Hyouken no Majutsushi ga Sekai wo Suberu

Honestly the plot is “generic” but in my opinion it’s not about the plot it’s about how interesting the main character is and how he interacts with people and deals with them. People says it’s generic it’s sucks blah blah blah but if ur here for the plot then it might not be your cup of tea, the interaction of each character is what’s get me going. It’s a harem anime (pre sure it is) but the MC don’t act like a total child that get nervous and act like a moron when some girl is next to them. The MC actually act like a ... normal person and casually talk to his “harem” that’s one of the things that is noteworthy. But overall the anime so far has been interesting it’s similar to The Irregular at Magic High School.

I did not expect to actually finish this Anime, but I did. The story is pretty "average" which is kind of sad because I actually liked the protagonist. He is not like the average MC, he is a gentlemen. He isnt simping over every single female person that he meets or is too scared to even talk to a female character. He is the opposite.


Plot:
The protagonist attends a Magic academy because he wants to learn more about Humans, make friends etc. Something cruel happened in his past and because of that his only "friends" are a group of soldiers.
It is a pretty basic ... plot to be hones. The other characters get introduced pretty fast and from then on they get to know eachother more etc. But, like I said, the MC is a gentlemen, thats why half of his friends are women. You probably know where this is going...
Of course, there is also a "Bad organisation" and the other usual stuff.


Animation:
The Animation was okay. There were some episodes with really good and some with really bad animation.

Characters:
The characters were average. The MC is the only one that was a bit different, but all in all, really basic.

Im still not sure If I should give this Anime a 6 or a 5. It was pretty funny and I kinda liked it but its still pretty average.

I actually enjoyed this one and it surprised me in that.

At first I was ready to dismiss this as being incredibly generic, while having an art style that is 20 years out of date.

Even though this is not an isekai, at first glance this looks like the standard plot where the most powerful hero//mage/demon king, reincarnates and then goes to a school where no one knows who they truly are, they show off how OP they are, create a harem, while being the blandest MC that doesn't have any characterisation possible. - That's how these things normally go.

This slowly subverted my expectations.
The MC isn't reincarnated, ... instead he was trained at a young age and served in the military, certain events happened, and he mysteriously disappeared as far as everyone knows, a couple of years later he is enrolled at a school as an 'ordinary' and instantly looked down upon because he isn't a noble.
- Sounds a lot like Irregular at Magic High, but even there this is different.

The first few episodes show us that the MC did not get OP due to innate talent/skill, or because he's the reincarnation of this incredibly powerful person, or that he had some divine blessing from the gods.
He became OP through training, and then (apart from the physical skills) lost it all, as a side note, the way he looks like a normal scrawny MC, until he takes his top off to reveal his 'bulk' is both amusing, as well as yet another way that this feels like this should have been an anime from 20 years ago.

The MC is also given a backstory, and rather than just have past events teased and make you think "this would be a better anime if we had more of that world and saw more of those characters" it is a satisfying blend of the two parts, the past and present, and we get not just a good array of characters, but a decent amount of time and focus spent on them.
The MC is really well developed with being given an actual personality, and with the side characters, several of them are also given focus and developed too and given actual character growth
I should also say that one nice tough they did was that the MC ends up gathering up his harem, not by having a total lack of personality, but because he was told to be charming to all women, and compliments and charms them at all times, and thus ends up accidentally seducing everyone he meets.

And then we get to the comedy.
In many ways this reminded me of Full Metal Panic for how random its comedy moments felt, the references, the crazy scenes plays absolutely straight / seriously with the MC acting like its the most normal thing ever, he was channelling his inner Souske.
It made me laugh several times, so I have to give it its props

But this is not a perfect series, nor will I pretend it is.

The animation style feels dated, the animation itself isn't that great as there are definite dips in quality.
The story is lacklustre, it's pretty much relegated to being a background thing and so what we have is a series of events

As much as I like this, I struggle to recoomend it, because of the art syle, and because of the type of anime it is
This series definitely isn't for everyone, if you don't like the genre, you won't like this,
Also, it's easy to see this as being nothing but generic, as it follows many of the story beats that you see in a lot of these.
But it takes the generic story, and it does it well, it gets all the elements right, and that's the difference.

Alright, I'll get straight to the point.

This anime has a storyline that can be considered not too bad. Although some of the early episodes may make you feel strange, but as the story progresses, I feel that it's quite interesting and still worth watching. Then, this anime also has cool opening and ending songs that are enjoyable to listen to.

