Wan Sheng Jie (All Saints Street)

In this world, angels, demons, and other supernatural beings peacefully coexist with humans. Neil Bowman is a demon who is unlike most; he is mesmerized with human culture, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't do anything evil. Thus, he runs away from Hell and up to Earth.

Neil moves in with his online friend and vampire, Ira Blood, along with Ira's many roommates. Despite coming to Earth to meet humans, Neil discovers that not a single one of his new roommates is actually human. Along with Ira, there's Lynn Angel, the stern angel landlord; Lynn's little sister, Lily, who falls from Heaven; Abu, a mummy who never speaks; and Vladimir Eliot Kirilenko, a werewolf tasked with monitoring Neil.

What most of them don't realize—not even Neil himself—is that Neil possesses the powers of the Demon King. What effect will this have on the residents of Apartment 1031 on All Saints Street?

I recently finished this donghua after leaving it on hold for over a year. And after finishing it I found that I put watching this show off for far too long!

All Saints Street is a very cozy found family donghua. The demon king, Neil (Nini) decides to move from hell to the human world since he’s interested in the culture. After coming to the apartment that his friend, Ira, told him he could live in, he discovers that the two other people living there are also supernatural beings. Lynn, the angel, and Abu, the mummy. Later on Vladimir, the werewolf, and Lily, another angel, also ... move into the apartment. The series follows the daily shenanigans the tenants of apartment 1031 face as they live their lives.

Story:

The story is pretty much non-existent, which goes for most slice of life comedies. The series is usually episodic, the episodes are each only 4 minutes so it’d be difficult to cram much plot into it (the Japanese version takes 6 4 minute episodes and combines them into one 24 minute episode, think the Netflix version of Saiki K.) The stories however, are always very silly and simple, but still charming. Most comedy anime struggle to actually be that funny to me, but the humor in this series always landed. The ending was such a sudden cliffhanger, it definitely made me want to immediately jump into season 2!

Art:
8/10
The art in this series is a major part of what initially made me want to watch it. The style pretty much sums up the whole series, simple and cute. It opts for this nice brown lineart rather than the harsh thin black lineart most anime goes with, it definitely helps the art look very soft. The color palette is also beautiful, it's very warm and cozy. The animation is also quite fluid at certain points, the opening is a great example of this. It’s wild that this type of animation is found in a web series, Hetallia could never.

Sound:

I’d like to preface this part of the review with this: I watched the Japanese dub! I don’t have any comments about the original Chinese version’s voice acting, this also means that the opening was slightly different for me (since they dubbed it for the Japanese version). Now that being said, Daiki Yamashita did an amazing job as Neil. His voice is absolutely perfect for the soft wholesome type of character. The other voice actors also did a good job, they were a joy to listen to. The opening is also very catchy, I love it!

Character:

This series has such a loveable cast of characters. Neil is the wholesome demon king, Ira is the vampire otaku, Abu is the silent mummy dude, Lynn is the stern angel, Lily is the angel who’s full of energy, and Vladimir is the overly-alert werewolf. They’re all so different and it makes their interactions with each other very enjoyable to watch. With a series like this they really have to rely entirely on having an entertaining cast of characters, since there isn’t much of a plot or goal, and this series definitely succeeds! My only complaint with the characters is that Abu got not nearly enough screen time, I’m hoping the next seasons flesh him out more.

Overall, this series is great if you just want a cozy comedy to turn your brain off to. I really enjoyed watching the characters just live their lives. I would highly recommend it to any slice of life or comedy fans! If you’re more into plot-driven serious series then you might not love this show, but I’d still give the first few episodes a watch just to see if you like it.

Okay, I'm usually very sharply critical about anime. I rarely give shows a score above 6, especially if they're short, but this one's an exception. I love this show!

For people who have been paying attention to east-asian anime outside of Japan for around the past 2 years, it should come as no surprise that China of all places has really been knocking it out of the ballpark lately in terms of production quality and polish. Wan Sheng Jie, despite having very short episodes (Only 4 minutes each!), manages to perfectly capture what it sets out to accomplish. Since anything I say might be spoilers ... due to the length, I'll keep this review short, as well.

Story & Character (8/10)
This first season has a huge focus on character building, but sets out on giving each character a unique background and lifestyle, as well as how their personalities interact with each other. It's pretty funny slice of life, and I quite enjoy the werewolf man. The demon boy protagonist is a close second.

Art (10/10)
It's actually really good and cute. The simplicity perfectly matches the animation and tonal direction of the show. It can be simple and cute when it wants to, or more complex and detailed when it needs to be. The framerate is a bit higher than that of normal Japanese anime, and it's very relaxing to watch. No matter what frame you pause on, nothing ever feels rushed. I know the style can be a bit jarring at first, especially if you're only used to regular anime, but it really grows on you. I have no complaints.

Sound (8/10)
I don't remember too much about the sound design, but everything felt pretty matching to me. The show is too short to give much of a comment on the sound effects and music, but everything seemed pretty lively to me. The intro is cute and makes me excited for each episode, and the ending theme will change with the tone of each episode. It's a nice touch.

Enjoyment (10/10)
Yeah, I really don't have any complaints. Rarely ever do I give this score, but I got exactly what I wanted out of this show. Season 1 left such a good impression on me that I wanted to start Season 2 right away, especially with the way this one ended. I wish it was longer, but somehow 4 minutes for each episode seems perfect. You can watch the whole first season in under an hour.

Overall (8/10)
It's a short first season that excels at what it is trying to accomplish, and was a very enjoyable watch where I had no real complaints. Without spoiling anything, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, yet quick little show with cute characters. It is very underrated, and has a pretty good chance to make you want to watch more after this. Good stuff. I recommend.

01-03 ― That's why they say not to judge a book by its cover; the king of demons resembles and much with the Satania of DropOut, harmless, useless, poor, a great friend and emanates charisma, basically a Pokemon with other words (A shame Haiquing Xia, Neil's voice actor, is as enthusiastic as an otaku going to school).

Worse than asking a friend’s opinion to choose something, and ending up choosing the opposite of what they chose, only being Neil to think that his web friend is actually a game of choices. Choose the one that turned him into a bum who change the day for dawn ...
