Synopsis

A long time ago, there was a valiant swordsman who came to be known simply as "the hero." There was a demon who has caused people suffering. The hero and his companions arrived to challenge the demon to a battle and by combining their powers, the battle was brought swift conclusion. With no one around to cause trouble, the island became a quiet place where everyone could live together in peace.

Several years later, the demon is revived. Our present-day protagonist, Dai, lives on a remote island in the southern seas and dreams of becoming a great hero. When he hears about the demon's revival, Dai and his friends take it upon themselves to stop him and the evil force that revived him. Along the way, Dai discovers the identity of "the hero," the truth behind the evil force who revived the demon, and Dai's own hidden powers that surface in times of peril.

A classic relived with mastery.
A nostalgic heroic storyline with exciting and well-built characters. It served as a school for most of the shonen who came after him, managing to capture all the magic and rhythm that the plot of the franchise's games have.

The animation and the soundtrack are cool and made with a lot of love. This is the maximum that Toei Animation can offer. The script is faithful to the manga, with some minor adaptations of humor and violence, but nothing to spoil the show.

If you are a novice, take advantage of the raw material that has shaped generations.

Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken (2020) is an anime adaptation of a classic manga from the 90’s, because the manga is finished this will likely be a full adaptation, it is similar in feel to Dragon Ball and Hunter x Hunter in fact the protagonist is similar to Goku and Gon, this anime is very adventure, fantasy and magic heavy and has an emphasis on lore and world building, the characters are likable, unique and continually develop as the anime progresses, the continuous development of the characters enhances their actions and lines this makes for memorable moments, the animation is amazing and really enhances the read more

As a newbie in Dragon Quest universe, I can undoubtedly say that even if this series run for 100+ weeks, I will stick with it.

Dragon Quest (2020) is your typical shounen action anime, but this reboot is absolutely beautiful. This one is also amazing treat for eyes for its clever and well executed cg.

Story : 7/10

The anime has slow first arc, but interesting one. Dragon Quest's world building isn't very different from average shounen, but since it's source is old, no complain about that. But I can easily guess story will be good in future as early signs are showing.

Art : 9/10

Square Enix is betting very strongly on Dragon Quest in recent years and far from being satisfied with offering us high quality games, it also wants to strengthen the brand through numerous derivative products, which has led them to rescue this great series for make it come back stronger than ever through a new anime and three new video games. While for the latter we will still have to wait a bit, the anime is here.

For this new adaptation, Toei Animation has once again been used for its production, which seems to be read more
