Itazuraguma no Gloomy

So I don't write reviews because I don't know how to do it, but it hurts me how badly Itazuraguma no Gloomy is being reviewed. So, I'm taking its defense.

Personally, I think that the reviews on this "anime" are too harsh and misleading.
Of course, this is not a masterpiece or anything similar to that, but I don't believe it deserves such bad reviews.
I mean, what do you really expect from a 1 minute episode?
Plot? Of course not, it's too short to have a decent plot.
Sound? I'll emphasize this: 1 MINUTE!!
You can see Itazuraguma no Gloomy as something small like an ad. It's ... funny, short and it's mostly there to sell Gloomy's merchandise.

Most people who don't like this, they talk a lot about the violent tendencies of this series, but they don't really know the premises of Gloomy.
Gloomy was created as the antithesis of the fluffy characters that we see in Disney and other similar companies. The creator of Gloomy believes that animals are wild by nature, and would not mix well with humans the way they are portrayed to in many cartoons and movies. So it's normal to Gloomy be violent towards Pity and be all bloody, since it's part of its character. So, I feel like it's a little unfair to criticize this series for this, the violence between Gloomy (wild animal) and Pity (human) is the main point in the whole Gloomy's merchandise.

So... uhh.. I know it's not the cup of tea for everyone, but I don't think 1 minute will really waste your time, so yeah, I recommend this to people who don't expect something serious or just want a small break.

I mean...yeah. It's pretty much what it says on the tin. Pity takes care of Gloomy and tries to treat him like a pet, Gloomy mauls Pity because he's a full-grown bear and bears can't be treated like household pets. There is a point to it though--Pity's design makes him appear young and naive, and yet no parent is ever seen. You catch yourself wondering how the hell he's allowed to keep a bear--where are the people who would keep that from happening? And yet that's a real situation being conveyed. Sometimes our support systems fall through, we aren't protected by the people who are ... "supposed to" shelter us, and we bring home bears. They'll even tell us they're bears--Gloomy's call, that he typically makes before an attack, is literally the word "bear". But even when we're told something's motivations, even when its nature is so clear, projection is powerful. We bring dangerous things into our lives because of nostalgia (Gloomy looks almost identical to a stuffed bear Pity had growing up that he feels guilty for losing) or loneliness (we only ever see Pity and Gloomy in the house). And with a name like Pity, I can imagine our relentlessly saccharine, relentlessly passive protagonist could get mauled for an entire One-Piece length series before he finally learns to not let bears in the house (though that would get incredibly boring).

This series has the potential to get old fast, but I know nothing about how long it's supposed to run for, and the episodes are only 1 minute long--the creators know that for such a simple plotline any longer would be tedious. The artstyle is smartly made cutesy enough to ensure that the constant maulings aren't unwatchable. With the booming popularity of sanrio characters it's nice to see some darker simplified designs too. So far I'm under the impression that this show knows what it is and isn't trying to be anything else (much like how a real bear cannot try to be a child's teddy bear....), and that in itself has value.

Fun fact: I checked out this series because I just had to do bear safety awareness training for a summer job, and one thing we learned is that there's 2 situations where you are supposed to fight back against a bear--when it's mauling you to kill, or if it's trying to get into where you live. Pity has terrible bear safety awareness.

This is another one of those animes that tries to apply nosense to get the audience to like it, but fails in its own factor of existence. Of the same nature and essence as Popee The Performer, Itazuraguma no Gloomy was a show that caused instant strangeness, bothered me for being a sick show, and ended the same way it ended: without causing any kind of sympathy with us.

It's not as if we demand anything from Gloomy, but surely the show could cause some positive engagement. That is not the case here. It's just a show that inserts a bear that Assaults a person ... constantly. It is the pure trash of animes, there is nothing profitable. An anime that few have seen and will surely be remembered little.

And I celebrate. I'm glad things like Gloomy no longer cause interest, as it is the most terrible representation of what Japanese shows can offer.

The only thing funny about this show is that it was made in the first place.

The show is entirely one note. Watch the first episode, and you've seen them all.
After that, the show has nothing to offer.
"what were they THINKING" is the only thing that will get you through more than 5 episodes, which is where I must leave you, dear reader.

The show has the appeal of those rag-doll games where you "beat up your boss" by throwing the doll around.
It's fine for a single gag. About 2-3 minutes' worth of time.
After that, it's simply uninteresting.

Five minutes of my life I'll never get back. 0/10 ... if I could.

This "anime" is really a waste of your time.

"What do you expect with a minute per episode?" A 12 minute story, cut into 12 episodes. YouTube is full of heart tugging, passionate, emotional 10 minute animations. What we got was 12, 1 minute episodes that amount to drivel.

