Both male MC's shunned out of the family due to a circumstance and goes to hate the world. Female MC's in both are introduced into their lives and 'heals' them. Settings of both are not placed in a usual modern day looking setting as well. One of the biggest differences would be that Shinigami's female MC appeals with a sexy and seducing charm whereas Taishou's female MC appeals with a cute and innocent charm.

The similarities are endless - A girl comes (from seemingly nothingness) into the life of our protagonist as his wife, they learn to live together as a couple, and discover their feelings for each other (especially in Taishou Otome Otogibanashi).

Historical arranged marriages in difficult circumstances

Both of this MC have someone who takes care of them, and give unconditional love, sure it worth watching.

Both shows exhibit this same gentle tone of a mix of silly comedic moments but a lot of heart tugging dramatic moments. Both shows feature a main girl with a sunny personality who is able to pull characters from their lowest points in their emotions just by showing she cares. Both shows feature characters from troubled families with an over bearing cold family head, in Fruits Basket you have the Soma family lead by Akito and in Taisho Otome you have Shima family lead by their cold distant father.

Both have the same warm shoujo feeling and have a historical element to it with kimonos and being in the countryside. Also both female leads are really optimistic high energy people who go out of their way to make sure to care for the stoney male lead. From what I've seen of Taishou Otome initally, it seems like Yuzu will accidentally build a (platonic?) harem from Tamahiko's broken family whereas Nanami also makes even her worst enemies into people who really love and respect her. Considering that Nanami and Yuzu's optimistic and nosey(i.e. they tend to butt into everyone's business someway or another) characteristics are  read more

Romantic comedies set in Taisho era Japan where the couple is already bound by an arranged marriage at the beginning of the show. There is a wealth-gap between the couple, with the male being from a more aristocratic family.

Guy goes into a depression after his mom died then his relationship with his father worsened. Now he lives away from his father. Comes off as anti-love at the beginning of the series Girl is really obsessed/devoted to the guy. Eventually you find that the guy loves the girl but feels like he isn't worthy for her love right now so he strives to work hard to be a man deserving of her love.

Both MC (Yuzuki and Ohana) were forced to move away from their home and work due to their debt-ridden family. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Yuzuki and Ohana give their all and are extremely hardworking. And because of their cheerful and caring nature, they change the lives of people around them for the better. Overall, both are relatively chill SoL with some drama mixed into them. If you like Hanasaku Iroha you will like Taishou Otome Otogibanashi and vice versa.

Both of the series feature a beautiful deredere girl helping a shut-in, a-social, but inherently a good dude to get better; building a relationship in the process.

Both are SoL anime that features a character (Kobayashi and Tamahiko) who is unhappy with their current way of life. However, the sudden appearance of Tooru and Yuzuki change their life for the better. Both Tooru and Yuzuki: 1. Helps Kobayashi and Tamahiko with their daily chores and cook meals for them 2. Gives Kobayashi and Tamahiko unconditional love. Initially, Kobayashi and Tamahiko did not fully accept Tooru and Yuzuki, but slowly accepts them as a part of their family and deeply care about them. However, there is some difference between these 2 anime 1. Kobayashi is in a modern fantasy world, while Taishou is in the 1920s 2.  read more

Two strangers engage in domestic life together, hoping to find love and happiness with a future spouse.

Both shows start off with a similar premise. Both involve a male MC, with previous emotional trauma, whose life suddenly gains purpose when the female MC suddenly enters his life declaring that she is his fiance. Not to mention, the female lead in Ai Yori Aoshi is the typical "old-fashioned, proper Japanese lady" type, which compliments setting of this show.

Although one is a two-part movie and the other is a 12-episode anime, both carry charming themes of a love story between two dynamic people. They both persevere through the times during the Taisho Era, which is certainly an interesting timeline to explore. Overall very lighthearted and fun to watch for both of them!

The main girls of these two series affects the lives of the people around them by spreading joy and positivity to heal their wounded hearts.

The animes have different art styles and general nuances, [also one is a 2 part movie and the other a 12-episode anime], but they're set in the Taishou era, with the looming threat of the Great Kanto Earthquake disaster. The characters are vastly different, one could say almost opposites, but both animes deal with arranged marriage, developing young love and hardships developing one's character. Both have strong female characters, but Benio is more of a tomboy while Yuzuki is more of a caring-mother type character. The male characters have almost nothing in common, apart from being from prominent families. Shinobu from  read more

The main girls in both shows are very similar in looks, personality and life circumstances. Both are set in olden-times. Both will give you a bad case of diabeetus because they're just so very sweet.
