Sequels are not very rare for hentai's. As of right now I am watching a series that has a shit ton of sequels and spin-offs (Oni Chichi). But something that is rare is seeing a hentai return after being dead for virtually forever. But today I can praise the lord for blessing me with another season of Tenioha! In the form of: "Tenioha! 2: Nee, Motto Ecchi na Koto Ippai Shiyo? The Animation". Let's get right into it!
Story: 8/10.
Tenioha! 2 has a completely new fresh start with no re-occurring characters. Don't let the promotional posters fool you, instead of having Nanase and Ami we have
...
Ayane and Nakahara respectively. But one could be forgiven for thinking such as it is clear that the animation studio's intent was to draw people in with similar looking characters (as the cast of the first Tenioha were among the best in hentai). But if it is not the same characters then what is the story this time around? Well it is basically a copy-paste from the first Tenioha with a little less emphasis and time spent establishing the premise. If that is the case you might be wondering how this scored higher than the previous Tenioha... well it is because it crafts a story that is a little more self-aware. It skips past the whole introducing of the club because it trusts the audience's previous knowledge. And for those who are brand-new to the series, they are greeted with excellent character filled stories within the hentai as this one episode is equivalent to two striking character pieces. It still however does fail in terms of the legitimate plot. But overall it is a much more ambitious sequel in terms of the self-contained character stories.
Art and Animation: 6/10.
Tenioha! 2 while more self-aware in the story category is not as much when discussing the Visual Portion of the hentai. When Tenioha! 2 was being produced it so happened that there had to be a studio change from 'Mary Jane' to 'Pink Pineapple'. While both studios are amazing, Tenioha 1 had some of the best art direction and animation I have seen in all of hentai topped with master-class choreography. When it came time for a sequel it would be inevitable for a downfall. That's not to downplay what Pink Pineapple has done though. For shmex scenes the art and animation are phenomenal and really elevate my experience. However the hentai is very lack-luster when it is not in a shmex scene as the character models lack detail, the backgrounds are stiff and the overall atmosphere just does not work. Choreography is a mix-bag too as sometimes it is very good but other times it is just disappointing.
Sound: 9/10.
The sound is great. It has great tracks and the VAs are on point most of the time as well.
Character: 10/10.
So... I had previously stated that past Tenioha cast was one of the best in hentai... so does this live up to it? Yes! Tenioha! 2 delivers so much with the two new leads Ayane and Nakahara. Personailty wise think of these two as evolutions of the other two females they were based on. In terms of character time they just have so much more time to shine since there is less of an emphasis on story. Ayane has so much more going on with her and the final character moment she has is genuinely shocking but very much appreciated for her character type. As for Nakahara she is also brimming with personality too and her final character moment is once again magnificent and is really what helps save the story from losing me. Overall though, they both are less appealing in terms of design. Ayane would have a chance to beat Nanase but the lacking art does not help her. And I'm sorry as much as I love Nakahara she can't even hope to beat Ami in terms of design. But on there own merits.. the designs are great! (P.S. while I did give this section higher then the past season I do want to emphasis that the past Tenioha had 'Matsuri' who was really just a character with not enough time to be fleshed out and really brought down the score for that section)
Enjoyment: 8/10.
The most disappointing thing about this season of Tenioha! 2 is the art. What used to be why I recommended the first season the people has now been reduced to a shell of it's former self. But... I have to admit that they really stepped up there game for everything else. The story while still lacking is now a character drama and the characters are easily the best in terms of personality. While it does have it's flaws, I still really enjoyed Tenioha! 2.
Overall: 8/10.
Tenioha! 2 is not as good as the first. While it's story is much more self-aware it lacks in punches. While Tenioha 1 is the still the better one I would highly recommend you check this out if you have already seen the first as it is a worthy I'll be a bit shaky follow up.
