head of the government security organization A.R.G.U.S., has commandeered a team of supervillains for a ruthless mission into another world. After losing contact with the first suicide squad sent through the portal, Amanda sends Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, King Shark, and Harley as replacements. However, shortly after entering the portal, their helicopter crashes in the middle of a battle between horse-mounted troops and vicious orcs.

With all of the accompanying A.R.G.U.S. members dead on impact, the villains break free of their shackles and rampage through the army of orcs, unwittingly aiding the human soldiers—only to be rewarded with imprisonment. Now bound by magic-infused shackles, Harley and company must hurry back to the portal they came from, or else the bombs A.R.G.U.S. implanted in their necks will detonate.

Do you like Harley Quinn? Maybe the Joker series in general? This is the show for you!

You should not watch the show for plot or world boulding, but for the characters. The show feels true to the vibe of suicide squad, and you watch them go on stupid adventures together as themselves. Kind of feels like suicide squad dnd.

Have you ever wondered how a bunch of DC villains deal with goblins or kabolds? Wonder no more! Suicide Squad Isekai will answer that question and more.

Highlights:
* The music is a banger. Love that they didn't go for the classic go lucky isekai openings. Instead ... it is a musical number by Tomoyasu Hotei that is very in tune with the tone of the anime. Can't forget the ending song by our boy Mori Calliope. Although that one is more goofy, which also fits well with the anime.

* Also the soundtrack is also awesome! Made by Kenichiro Suehiro who also made the soundtrack for RE:Zero and Goblin Slayer! They made it both funky and jazzy which is so lovely to hear for a series about villains! But in the serious moments, then the orchestra came in and muhwa!

Mixed Feelings

Suicide Squad is pretty alright for the most of the anime but it a little PG and that doesn't make sense considering who they are
and it's not like anime never did diabolical stuff but that's a minor problem for me .
All of the characters are mostly okay with the exception of original characters that the anime introduced .
I do not like any of those characters and it's hard to care when they don't do anything until the very final moments of the show .
I'm familiar with all the characters from DC that are in this anime as most DC fans would be .

Harley Quinn ... is cute and fun but you don't feel that she's a psycho at all
Deadshot is just there and doesn't really do a whole lot other than bicker with characters and shoot enemies
King Shark was nice and pretty much the mascot
Peacemaker is perhaps the one that's closest to normal Peacemaker which is sick and badass
Clayface tho is the most different and easily the best and most entertaining aspect of this anime
Clayface is a brilliant character wasted in this mediocre show .
Suicide Squad Isekai embraces all the generic isekai tropes and it's really fun
some other characters like Enchantress and Rick Flag are pretty fun
It's interesting to see well established and famous DC characters just exist in an anime
and specifically an anime that embraces all of the common tropes but outside of that ....
not much else to offer .

This isn't for DC fans because all of the characters are very little like their definitive versions .
This ain't for anime fans because it's just not good enough of an anime to warrant a watch .
Suicide Squad is for the people who like both such as me .

As someone who really enjoyed the original Suicide Squad movie, I was really excited for this anime, though I had some reservations about the decision to make it an isekai Anime. And that worry turned out to be justified. The whole thing ended up being painfully average, with a story that felt forced and eventually spiraled into an incoherent mess by the end.

I feel like there was so much potential here but it was all wasted. The opening is an uninspiring mashup of music, characters from the fantasy world have shallow backstories and are painfully stereotypical, the world-building is practically nonexistent, and the plot is ... dull, forced, and confusing. I feel like the biggest problem in all of this is that they opted to make the story into an isekai. The anime market is so over saturated with isekais these days which makes it so hard to stand out in the genre. And the fantasy world in " Isekai Suicide Squad " is quite frankly even below average, which causes the entire project to suffer. There's plot twists which are there to keep the story interesting but you can mostly smell them miles away. The animation can get choppy and goofy at times which just further adds to the negatives, though admittedly some fights in the later episodes were animated well and ended up being enjoyable.

When it comes to the positives, I always try to be fair to shows and give it the benefit of the doubt. The show did a good job in advertising itself and I had seen a lot of posts on social media and trailers long before it even started airing. And let's be honest here, capitalizing on the trend of western franchises getting anime adaptations was a clever strategy. "Suicide Squad" is a name many people are familar with, which makes it easy to get people interested in your anime. The DC villains were drawn really well and especially Harley Quinn looked phenomenal. In fact, Harley Quinn was one of the few highlights of this adaptation. Her character design, voice acting, and overall portrayal all came together so well.

In the end, this turned out to be a huge disappointment, though my high expectations likely played a big part in how let down I felt. There's just too many issues that prevent you from truly enjoying "Isekai Suicide Squad" and I honestly also cannot recommend this to anyone curious whether they should watch it or not. It was average, though you could also make a case for it being even worse and I would fully agree. It's sad, but this one truly missed the mark.
