Chainsaw Man

Denji is robbed of a normal teenage life, left with nothing but his deadbeat father's overwhelming debt. His only companion is his pet, the chainsaw devil Pochita, with whom he slays devils for money that inevitably ends up in the yakuza's pockets. All Denji can do is dream of a good, simple life: one with delicious food and a beautiful girlfriend by his side. But an act of greedy betrayal by the yakuza leads to Denji's brutal, untimely death, crushing all hope of him ever achieving happiness.

Remarkably, an old contract allows Pochita to merge with the deceased Denji and bestow devil powers on him, changing him into a hybrid able to transform his body parts into chainsaws. Because Denji's new abilities pose a significant risk to society, the Public Safety Bureau's elite devil hunter Makima takes him in, letting him live as long as he obeys her command. Guided by the promise of a content life alongside an attractive woman, Denji devotes everything and fights with all his might to make his naive dreams a reality.

Chainsaw Man is one of those stories that seems loud and chaotic at first, but once you actually read it, you realize how human it is. People say it is overhyped, but it never feels that way. It works because it understands something very real. Broken people do not suddenly become wise or heroic just because they are the main character. They act like someone who survived whatever life threw at them. That is why the cast feels messy and strangely lovable at the same time.

Denji is not stupid. He is a boy who learned to want very little because no one ever taught him ... he could want more. Watching him discover small things like affection or stability hits harder than any fight. His dynamic with Aki and Power makes everything even more emotional. They are a complete disaster together, but they are also the closest thing to a real family any of them ever had. Chainsaw Man does not stand out because of shock or violence. It stands out because beneath all the noise it asks a quiet question. What happens to someone who has only been used their whole life when, for the first time, they meet people who actually care for them?

Mixed Feelings

So this is how shonen should be, huh? Thanks, Mappa.

Chainsaw Man starts in the same tone and ends with the same tone. Hope. Hoping for a better life is the show's motto, and it does it pretty well. We all know how shonen works, guys, main character with plot armor, his rival is some edgy, cool dude with a sword, main character gets an upgrade from his a*s while screaming. Chainsaw Man has it all, but it feels different!?!? The tone, characters, and episodes all feel different then other shonen. The best is clearly Denji and his relationship with his colleagues. If you're watching it ... for a demon-slaying anime, you are in the wrong place. Don't get me wrong, the fights are awesome, but they don't feel like the main focus (cause they are not, duh) main focus is always Denji and his goals and friends, and the show finds a way to emphasize with them so well. But it's not perfect, unfortunately, same sin with Death Note.. final arc feels pointless (I'm noticing a pattern here) when shift changes from Denji and his goals to " Denji and Katana Demon fights while we never see the group together again" it kinda loses its humanity. For example, the drink night scene was peak Chainsaw Man, it felt so humane and realistic that no other shonen reaches. Alas, I know it's the first season of many. When we get season 2, hopefully it will be a 10.

I remember watching the trailer being incredibly hyped for this anime just because of the visuals seen in it. Then this shit releases and I realise it's just some garbage dogshit anime with one of the worst MCs I've ever seen. Nothing about this anime is interesting at all and I could not give a single fuck about any of the characters or the world building.

I honestly just do not get how this anime was hyped. I even tried reading the manga to see if it would get any better but it just didn't. If you genuinely think this is even above a 7 then ... you're probably a below average IQ gooner.

I literally enjoyed something as stupid as Reborn as a Vending Machine more than this lmao...
