So this is going to be a controversial review given the countless number of reviews giving the series a rating of 10.
Something didn't click for me. What's not clicking, you ask? Good question. I wish I knew.
Maybe it's the way that stories are disjointed. Maybe it's the way the story expects us to care about characters that we only knew for 2 episodes. Maybe it's the way that the world is hardly explained. Maybe it's the fact that Fushi is painfully slow for the creation of a 'god'(?). Maybe it's the fact that every time the narrator speaks, all I can imagine is

Your Feelings Categories Aug 30, 2021
To Your Eternity is not a great anime, nor is it necessarily a bad one. It’s stuck at an awkward in between, with interesting themes and a refreshing story being weighed down by clumsy and often boring writing. The blend of adventure and drama sets it apart from other anime like it, and as disappointing as some moments in the series can be you can understand why many people will find them emotional.
There are three main arcs throughout the 20 episodes, four if you count the first episode. Each one offers a new cast with new experiences for our immortal main character, Fushi. On their ... Feb 17, 2024
Pretentious. This anime is the very definition of that word. Its attempts at presenting something deep and meaningful unfortunately falls flat due to how poorly the author handled the premise, which is a pity considering how this series could’ve actually been something that’s really impactful.
In this anime, an immortal being known as It is casted down to Earth, and as an immortal being, it has the ability to take on and change forms of various living creatures. Later on, it takes on a form of an injured wolf who is eventually helped by a young, nameless boy. After spending some time with the nameless boy, ... Aug 30, 2021
With a stunning first episode that easily seized my interest, Fumetsu no Anata e was one of my early favorites of the year. Sadly, that sentiment did not last as the episodes kept being released. An anime that for me started as high as an 8/10 slowly but surely dropped all the way down to a 5/10. What happened? Well, that's what this review is for!
Spoilers ahead. If you don't want to read the full review there's a tldr at the bottom with no spoilers. A story that centers around Fushi's growth from an "it" to a human-adjacent being would undoubtedly be filled ... Sep 29, 2024
[Spoiler-free summary]:
Fumetsu no Anata e possesses a captivating and unique premise, but falls short in certain areas. The anime follows an immortal entity, Fushi, who attempts to learn about what it means to be human through various experiences. It explores themes of love, loss and the complexities of human emotion. However, it's world-building is weak and incomplete. It doesn’t answer questions about Fushi’s existence and the Nokkers’ motivations. The anime lacks a cohesive narrative, resulted from its inconsistency in direction and pacing. Ultimately, while Fumetsu no Anata e offers emotional depth, it may not be for those desiring a more well-rounded story. [Full review; SPOILER ALERT]: Fumetsu ... Jan 11, 2023
If you’ve ever experienced the death of a loved one, you know the feeling that To Your Eternity seeks to evoke in its audience. Several times I found myself sobbing, and it gave me an outlet to release the pent-up sadness I’ve held from the deaths of people I loved.
To Your Eternity follows an immortal being named Fushi who assumes the form of dead humans and animals he encounters along his journey. He can transform into them at will. A few are a giant bear, a girl who can climb trees, and a wolf. Though he is immortal, he has fears and things to lose. ... Jul 28, 2021
When I watched the first episode of Fumetsu no Atata e I was worried that the series would never reach those emotinoal heights again. I'm afraid to say I was right.
As I write this review I'm at the end of the Gugu arc, the only arc so far to have ANY effect on me since episode 1. Basically every arc is a new sobstory that's only sad conceptually. Let me explain, when you see that a child has died in the news you feel sad, but nowhere near as sad as if it was a child you knew. In the same way, sad things happening ... Jun 15, 2022
I wish I could rate the first 10 and last 10 episodes as completely separate entities. The first 10 episodes, especially episode 1 and the Gugu arc completely blew me out of the water with how good they are. Excellent story and characters backed up by good visuals create a mesmerizing experience.
However, the 2nd half of the series completely fell flat on it's face to the point that it ruined good characters from the first half, as well as introducing an entire new cast of side characters that I could not force myself to care about. On top of that it feels rushed, with many ... Aug 3, 2021
I start by saying that we are four episodes away from the end of this season or anime itself.
But it ends up slowing down enough, bringing some narrative errors and forced things just to work, the author is getting lost and episode 16 shows exactly that, impossibilities occurred and they tried to explore a past event to continue, even so the past event and the fact of the present do not correlate, it only existed to give a reason that girl put Fushi and old woman in an unpleasant situation. arc girl's past, my god what narrative atrocity took place there, certainly this character's decisions culminating ... ***AT LEAST WATCH THE FIRST EPISODE***
When I watched the first episode of “Fumetsu no Anata e”, I was speechless. It was perfect and I loved everything about it. It was a 10/10 for me and was so perfect that I don't know if any other first episode ever has hooked me so fast. The story and storytelling was perfect, the animation was perfect and it was like a short animated movie that could exist on its own. But as much as it hurts me to say it, the show just got worse from that point on. And i’m talking about everything, the story, the animation ... Jan 4, 2024
This anime is a must watch for people who enjoy deep, complex fantasy stories with very well developed characters. It is an interesting anime because of the way one gets emotionally attached to the many characters and their intricate backstories. The anime seems longer than it actually is and it keeps anyone interested, even those who at first doubt it.
Still, this anime might not be the favourite to people who feel like complex stories are… well… too hard to understand. The overwhelming number of characters might also make this anime less likeable, especially to people who hate not remembering the details of every main ... Sep 9, 2021
I think this show would have been really good if it kept to the question "can something non-human that takes the form of a human become human...? What does it mean to be human? Is our humanity granted to us by right of birth or by other humans?" Because wow what an interesting concept, especially when tied in with Gugu's arc. But it uses the same tear-jerking thing of "Fushi makes friend, friend wants something, Fushi like an idiot doesn't save friend from impending death, friend dies, now cry." 3 times in 12 episodes. There's also the "Creator" who can't defeat his own creations and

