Tengoku Daimakyou

Both have mysterious, ominous, dystopian/post-apocalyptic sci-fi vibes + great world building! 

Both of these shows are shown through the eyes of children in a utopian society, but things aren't always as they seem. The shows in general share a lot of common themes throughout and lead you on a journey to figure out what is really going on. 

The world has changed drastically, and humanity is not exactly to be trusted... 

The two shows feature a similar premise - children and teenagers/young adults as characters, post-apocalyptic setting, fantasy elements (powers & other creatures/lifeforms). Both feature characters uncovering mysteries and going on journeys, and ask lots of questions, ranging from philosophical and ethical to hypothetical. Although Tengoku Daimakyou is not tagged with horror (at the time of this rec), the type of fear it instils is very similar to that of Shinsekai yori, in that they both leave you feeling very uneasy and on edge, along with moments of panic and the shock of realisation. Overall, they have a very similar vibe and someone who enjoys one of these shows will most likely enjoy the other. read more 

Both deal with the mystery of why a majority of humanity has disappeared. As well as with children that are being manipulated or sheltered from the truth while encouraging sexual and romantic relationships between them to not make them think about the “outside”. Both also has supernatural elements of both cast abilities as well as the now “new world”  

The reasoning behind this recommendation is as follows The setting takes place in a post apocalyptic world that has regressed significantly in living standards yet concepts like advanced sci fi type technology seem to exist, powers and genetic engineering seem to exist as well. Similar to what we seen in Shinsekai Yori, heavenly delusion also has a safety net village free of danger with strict rules, constant surveillance and manipulative education. The approach to exploring teenage sexuality and naturalistic dialogue is also very similar, there is limited fanservice type sexualization and the concepts explored seem to be more focused on adding exposition to the setting than for being lewd for the sake of it. The same oppressing atmosphere and a lurking sense of danger Shinsekai Yori is known for is present in Heavenly Delusion, with scenes that generate tension and make the audience hold their breath hoping for a good outcome. Group of kids given false sense of security without knowing what its like outside kids have powers that elders want to manipulate Both take place in dystopian worlds  

Both are unsettling coming-of-age drama stories set in fantasy worlds, when dark secrets about the world get progressively revealed with each episode. 

Greedy adults take kids to an installation; they start to develop their bonds and find their sexuality there; they leave and find that the world is not as it seemed to be in the safe place. Now they need to protect their lives.  

In a very deconstructed society, everything is new in the future and people changed the way to live their lives. Both animes are about teenagers exploring and discovering themselves and the world. A lot of mystery with a dark feel 

both shows are kinda weird in humanity acting, watching shinsekai yori felt like watching a documentary and am getting same vibes from tengoku daimakyou. am not a manga reader but i can tell even now that tengoku daimakyou is mysterious and gives a lots of hints in solving secrets of its own world as in shinsekai yori. 

Dystopian world where children are raised in a creepy school and have powers accompanying them. Technically both take place in a post apocalyptic setting. Top notch world building. 

Weird but interesting projects that have an elaborate world, interesting plot and are on of the best post-apocalyptics anime ever made 

Both have this mysterious aura where it makes you think for yourself instead of spelling it out for you. And both are messed up in their own ways  

A duo immersed in an extremely dangerous world. They go through obstacles of all kinds and end up in many situations where they risk a slow and painful death. Interesting secondary characters dealing with a method to achieve a safer world 

This anime gave me the same sense of mystery, exploration, intrigue and mystery as Made in Abyss did. The addition of mysterious creatures/monsters that are a threat is also similar. Characters are also well thought out and have gripping stories that makes them and the world feel alive. I would say that you should watch Made in Abyss if you liked the entire mood and vibe of Tengoku Daimakyou. 

Interesting world building, creatures and mysteries. 

if your like the world building this is for you, theres a plot twist, dark grim story,ec, you gonna love it 

Both are one of the most creepiest and darkest post-apocalyptic projects in anime. Both have such an intriguing plot, brutal & merciless world building and a very in-depth character development  

One of the best post-apocalyptic titles that have ever been released. Stunning visuals, intriguing plot, great world-building & inexpressible atmosphere. Must-have show 

- Astonishing visuals - Intriguing plot - Down-to-earth setting 

Both anime are about children held in a caring environment that turns out to be not what it seems. Both contain graphic images of monsters present and are both thrillers worth watching 

Kids trapped in a facility where they are being used for an ulterior motive without their knowledge and then characters on the outside who are in some form or fashion trying to save/locate them. 

Both animes give you this eerie feeling of maybe paradise isn't as blissful as it may seem. Can't go into much more without spoilers! 

Both start from the walls, both have a lot of suspense and interesting moments. Also, have a dozen creepy & gore moments 

Both these shows have a similar Premise, although both these animes have different approaches. "I like the idea of Civilization is at the hands of Man-Eating Monsters", an both these shows tackle that aspect very well and in a diverse way as well. If you do plan to watch my recommended anime, Please DON'T WATCH SEASON 2. (unless it has got a reboot). Instead, pick up the Manga after where Season 1 ends i.e., if you plan to watch my recommendation. 

Both anime series share a common premise: a post-dystopian Japan featuring a covert high-functioning society with the primary goal of cultivating and educating children within an isolated "institution" where they are kept unaware of the outside world. In both narratives, the youngsters are intentionally kept ignorant about romantic relationships, yet they naturally navigate and discover them. If you enjoyed "Darling in the FranXX" due to its exploration of mystery and ethical complexities within the institutional setting, as well as the concept of "special" and powerful children confronting challenges, then "Tengoku Daimakyo" promises to be an engaging watch for you. Similar to its counterpart, "Tengoku Daimakyo" offers lighthearted and genuinely humorous moments along with elements of romance. Both shows strike a balance, avoiding an overload of action scenes. While "Darling in the FranXX" seamlessly integrated action with slice-of-life elements, "Tengoku Daimakyo" follows suit, creating an appealing blend of various thematic elements. read more 

Apocaplitcal with kids. The Kids are being cared for somewhere that they believe to be their world, They don't know the romantic love by others and discover it by themselves. A lot of mystery and strange creatures. 

- Dystopian future in which human society has collapsed. - Children raised in a special walled utopia for mysterious purposes. - Fights against monsters and the mystery of where they came from. - Partial focus on the romantic relationships of teenagers raised without parental figures. 

Both animes have that nostalgic feeling, they are based on apocalyptic worlds where the MCs try their best to survive and they make memories together throughout the journey. 

Both thakes place in a post apocalyptic tokyo in the current era where the MC was granted access to the outside world from the disaster. venture around various sights bunch up with action and fun. They are also similar in length with the same demographic and both have an absolutely stunning art style that would amaze you! Hack... Even in the later episodes, they both venture outside to the rural areas  

If you love anime set in dystopian world, then this anime is definitely made for you. It has first and foremost topnotch animation with one of the best openings I have ever seen in an anime show. The story is so well built with twists and turn with wholesome and emotional scenes. You will thank me later after watching this :) 

Both shows have layers upon layers of mystery that pull the viewer in. Additionally, there are a few details on one show that will make you remind of the other. 

Similar in demon fighting, but set in a more interesting space, and more focus on the amazing story rather than the fight scenes. But they are still well animated. 

The characters are looking for a specific person and in order to find them they need to go on a journey to fight against monsters to stay alive.