However, there is one thing that makes me unable to recommend this anime to be watched, which is the quality of its animation. It's not that I don't appreciate it, but I think that the animation quality for this anime is quite poor. It makes the ... anime fail to represent its setting and plot properly. This anime should have epic fight scenes because of the abilities of its characters. However, due to the animation quality, the feeling when watching the fight scenes becomes less impactful for me as a viewer, and it makes me bored.

So, in conclusion, this anime has a storyline that is actually just average. However, the poor animation quality fails to make the storyline more interesting and instead makes this anime quite boring to watch.

In a world ruled by Sorcery, a concept of Magic that uses logarithmic and precise mental calculations to create powerful spells, there are 7 titled sorcerers that stand above all – The Iceblade Sorcerer being one of them. This series follows Ray White, a commoner boy regarded as ‘ordinary’ who attends a Magic Academy for aristocrat children. Ray’s time at the Academy starts out rough since the aristocrat children treat him unfairly for being a commoner but this doesn’t stop Ray from indulging in the academy’s bustling lifestyle as he joins many clubs and faculties. Will Ray’s new lifestyle in the Magic Academy be ... peaceful or will his past come back to haunt him?

Story & Character: 5/10
In terms of story, The Iceblade Sorcerer is a very simple and generic Magic Academy series where the main character breaks rules to enter in a gatekept cohort to experience a ‘new’ lifestyle outside of their previous, more unforgiving one. Ray becomes the black sheep by entering in this Magic Academy for aristocrats but slowly with his friendly demeanour and unyielding work ethic he eventually adapts to a comfortable lifestyle. The events that occur don’t stray from the typical 2015 Magic school series especially with its stereotypical subplot with the generic bad guy hinted behind the scenes which in this series is a faction known for their human experimentation called the Eugenics. As you can expect, there isn’t much exploration beyond the basic level of comprehension regarding the story events; The Iceblade Sorcerer instead takes one of high school life with its clubs and festivals.

Characters in this series are very basic in terms of their depth, background and potential growth. They feel too stereotypical with many female characters crowding around the main character because they have nothing better to do. Ray’s encounters with other characters apart from the males feel superficial and akin to a speed-run dating simulator which is clear to see as he wanders around the Academy in between major arcs. The antagonists also lacked importance since they’re brought in as a side thought later in the series because the story is so focused on the mystery behind Ray White’s background – it makes it worse since he’s constantly put in situations that reveal his identity partly and he’s always reluctant to face the facts. Overall, the character was probably the better half of this series despite its simplicity.

Art & Sound: 6/10
The character design was alright, animation could have been better especially when Ray White’s power is activated. Beyond that the art for the body builders was on point and a part that portrayed accuracy. The overexaggerated meme faces in response to absurdity were also a nice touch to the series despite its focus not being primarily comedy.

Sound design was okay, the sound effects and background music weren’t memorable enough to acknowledge individually. The quality of VA, sound effects and background were of good quality for it being a more modern series it’s become a new standard expectation. Overall, art and sound were average definitely enjoyable parts but no iconic masterpieces out of audio or visuals.

Overall & Enjoyment: 5/10
What I enjoyed about this series was how Ray White skips all the small talk and embarrassment that typical series in the genre include without error. This makes the viewing experience much more pleasing since there’s no panicking or shy personality traits especially when it comes to dialogue with females. Ray White’s character is a chad for sure in terms of ideal MC. The story felt way too similar to the early 2010s magic school genre series, and I wonder why they’ve decided to adapt a series with the same storyline. Overall, it was a decent turn your brain off OPMC Magic Academy story with enjoyable MC; The whey protein dialogue was a bonus.

Short Review & Recommendation, Hyouken no Majutusushi ga Sekai wo Suberu.

To begin with, the animation is definitely substandard, so it is up to you to decide whether you are able to accept it or not depending on other factors.

Furthermore, it is possible, that you may enjoy the later episodes more than the earlier ones, which was true in my case. I started to enjoy it after around half the episodes, because some suggested, that the later episodes would be superior the earlier episodes. Though, I wouldn't expect a masterpiece, and it is still a rather generic fantasy harem anime.

One thing I've realized, is that many ... people enjoy this anime more, because the characters aren't overreacting to compromising situations, though it is somewhat explained to why he acts that way. This may be a plus for some, or a minus for others, that enjoy this guilty pleasure.

