In the studio of the morning childrens' show "Together with Mama," a crew of miserable adults prepares their facades of amicable smiles and cheerful exteriors to educate a group of innocent preschoolers. In the middle of it stands Uramichi Omota, a former gymnast who can't help but bring the kids down to earth by revealing the harsh and depressing reality of adulthood, even in front of the rolling cameras.

Behind the scenes, Uramichi's much-desired peace is disturbed by his two bothersome juniors who work as the show's rabbit and bear mascots and singers: Utano Tadano, a woman who only wishes to get married; and Iketeru Daga, a handsome man with a crass sense of humor. From smoking and exercising to nihilistic outbursts, everyone's big brother Uramichi always brings up the not-so-moral side to his life lessons.

Simply magnificent, a raw comedy in all its splendor, do not be fooled by the happy and funny colors of the protagonists.

Also a crude satire, towards the work that some people do, in the middle of the entertainment, where you only see the happy face and not the expressions that will be cut in post production.

Each character that is presented has a charismatic side (the only one shown on TV in the program) and their real or adult side.

Starting with the protagonist Uramichi, a happy face in all its splendor but it is nothing more than a lie, addicted to weights and muscles as Tobikichi read more

I first came across Uramichi Oniisan last year, when I saw a PV for it being made. I'm pretty certain that it's anime release was delayed due to the pandemic, but personally I think it was a rather good thing for this show as a lot more people raved about it.

First and foremost, I'd like to mention that I've read the manga before watching the anime, so half of my review will most likely be based on how I percieve the anime in comparison to its manga counterpart.

Uramichi Oniisan has a certain appeal that could seem dark to some - it plays with common tropes read more

This show is incredible. If I had to introduce it to a western audience, I would describe it as The Joker runs a Children's television show.

It's so good. Essentially the plot revolves around Uramichi Omota who is incredibly depressed and highly emotional unstable. This leads to him frequently commenting on his own depression in front of a crow of small japanese children.

The shows humor is highlighted by Uramichi given traditional family-friend advice tot the children immediately followed by him informing the kids about the darkest aspects of adulthood.

It's not just Uramichi who is dysfunctional however as most of his co-workers also seem read more

Meet Uramichi Oniisan, the star of a cute kids' show who would be fired if production took place in the West. But since Japanese parents aren't overly sensitive, they're fine with a former gymnast talking about heavy drinking and abusing one of his coworkers in front of their kids. After all, the kids love it!

Story: This is a slice-of-life anime, but the premise is fun—a group of washed-out adults act in a show teaching kids about important life lessons—and the execution is great. 7/10

Art: Usao's bunny costume and Kumao's bear costume are freaking adorable, and their graphic shirts and jackets allude to their TV characters, read more
