Toaru Ossan no VRMMO Katsudouki

Wowww this is Actually one of hidden gem never watchd anime so enjoy before until the last episode and can't wait to see the next story.

Talking about the story Toaru Ossan VRMMO was perfectly fine but really disappointed with the animation they didn't put a lot effort maybe due to budget or something but whatever the reason Toaru Ossan VRMMO really really deserves high quality animations so this can be top anime also compared with the big names of anime this year, the releases of this series can competed fairly.

Theme: VRMMORPG 30's salaryman give me good vibes 10/10

Story background: i love kind of this base ... of story background so 10/10

Plot: the plot definitely very smooth 10/10

Story: everything was packed and worked in very very good way 10/10

Characters: the rangers party was really interesting one 8/10

Animation: very very disappointed the studio absolutely need to threat this series seriously 3/10

Opening Ending music: under minimum bar 3/10

Music background and etc: need more added so people can enjoy a lot more when watch it 4/10

This series certainly is something, but not in a good sense, some very good elements, mixed in with some very bad elements, sprinkled with a whole lot of mediocrity averages out to, you might have guessed, incredibly mediocre. That in itself would not be a bad thing, as the series is mostly a slice of life and a bit of action, with some interesting fights, but I got the feeling the anime tries too hard to be something it 1. Never should have been and 2. Never took the necessary steps to become one. It takes itself too seriously at the wrong places, and not ... seriously enough in the necessary places. For example, we have soke scenes with the developers dsicussing events that happened because of our MC, and they seem like some evil shadow organization, while literally nothing happens because of them, but we got some clues on their characters and maybe some intrigue against(?) the MC

(this plot also goes nowhere in the anime, dont know about the manga, but it is also incredibly stupid, or I should say they are incredibly stupid).




So to rate in a systematic manner:
1. Story: Mediocre at best, its mostly a slice of life, so it is understandable that not much is happening sometimes, especially with the whole premise being that a middle aged salaryman playing to relax. But the anime only has two modes, either batshit insane thinga happen in quick succession (with zero plot supporting it, or anything really, it just happens out of thin air but completely changes the game the anime takes place in, like why?) or nothing happens other than some character interactions and some mild skill developing for whole episodes. Again, I dont mind nothing, I like SOL, I also dont mind if batshit insane things happen, but at least have the story actually support and either foreshadow, but at least pave the way for these thinga to happen, not just out of thin air. Also the story goes literally nowhere, but meh, I dont even care about that at this point.

2. Art and music: I liked the music, it was not good, but it wasnt bad either, I think they used too little music, but I think it is a matter of taste. The art itself is nothinf out of the ordinary, lot of still shots, with (luckily very little) cgi scenes, especially when there is some people who are not main characters just strolling trough the scenes (I personally noticed 3 such scenes, so not much), luckily the fights are animated normally. So mediocre again.

3. Worldbuilding: Kinda ties ino the story, but we got very little info on the world itself, I wrote it up to the slight mystery of the characters and the watchers not knowing fully if its really a game or a game that goes to another real world situation (at the last episodes we get massive clues about this, but I dont want to spoil, also it is not that big of a mystery, I think it was more lazy writing than masterful suspense), but I cant just chalk it up to that, especially when adventuring should be the focus of the story. The anime tries several times to build something but it fails under its own (feeble) weight at that.

4. Characters:
Now this is where the anime really bleeds out, if there characters would be great, or at least good, the other things I mentioned would have been forgotten (at least by me), but no.
Lets start with our MC, who is an obnoxious little shit, having both the mental capacity to make Einstein fear the dark and the capacity of a somewhat retarded toddler trying and failing miserably to open a cookie jar. Examples for the first would be the skill and crafting system in the game, I liked those, and the MC actually got in those mostly without plot armor, it was more of a case of nobody tried it that hard or that way, rather than just straight up asspull "he is suddenly better at shit skills than other people ever will be, because I said so". Every character interaction (beside some minor NPC characters) and literally everything that happened in relation to the plot are examples of the latter. Dont even get me started on that we know nothing of his real life, other than some random tidbits (like he has or had depression because of the lack of exercise, and he has allegedly years of VR/MMO game experience). He is very rude to actually pretty good characters, like the Fairy queen, and the dragon girl. The comedy had some moments at the beginning (I want to be left alone, be unassuming = edgy ass bro) + (Fairy Queen loves me, but I only use her gifts and her assistance, but when she tries to comically spend time with me (usually.romantic) I slap her/bondage her/yell at her and run away. His interactions with the rest of the characters are not better, just more rare. We also never really get an established dynamic between the characters, but considering that the side characters have less screentime tham TenTen from Naruto and usually either disappear completely after their episode or just disappear for episodes completely, Im not suprised. They are also very 1 dimensional characters, which is very funny, when you arrive at the end you will see that the Fairy Queen is the best charavters in this shitshow, but she is not even a living being.

So, all in all, if you want a slice of.life show with little progression, shit story, an ending that is more of a cliffhanger tham the 90's Stallone movie and shitty characters, I can recommend this. If you are turned off by either of those elements, or the combination of those, I would not recommend.
I still gave it a 5, because the slice of life elements and the skill/crafting/progression system are actually pretty nicely done and made it enjoyable all in all, you just have to turn your brain off.