It is also important to note, that the main character is overpowered, so this may be a turn-off for some, however, like many other animes in this genre, it still creates suspense such as using the main character by restricting the main character's powers, by increasing the strength of the opponents or by taking advantage of the uncertainty of strength of the opponents. Though, the suspense clearly wasn't sufficient, as more effective measures weren't taken into account.

The most enjoyable part of the anime, is probably the characters, as it seems like the writer didn't focus on the plot as much, but rather focused on the characters. Character development and empathy towards the characters are both established in the story. This was greatly assisted by the use of funny introductions into episodes or other "goofy" parts in the anime, that would resemble those of the slice of life comedy genre.

In conclusion, I recommend this anime to those who enjoy the fantasy harem genre, are willing to sit through a few episodes, which could be deemed boring by some and wouldn't mind a substandard animation. What made me enjoy the show more in the later episodes, was that I had established empathy with those characters, which I think the show was able to pull off relatively well, even if only with a few. However, even if it does accomplish that, it is still a rather generic fantasy anime, so make sure you are prepared for that if you do decide to give it a try.

If you take a good look at the poster image you'll get the summary of the show - a low budget generic magical academy fantasy harem show with a protagonist that is way too strong (and maybe a bit edgy?) but hides that face from others. This alone is enough to inform that you shouldn't have any expectation other than lower than average generic fantasy, yet it is an endearing mess with quite some heart, that most will overlook. A dark donkey. Not a horse, a donkey.

This show is based on the first publication and this can is quite visible from the adaptation. While nothing ... in the story, setting or characters is innovative enough to make it its own thing, the narrative and character dynamics are quite competent. It feels as if the author tried its best to avoid technical mistakes than have any ambition with this first work, only doing a bit more than the baseline requires. Even more impressive as none of the ideas and cliches used have been poorly executed. There's even a fight where the cast has to coordinate to defeat an enemy, and for once, it isn't the main character doing the planning, instructing the party nor taking most of the work.

At the same time we don't get that much out of the supporting cast, which may be an issue exclusive to the adaptation. They do have fun interactions and exist outside the protagonist boundaries though. Bonus points for having a male support and girls that aren't all head over heels (hopefully it won't degenerate into that). More commendable than that is the fact that background characters don't treat the protagonist as the core of the show universe, in fact it takes quite some time for them to form an opinion on him. It's a decent package overall.

Regarding the adaptation itself, its weaknesses are quite evident. Art and animation are around the industry standard, it has some bad CG VFX. There were two particular occurrences, regarding the "romance", that felt like big stumbles. At the first episode we get a long sequence to introduce the supporting cast individually, and in every interaction the protagonist and the support will do a full introduction and tell each other to use their given names instead of family names. None of the characters has a japanese name and the academy is clearly western inspired, which makes this detail pointless. The second episode does things worse as we two fillers in the shape of date intermissions, breaking the whole flow of the episode. I do have to admit that a certain thing happens at the first date that makes the segment a bit interesting, yet it's no enough. In fact, it is possible that the way "romance" has been handled may ruin the little the show has going on, but only time can tell.

So, what does this show has to offer if it's a bit over average at best? It's the heart put on it.

I may be wrong but none of the variables in the production could make this show a great watch. This isn't a masterpiece from a popular author being adapted by established prestige studio, in fact it wouldn't be unfair to say that this is a debut adaptation of a debut light novel. Most people wouldn't care if this was made with as little effort as possible, yet if you look closely you'll see a lot of small details that could be cut out completely, that act as sneak peaks for what is to come in a near future. It's not like they are important building to bother with.

To be a bit more specific (yet vague), a certain concept is mentioned at the first episode, and this starts this soft thread that connects the protagonist to the introduction of a supporting character, that acts as a bond between them, then introduces us to a new character dynamic with a third and comes back as an element in a conflict, over the spam of 4 episodes. Most adaptations wouldn't think twice before cutting all of this to focus more time into making the protagonist more appealing to the audience or to promote the bachelorettes further. This opens a precedent for anything to be a potential soft thread through its runtime, and a significant part of them have been explored by now in some degree. The same can be said of side characters quirks that have no apparent role aside giving them some characterization. Kinda feels like a nice puzzle being casually assembled.

There no deny that the show isn't technically good and it certainly won't blow up anyone's expectations. However there is some charm to see a staff doing its best to make something that has everything to be unremarkable into the best show it can be, against all odds.

