Chainsaw Man

Denji is robbed of a normal teenage life, left with nothing but his deadbeat father's overwhelming debt. His only companion is his pet, the chainsaw devil Pochita, with whom he slays devils for money that inevitably ends up in the yakuza's pockets. All Denji can do is dream of a good, simple life: one with delicious food and a beautiful girlfriend by his side. But an act of greedy betrayal by the yakuza leads to Denji's brutal, untimely death, crushing all hope of him ever achieving happiness.

Remarkably, an old contract allows Pochita to merge with the deceased Denji and bestow devil powers on him, changing him into a hybrid able to transform his body parts into chainsaws. Because Denji's new abilities pose a significant risk to society, the Public Safety Bureau's elite devil hunter Makima takes him in, letting him live as long as he obeys her command. Guided by the promise of a content life alongside an attractive woman, Denji devotes everything and fights with all his might to make his naive dreams a reality.

Chainsaw Man isn't just some run-of-the-mill anime series; instead, it depicts something raw, unflinching with regard to human nature, particularly at a stage where one thinks little more than evil and good could prevail. End. Instead, it delves into how circumstances shape us, how even the kindest person can break under pressure, and how even the most flawed individual can show moments of grace. It’s about the line between good and bad being blurred, about how fragile and malleable humans really are.

Denji, the protagonist, is the most realistic and human character I’ve ever seen in anime. At 16, he is not chasing some grand, lofty ... dream or a world-changing ideal. Having grown up in extreme poverty, all he wants is a normal life — a roof over his head, good food, maybe a girlfriend. His desires are simple and raw, which makes him deeply relatable. Denji doesn't even know what it means to have "big dreams" because his idea of happiness is built on the simple things he's never had. That is what separates him from your typical shonen hero: he's imperfect, down-to-earth, and very human.

The supporting cast mirrors this same realism. They aren't perfect, noble heroes; they're deeply flawed, selfish, and vulnerable in ways that make them feel real. Even the ambitious people aren't made glamorous; the movie has managed to weave up their complexities and show through this that even the greatest ambitions made someone alienated and isolated. Such character depth comes from their contradictions—the initial appearance may seem shallow; you begin to watch a long time to realize their full, profound layer.

While there is nothing too special with its characters, art and creativity really stand out in Chainsaw Man. It has brutal but meaningful fights, really distinct character designs, and just so much detail to the point that it's fresh, and not just a borrower from other series-it actually creates something that influences, rather than imitates.

What makes Chainsaw Man truly special is the way it combines gritty realism with philosophical depth. It does not only entertain; it makes you think about human nature, survival, and morality. This is a masterpiece that sets the new standard for anime, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Mixed Feelings

Honestly, if this were Aki´s story i would have watched 500 episodes, Aki should be the main character not the pervert of Denji (i think the perfect word to describe him is PAJERO in spanish).
So, i think is understandable that Denji is such a pervert, considering how he grew up, but its still unbearable. We got it you are a virgin and dont wanna die that way, but why focus the plot on his relationships with women if it's not going to lead to anything?

Denji does not have a goal beside eating and thinking of get laid, is such a boring main character, ... and not only because of that, also because the story itself dont wanna be more than that. Is also predictable, you can tell who is gonna die, and sadly who should die is Denji and the story should focus on Aki or any other character that is less boring (Kobeni would be a good main character as well).

On the other hand, the story starts a little slow, but after about episode 5, the story keeps you watching, and about the animation, is so good, the opening and the endings are amazing as well, the ending 8 is ART as i was watching the first 15 seconds i was thinking "i would watch 200 animes of this" and the ending 12 is done by my favorite japanese singer! so definetly i didnt skip any of them and i think are pretty iconic.

THATS IT. Denji = pajero and boring Aki = god

English is no my first lenguage btw, and anyway im not really interested of doing a good review of this anime, since they werent really interested of doing a good story.

This anime is a true reflection of its era, specifically the 2010s, (this one in 2018) and what do I mean by that? It was a decade where the question of whether something should exist seemed to lose importance, as almost anything was thrown against the wall, stuck and it gained traction. This phenomenon was fueled by the abundance of free-flowing money, where authors were capitalizing on shock value to generate attention and revenue through social media overreactions.

However, as we transition into the 2020s, there's been a market correction. Consumers have grown weary of these superficial stories, realizing their lack of substance and intrinsic value ... to the point where they shouldn't exist. It's a strange era of entertainment that's thankfully fading, as people become desensitized to excessive shock-value content.

And One standout example that marked this trend's demise is "Chainsaw Man". hyped as the ultimate shonen but ultimately fell short as nothing more than a shock-value story that lacks depth and is permanently stuck in the shadow of JJK & DS.

Anyways, Let's dissect its elements starting with the main character. The protagonist isn't a true protagonist but rather a supporting character, the character in every story that is just there and never gets the spotlight or romantic conquest typical of main characters. This is why people say he is not your typical Shonen MC without realizing it because of the simple fact that he is the sidekick to a lead.

This narrative choice was not great, and the author believed it was since it hadn't been done before without understanding the reasons why certain character dynamics exists, like a Batman is batman and a Robin is robin.

The supporting cast is forgettable, lacking depth or development. The story, plot, and world feel pieced together as if generated by a machine instructed to combine elements from successful manga tropes. In essence, there's a glaring absence of genuine effort, with the narrative relying heavily on borrowed references from movies, TV shows, archetypes, and characters from other notable IPs. The author's unapologetic admission to this practice further underscores the lack of creativity, mistakenly perceived as ingenuity.

Perhaps this is why corporations are eager to integrate AI into the creative process, as we approach a point where AI could generate similar stories in seconds, bypassing the months of research and development spent by uninspired writers sifting through fandom wikis.