“A Playthrough of a Certain Dude's VRMMO Life” is what happens when You want to write an isekai but the higher ups force You to make it a video game one.

It may be the fact that I’ve seen a lot of garbage anime recently, but I don’t think this one is a travesty. The quality of writing varies from episode to episode but it does get better, especially when it comes to characters playing off each other.
It’s not bad but it’s not good either. It’s a very middle of the road plot with absolute garbage world logic and little to no story.

Before we start I ... would like to explain something. I will be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same page…
I use the definitions for “plot” and “story” as Lisa Cron describes them:
“What happens in the story is the PLOT, the surface events.”
“STORY is about how the things that happen affect someone in pursuit of a difficult goal, and how that person changes internally as a result”.

The most infuriating thing in this show is the whole “game” shtick. There is a lot, A LOT of bullshit in this department.

How the fuck does the smell and taste work in this VR system? If You eat something in game does it trick Your brain into not feeling hungry? If yes then can You use it to starve IRL? If not… What's the point? Well… I don’t really see the point even if You can use it to stop feeling hungry… maybe some sort of effed up diet? We saw that Earth was moving his hands during character creation so it’s not like the deep dive system in SAO wich means it doesn’t affect Your brain and You don’t have a mask of any kind so how the fuck did people smelled the food he was making let alone taste it?.

The Fairy Queen - what the hell is her deal? It’s an NPC that acts like a person. Demands food, attention and even forces Earth into pseudo marriage. She also complains about handing out crystals to new players and writing emails. Yes. Writing emails. In a game. That has procedurally generated dungeons, pop up windows in the sky and whole menu system. Why the fuck is she even doing that? It’s a game, the devs write it once and set up an auto send. Why the hell would she write them? You could make an argument that since she’s an AI her responses and reactions are the result of learning and analysing player data but why make it for only one player? What’s the point? What happens when Earth won’t log in for a long time or quits the game all together? Will she run amok? Have depression? It’s just so dumb and plays into the whole, overused “chosen one” cliche. At least it’s not as bad as “Bofuri” in that regard. Small victories I guess.

Another thing is with crafting. After a night (in game) of crafting Earth declared that his hands hurt. Why? It is obvious You don’t swing Your hands to play this game. So why the hell would Your muscles be sore? The only thing I can think of is that they are getting way into roleplaying.

Other, smaller bullshit could be chucked up to Earth having certain items or skills but it is still bullshit because it favours one player and locks other players out of those profits. Bad game design at its finest.

All that sums up to a very lazy world that had little to know thought put into it. It could work as a fantasy world, but not a game world. There are things that make sense in games but not real life. I doubt even if people had the tech to create such realistic VR game worlds the developers would implement half of the bs this show serves as “game world”.

It’s pretty obvious this shouldn't be a game world show (I am not sure if this could be callen any kind of isekai) if the writer put those systems in. It should be a standard fantasy or isekai. At least I wouldn't have so many questions about why this game has so many redundant systems. It’s like Bethesda and Ubisoft had a baby. All that’s missing are microtransactions. We don’t even see Earth out of the game so what’s the point?

Apart from the worldbuilding being absolute crap it’s actually a solid slice of life fantasy show. Nothing groundbreaking but it can be rather enjoyable. My gripe is with the fact that the hero is OP and at some point the show layers on the “chosen one” cliche really thick. Despite being OP it’s a nice change to actually see him fail. That said, we don't see that often. I think 2 times in the whole show but it is still nice that the show admits it’s own hero can fail. If we would see him fail more often and in more critical situations I think that would be a benefit both for the plot (everyone loves a revenge story) and the main character's appeal. I would even stomach the fact that the mofo killed a boss designed to be fought with a party if at the first try he would get his ass handed to him on a silver platter and go through the whole planning and preparation phase after. As it stands he’s a bland character that the world bends over backwards for.

That said, the writing does get better (not by much I will take small blessings in this case) as the show progresses. It manages to balance its comedy with drama and adventure aspects pretty well. There are even scenes in the later episodes when characters play off each other well which provides a nice dose of comedy.
The downside is that it suffers from the same thing most slice of life shows suffer from - lack of focus and story. Because there is no main goal or overarching plot the writers can go wild with their shenanigans. It’s not necessarily a bad thing as long as there is a story there. Unfortunately there is no story. Earth doesn’t change in any meaningful ways, doesn’t help others to change, does not grow or learn anything in any meaningful way and is more often than not a very reactive character.
Surprisingly the later episodes have some really good ideas and in the hands of a more mature writer those ideas alone could carry the whole season or even two. Especially the missing person quest or the visit to the fairie territory. Both have layers to them that are mostly ignored and resolved in a very lazy way that shows the writers didn’t think things through.

All in all this is a very safe show with a plot that is mismatched to the genre. There is no real benefit or reason for this to be a game. It would work much better as a fantasy of isekai. The fact that it’s a game doesn’t bring anything to the table and the type of plots it shows us are ill suited for it anyway. I think You can still enjoy it, just don’t expect much.