Story
I heard To your eternity had a unique story. It was definitely not unique in the slightest sense of the word. We follow the experiences of Fushi as it learns about emotions, friendship, and what it ultimately means to be a human. There are several arcs throughout the story. After the end of the first one, you notice the general formula and get an idea of each character's fate. The arcs are not equal in their excitement factor. I found the Gugu one to be the best one by a large margin. Pacing could be a problem as well as some episodes had little of ... Nov 8, 2021
I’ll say it. I liked To Your Eternity. I really did. For a show I only heard about once and didn’t really know much about, it was refreshing to see a title like this. After watching endless titles about school, slice of life, and half-assed harem school shows I can say that. There aren’t many shows that even come close to To Your Eternity in terms of the themes that are explored and the overall impact the show leaves you with after finishing the first season.
Why does To Your Eternity stand out? What makes it so special? Well, for starters, it’s simply amazing because ... Jul 25, 2021
Unpopular opinion based on the other reviews but I'd say this is a meh to average anime, at least at my current stopping point. Very unique premise in the beginning but super slow. I hope that it picks up a little bit as based on the story, it has a ton of potential. The first 5 episodes, imho, could be condensed into 2 or 3. My main issue with this anime, like a few other reviewers stated, is that the main character has zero motivation, at least up to episode 5 which I just finished. Granted I suppose this is the

Decently written but overly manipulative drama. I bought it until I realized the characters in the story were just props to manipulate emotions. If life is a joke then every character's reason for existence is merely so they can be set-up for the audience to witness the punchline of their life.
I was into it for a little while and then realized it was just going for what I consider cheap sentimentality. I feel the show could have achieved the same emotional effect without being so extreme and obvious, or maybe not, maybe I am just a sad sappy sucker. I enjoy some drama, but not ... Jan 24, 2025
Pain, just pain man.
Its one of those animes that make you rethink about life. Being immortal isn't so fun. You have to witness the struggles of other people that die. Idk what to say, I'm just speechless. In this anime, you can't even love a character. As soon as you like them, they die. It is stinging good. It hurts you but you cant get enough of it. You continue to watch it even though it hurts. I dont know if I can even watch the 2nd season. Can we just not have emotional deaths? I dropped this 2 times because I could not understand the 1st ... Sep 19, 2021
I've never seen an anime overated like this.
What's good about this? It's only the Opening song, and animation. The story is less interesting especially for the main character. For those of you who don't like the main character with slow development and filled with stupidity, I really don't recommend watching this. Maybe this review seems harsh to Fumetsu fans, But this is how it is The storyline that is considered too forced to make the audience feel the feelings of the main character is horrible. ... To you eternity presents an original concept that I haven't seen presented in this particular manner before.
The main charcter, an immortal being named Fushi, meets a new side character and grows from forming emotional bonds with said character before moving on to meet the next one. This concept does get repetitive after a while tho. It becomes obvious what is going to happen to every character that is newly intruduced, which makes it hard to get emotionally invested. (It doesn't help that the opening literally spoils everything). There also doesn't seem to be an overarching message or theme past the first few episodes. Kinda ... Jun 14, 2022
This anime has themes of loss, found family, friendship, and death, and overall has the overall question of "What makes the human experience beautiful despite its hardships, misfortunes, and darkness?" It also delves into the impact a single person can make as insignificant as they are to others, they are special in their way. Also, it plays with the question of "why bother making connections when it will only hurt one way or another?" This anime is realistic in many aspects the greediness of humans and the slow loss of hope in a desperate situation.
The first episode is the most emotional for many. ... |