There is no character growth, relationship growth, or any change. In one of the early episodes Pity tries to feed Gloomy, it would have been nice to see this work effectively later in the show as if their bond was growing. The child should be dead every episode from blood loss. Boring, predictable, every episode is ... identical. There is absolutely no reason for this to exist.

this review is bit short because this anime and message is really simple

I like this anime its simple, short, cute looking, and entertaining. if you aren't already a fan of gloomy bear you might not understand why it is violent or gets weird at times, The creator of this created gloomy to appear cute but act violent because he believes wild animals should not be with humans.

the Art is super cute and i enjoy the thick outlines with cute simple faces. i enjoy the characters even if this show is simple.

if you are a fan of gloomy or like short anime then i would say ... give this a go!

Wait what story it's just some I don't know maybe A TEN YEAR OLD?!!!! being beaten for no reason by a psychotic bear because WE ALL THINK THAT'S FUNNY RIGHT??!!!

I think this is a mix of CGI with 2D animation I'm not really sure but the animation style is very simplistic you can actually mistake this for a kid's show (btw it's definitely not)

Well their is no sound to be honest. Other from that I think the voice actor for Tanjiro played the boy so yeah of course it was acceptable.

I don't know why the boy is still with this bear either he is too stupid or he loves the feeling of being beaten and blood also JUST CALL ANIMAL CONTROL!!

this is my first time writing a review and my English is not very good but

To me this anime is giving off a pop team epic and popee the performer vibe?
Like it's trying to be funny but it's not.


it was very short so I forgotten it the first half when I was at episode 12 and forgot most of it, it's very short and forgettable and I don't think a lot of people will remember things like this if it's the same thing over its the bear getting upset and then doing something involving blood or hurting the kid they could've been more creative with ... things like that and then they tried to add a story to it in the middle of the episodes? I would prefer the start of the backstory at the first episode so you understand the characters situation first like most anime do they usually add the story in the first episodes or after a "sad" scene

I know people have different tastes in anime but this one is not for me if you want to watch it go ahead if you're just starting and looking to watch a more wide variety watch this I guess

Also I think the anime would be more memorable if it had an opening song thing like most anime do maybe like a metal song that would fit for it, it would make it more interesting in my opinion

Don't watch this anime with expectations of excellence. If you're even somewhat familiar with the character of Gloomy the Bear, you'll already know the premise of this show.

I think the show does fine in presenting itself in short one minute episodes, it's good for a quick fun watch. I feel that they did a great job in making the art and overall feel of the gloomy franchise transfer into animation.

I think there could have been changes to make it more enjoyable, I think they could have got more creative with the overall concept. Or even more variety in the music and sounds in the ... show

Not a lot to say, feels like 2007 nostalgia in a way. If you like the scenecore or webcore aesthetic watch it I guess. Episodes are only a minute long and there isn’t an overarching plot so there’s nothing that can really be spoiled or talked about in much depth.

Um, the pomegranate gag is cute I guess and it's funny haha when the guy gets mauled by pet bear bc bear angy haha. Don't get pet bears kids! They'll take your face off!/lh

You really can't say anything ... deeper about this lol.

With it's simple style, cartoon violence, and animal cruelty/themes of wild animals being wild animals, it's very reminiscent of shows like Looney tunes, pink panther, tom and jerry, ect.
People commonly give this harsh reviews because it's not meaningful, and that is true because it isn't. Most of the shows meaning is found outside of the show.
Without the context of the creator himself, this show really just amounts to a minute or maybe a half of senseless violence.
This show is essentially fanservice to people who already know the character from the creator himself talking about Gloomy, the art he produces, what he's supposed to ... represent, esc.
This show is about Gloomy, a bear that his owner, ironically named Pity, is trying to rehabilitate. Pity sees Gloomy as nothing more then a cuddly stuffed bear.
He seeks the comfort in Gloomy that he had in a stuffed bear he used to have, that was thrown away. Upon finding him in a street and with no real knowledge how to raise a bear, because with what Pity has, you realistically cannot,
Pity just sees all violent outburst as just a little quirk. He believes that Gloomy, deep down, loves him, and excuses the grievous bodily harm inflicted upon him.

Mori Chack believes humans are incompatible by nature and that animals are wild, by nature. Thus, no matter what Pity does for the bear, at the end of the day (or multiple times a day) his daily life is impeded by this bear because he is blinded by it's cuteness and wont let it go.
He even jokes about it!

This show is just fanservice. Slightly longer, animated versions of the things Mori Chack already creates.
