Synopsis

Futuristic post-war Japan is divided into four military regions, each led by conflicting nations trying to gain complete control over the country. While the Boundary War—fought with the help of humanoid mecha weapons called AMAIM—has long been over, the rivalry between these factions is still ongoing, and, as a result, the Japanese are heavily oppressed.

Amou Shiiba, a 16-year-old orphan boy who is secretly rebuilding an abandoned AMAIM named Kenbu, stumbles upon Gai, an autonomous AI in need of battery power. By choosing to help one another, Amou and Gai find themselves at the center of a disaster, and Amou is labeled a terrorist and cast out of society. Even so, Amou refuses to remain idle in the face of injustice, and he embarks on a long journey rife with struggle and companionship. His aim transitions from leading a peaceful life to liberating the Japanese people.

I've watched up to episode 5 of this show, and have to say I'm disappointed in it. It feels like the Sunrise wanted to make "Gundam Lite" (mainly Iron Blood Orphans) and falls pretty short in most aspects. If you've seen Code Geass or Gundam IBO this anime isn't gonna show you anything new or even execute it better. It comes off very uninspired and flat.

Story: After about 3 episodes you can guess the story fairly accurately since most mecha shows follow the same story beats. Unfortunately this show has yet to show something that sets it apart from the rest. The story also has read more

Hidden Gem of this Season!

This is an attempt by Bandai-Sunrise to create a robot anime that is NOT GUNDAM.

While Gundam is a popular and long-running franchise, it is daunting and hard for kids and new fans to get into.

Kyoukai Senki (literally: “Border Wars”) is an attempt to create a more accessible robot franchise.

Story:
So far, pretty good. While not as flashy as Gundam, the story is simple but good. It is a typical “on the run fugitive protagonist anime”, with the robot-piloting protagonist running away from numerous occupational forces that have conquered and colonized Japan. Some episodes are heart-warming such as episode 2. If read more

Characters are so unattractive. Plot is weird too. At first , I am happy to see mecha anime at current time but the more episodes i watch , the character and plot are becoming more and more pathetic. Disappointed! The characters are so simple and holding unrealistic ideal. The situation is like the legend mecha series but the way the plot is going and the turning point are too obvious. The art is not good too. The character development is just like the old anime and I can't feel the attraction and feeling from it. May b cuz I hope too much after seeing read more

Probably one of the most boring mecha and political dramas I've seen. The fact that it literally has no music doesn't help. It's basically Code Geass crossed with one of the dullest Gundam slice-of-life teenager who also happens to be a mecha pilot shows. It's like the creators were given a directive: Your viewers are all mental ward patients who don't deal well with excitement, sudden changes, or loud noises, so keep that ECG reading as smooth as possible if you can. The characters have literally no personality, no real urgency, zero backstory, no objectives, and just seem to be floating around in limbo. The read more