It can be quite enjoyable watch if appreciate approach it in that way. Again, we're talking about a donkey, not a horse.

I keep it short and simple, as I am sick.
Don`t really understand the hate for the anime. It is mediocre and just a bit bland, but there is not much to make people hate it.
The story and mc are decent (but nothing innovative), but the execution is lacking. Relationships develop fast, so it feels rushed, but somehow the makers still put a bit too many common cliches inside. For a non-harem anime it feels a bit too "haremy", but at least there is some logic behind it.
It is a simple and somewhat entertaining anime that you can watch with your brain turned off.

It got my attention as the plot is one of my fav but the storyline got as fast as it could have possibly be they didn't cover the back story properly what are his powers actually and many more aspects of the story can't understand why the anime's this season was in such a hurry to end the story as fast as possible they don't recognise that they are losing potential anime's by doing this
The character design was kinda mixed some were good but some were left as it is music wasn't something we call attractive, animation was okay okay not too bad

Conclusion is that i got mixed recommendation on this one as it is watchable anime but uh will find it boring and want to fast forward many times

Great potential, but there's no excuse for the wasted time in earlier episodes for that rushed of an ending. If you made a mess in your pants after Game of Throne edged you for years, then let them punch you straight in the balls on the final episode, and can't wait to have that feeling again, by all means start this show.

If my sarcasm wasn't apparent, then I'll plainly say it as well. I was teased into thinking that this show might actually go somewhere.

The first episode felt like the intro to a visual novel game where you're forced to meet all the characters and ... they have the "first impression" moment where they establish the characters cheaply and you can tell there won't be much if any character development.

The best parts of the show were the opening, the visuals, the magic system being awesome and understandable, and an overpowered character that was forcefully limited by his wellbeing and not the strength of their enemies.

This one, after watching the first episode I believed it had the potential to be a great, funny, fantasy anime. And honestly, maybe my mistake was to go see in the manga what was next. The manga is simply amazing and the art style is very good and different. Which combined with a great story telling and rich world is a manga which I will always recommended. All this made the second episode a huge disappoint since not only didn't follow the manga, but made the hole story more weird and childish. It was a huge loss and bad adaptation. I conclude by inviting you ... to watch the first episode, and if you like this kind of story( not the graphics), I would suggested that you give the manga a try.

Chivalry of a Failed Light Novel Adaptation.

I want to like The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World. At heart, it is, of course, a juvenile, chunibyou, male power fantasy anime adaptation of a *sigh* light novel, but unlike its contemporaries airing this winter (excluding Eminence of Shadow), it is somewhat charming.

I like Ray White as a protagonist. Not only is he shredded as hell he is also unabashedly kind to everyone he meets no matter their social status or if they’re being a complete asshole to his face. This is a juvenile chunibyou, male power fantasy light novel anime so he will eventually ... be surrounded by a harem of women, devoid of any real personality except for the characteristics their form of “dere” falls under, but Ray is charming, kind and likeable enough for us to understand why the girls would be attracted to him, both emotionally and physically… Because like I said, he’s fucking shredded.
Speaking of shredded, I also like his friend and roommate Evi Armstrong who has arms and is also strong. He’s funny and charismatic, and I felt like he held a strong position as part of the cast unlike most of the “best male friend” type characters in harem anime.

So why am I giving this anime such a mediocre score? Well, I don’t know if you’ve laid your eyeballs on episode one, but if you have you’ll note that the art and animation is fucking garbage. This was very clearly a rush job on the part of studio Cloud Hearts and it shows in the way characters stay off model more than they stay on, how to combat scenes have no impact on them and will sometimes just focus straight up in character's faces to avoid animating sword fights and the CGI animation for magic spells looks so bad I’m almost tempted to compare it with Ex-Arm.
I also think the world-building and magic systems are pretty light novel basic. Nothing here really shakes up the formula or is all that worth seeing? That goes for the clownishly evil villains too.

Like I said at the beginning, I want to like this anime. All of its good points remind me of one of my favourite 6-almost 7/10 trashy guilty pleasures I will sometimes rewatch, Chivalry of a Failed Knight. It’s not quite up there with it in terms of story and character development as of episode 5, but if the art and animation were watchable I think this could’ve been an easy 6/10. But it’s not. It’s atrocious. 5 is the best I can do.
