Synopsis

Mayumi Doujima promises her parents that she will give up on her dreams of becoming an astronaut on her 14th birthday if she cannot find a star she once saw long ago. Overhearing her troubles, the eccentric Manabu Soutouin offers to help her search for the star alongside the rest of Yubiwa Academy's mysterious Pretty Boy Detective Club, whose rules are as follows: "Be pretty, be a boy, and be a detective!"

However, Mayumi is unique—she can see many things that ordinary people cannot. Her eyesight allows her to see the tiniest of details, from people approaching her at a distance to hidden traps that would otherwise go undetected. When the search for the lost star begins to sour, the Pretty Boy Detective Club end up entangled in something far beyond what they ever imagined.

This anime has one of the best art styles and production I've seen in a while without being a triple A anime. I could say that Bishonen Tanteidan is at the level of Top Tier animes on production. My favorite opening ever, Godly OST. Amazing Animation, cheers to my lads the animators and musicians.

The characters and the story are pretty average, average++ I'd say, some characters are much better than others, the main character is a 6.8. While others like the little president are a 7.5.

Pretty enjoyable, I didn't enjoy it that much cause it happened that I saw it after a masterpiece like Vinland ...

Mixed Feelings

I really wanted to enjoy more this anime, I really wished I could like it more and tried my best to but I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted.

First, the base story is too weird for me, I know that we can have weird dreams especially when as young as Mayumi (14 yo) but, looking for a star? Really? Like, I mean, there is billion of billion of stars in the sky girl, how can you be looking for one especially? I may lack of poetry but, sorry, the base story is really stupid to me.

The other thing I disliked is the lack ... of romance, I saw "reverse harem" in the tags, where is the reversed harem? I get it, Mayumi is a girl and the others main characters are boys, and so? It doesn't make it into a reverse harem. I wish there was more romantic moments, I had strongs hopes when in the first episode, we see Manabu dance and "hug" Mayumi but this is like the only moment close to a romantic moment and it's annoying to me. I liked the chemestry between those two and I really wished for more.

A thing that bothered me too was that the explanations are way too hard to understand, the characters use difficult words when they could just use simple ones. It really made me get lost when they were on a "case". Plus, the cases they investigate were really weird or not really interesting to me, especially the paintings without people on it, I really couldn't understand what happened there.

Also, the characters act way too old for their ages, how can Manabu be only 11? And the president guy is only 14? Are you kidding me? They also have weird reactions, I don't get what Mayumi want to do sometimes and to be honest, I don't get how they are thinking in general in this anime, they often makes strange decisions and do weird things. The relationships between the characters also feel really rushed to me especially between the cooking guy and Mayumi but also between Sosaku and Mayumi, I mean, she stripped and get massaged by him in one episode and I was like "ok, since when are you guys this close? And how the fuck are you ok by stripping in front of a guy when you are a 14 years old girl?".

To be honest, I don't really know where the story want to go, I get that we are talking about kids being kids and playing detectives and that the final message is "we had fun when we were kid" and "children should take the time to enjoy the innocence of kid games" but, this isn't really kid game in this anime since they get stalked, kidnapped, goes to a casino, get hit by a car and even get threatened, this anime is about kids playing detectives but by playing, they get involved in dark things, I don't get it.

I felt like, the story itself didn't really know where it wanted to go.

I'm kinda sad because, like I said before, I really wanted to enjoy this anime more, I liked the design of the characters (and liked some characters too) but I feel like this anime made me get lost in almost every episodes...

This anime was pure trash. It was so trash that repeatedly, like a theme of the anime, they would introduce arcs and foreshadow events that never came or had no bearing on anything. For example: (MILD SPOILERS AHEAD): The heroes foil an underground casino, which seems to trigger the guy who runs it to want to directly challenge the president of the Pretty Boy Detective Club. But...then he does nothing. The angle just dies. They play up an angle where this little girl is supposed to be excessively mean, with the goal of the MC becoming her friend. Only, she never does. ...
