Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 3rd Season

One year after the events at the Sanctuary, Subaru Natsuki trains hard to better face future challenges. The peaceful days come to an end when Emilia receives an invitation to a meeting in the Watergate City of Priestella from none other than Anastasia Hoshin, one of her rivals in the royal selection. Considering the meeting's significance and the potential dangers Emilia could face, Subaru and his friends accompany her.

However, as Subaru reconnects with old associates and companions in Priestella, new formidable foes emerge. Driven by fanatical motivations and engaging in ruthless methods to achieve their ambitions, the new enemy targets Emilia and threaten the very existence of the city. Rallying his allies, Subaru must give his all once more to stop their nefarious goals from becoming a concrete reality.

Well just like every other season, this season of Rezero is a banger. Although I can tell we had a shift in the tone of the series for this season. But it doesn't take anyone too long to realise that it's because of the fact that subaru has grown up. He is still very willing ready to sacrifice himself for the sake of others but he understands that rewind should be the last option and he should only do it for people that he truly wishes are worth dying for.

Other detail that make this season light hearted is presence of 2 individuals. So be ready ... for spoiler and theories.

1) Reinhardt (the spelling might actually be Reinhard tho)- As we know he is a walking cheat code. That's why the "one who manipulates the gospels" sent regulus here. His purpose was to keep Reinhardt busy so others can make the deal with 10 ministers of the city and retrieve the bones of the "witch of pride". What would they need it for? Well in season 1 petelgeuse said that the seat of pride is empty. That means no one has the authority of pride right now. That's why they were trying to see if the authority went back to dead witch after the last archbishop of pride " Stride Vollachia" died. After regulus got defeated the time immediately teld them to flee ( ngl I laughed when Anastasia called out capella for being a butler for the book).
2) Aldebaran - This is the most suspecious guy in all 3 seasons. We know he is from japan cause when subaru made the remark about how saving the people in need comes to him as naturally as jumping in front of a street light to save a kid. There are no street lights in lugunica or any other kingdom of Rezero. While others didn't fully grasp or give any reaction, only Al understood the meaning. He is definitely japanese or at least from Earth who knows culture of japan.
Subaru's name means the pleadies constellation which has to meanings " to unite" and "the seven sisters constellation". While Aldebaran is the name of the following star of pleadies constellation. Al also said lines like " u better rrun before I die" and "I know I won't be able to kill you even in 100 lives and I am already approaching 50 at this point".
Given the connection of stars in Rezero. Al might have the second half of subaru's power aka the ability to willfully set his own checkpoints that he can manipulate at will. He also made sure in episode 5 that the city gets flooded in time before subaru fells off the dragon. He started this plan at least 30 minutes before they even started fighting. He was definitely aware pf when and how subaru needs to die and when him not dying is needed.

I guess I wrote too much. But I will say if u are reading this before starting season 3 then I am sorry for spoiling so much ( although I did put the warning)

Anyways 10/10 season. The vibe is different cause the real MVP this season is Al. And we are watching him just like how others watch subaru. This is like the perfect timeline that everyone remembers. Even the viewers aren't allowed to see the true that might have happened in this season cause Al didn't allow us.

Mixed Feelings

The third season of Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- had developed all the pieces necessary to create an impactfully large-scale conflict but was ultimately disappointing in execution. This arc was not bad in quality but rather consisted of both excellent and poor moments. The action animation improved significantly, the narrative groundwork for success was already laid previously, and the pacing and movie-length first episode were on point. However, it is difficult to be invested in a more action-oriented arc with underwhelmingly designed main antagonists, various weird character archetypes, odd humor, and unnecessarily disturbing scenes without purpose. An exciting premise diminished by distasteful content.

This season was boring, that's the first thing that comes to mind. Let's try to unpack why that is. The first couple of episodes were things per usual for the show: Subaru gets into a life or death situation with an unclear way forward, struggling to cope with dying horrifical death multiple times. That's all fine and dandy but the show turns into a pure action anime after that and a bad one at that. It's not that action anime are bad or anything, it's just that the story is so lackluster and the animation is so average that it cannot carry the show like ... how it could in other action anime.

Season 2 was bloated with lore dumps and exposition, and this season does the opposite so we don't really learn anything new and interesting about the world and characters of Re Zero. There are tiny bits of information thrown here and there, but it's mostly just one battle after another. Well who are we battling in this season? Four different Sin Archbishops, four and no less. They are all uninteresting which is a shame. You've got one who's insane, another one who's insane, the third one is insane and the fourth one is misogynistic and insane. I don't understand why the villains are so bland when the show already proved it can make good antagonists (Echidna, Rosewaal). Even Petelguse who was also just insane was a better villain because the things he does and the way the show slowly presents him makes him unforgettable and shocking.

Nothing shocking happens in this season, There is no psychological horror here, no mystery, no shocking scenes, no character progression, nothing. All of the great appeals of Re Zero are nowhere to be found. Now I don't need every season to be a copy paste of the previous one but if you're gonna do a completely different season you have to at least make it good, and this one just ain't it.

I'm going to give this show another chance in season 4, but if season 4 is gonna be like this I'm gonna have to drop it. If you haven't enjoyed Re Zero season 1 and 2 much, then you definitely have nothing to look for in season 3.
