What do you get when you give a creepy high school student a hypnosis gun? Not a lot. HypnoLove is a psychological hentai that starts off as fairly mediocre and finishes off as fairly good. While watching it I had the urge to stop it in the first 10 minutes, but am glad I stuck it out to the end.

Shinta is a high school student that gives everyone around him the creeps. His skin is pale and grey, he has shabby hair, and when he smiles he gives off the impression that he is a crocodile smiling at fresh meat. ... I can't say too much for his imagination, given a gun that can hypnotize anyone should open a world of possibilities, but sadly his view is narrow and extremely predictable.

The story moves from one of a male dominating the women around him to some sort of love story as we move into the second episode. While his relationship slowly builds with Midori, Shinta continues on with his dominance routine as a way to kill time. It finally culminates in a tragic break that is somewhat predictable, but still makes for a good story.

As for the quality of the animation itself, I give it a 6 out of 10. The actual artwork and character design is fairly well done, but it suffers from too many panned still shots and an overall lack of detail. As with most modern hentai titles, the voice acting and sound are pretty well done… as long as you don't listen to the English version. I do not know what it is, but it is so rare that the English voice cast fits with the character design. In conclusion, I say give this one a watch and give it to the end before making up your mind about it.
