Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu

Despite being bullied, scorned, and oppressed all of his life, a 34-year-old shut-in still found the resolve to attempt something heroic—only for it to end in a tragic accident. But in a twist of fate, he awakens in another world as Rudeus Greyrat, starting life again as a baby born to two loving parents.

Preserving his memories and knowledge from his previous life, Rudeus quickly adapts to his new environment. With the mind of a grown adult, he starts to display magical talent that exceeds all expectations, honing his skill with the help of a mage named Roxy Migurdia. Rudeus learns swordplay from his father, Paul, and meets Sylphiette, a girl his age who quickly becomes his closest friend.

As Rudeus' second chance at life begins, he tries to make the most of his new opportunity while conquering his traumatic past. And perhaps, one day, he may find the one thing he could not find in his old world—love.

Its a masterpiece. I love this series with a passion. Rudy is so well written, and the story is so beautiful at times that I have cried. This is not like your avg isekai at all. Rudy is a very real person in the way he struggles, the way he changes, and in the way he fails. The emotional story here is so impactful as well. I did say I cried watching it. Mushoku Tensai, however, is not your normal story. I dare say, it is the most conversational show that has come out in the last 5 years. I see lots of negative reviews ... on this, and most of it has to do with the MC flaws and as well as misunderstanding the story. Rudy, the main character, is flawed in a lot of ways; that being said, I think that he is not any worse than a character like Thorfinn from Vinland Saga. A lot of people look at Rudy's flaws and write him off completely, and they will not listen to reason or an explanation, no matter how you explain it to them. But that is human nature, I suppose; everyone wants to be right, and no stranger on the internet is going to tell them otherwise.

I do highly recommend this series, but I need you to do something. I need you to think about Rudy as a character. I need you to think about him as a person, not an anime character. Think about how he struggles, how he feels, and why he does this. Pay attention to the way he changes over time. Don't mindlessly form an opinion without truly thinking about Rudy not as a simple character, but one that in a lot of ways, is almost human in the way he doesn't change in one episode but instead takes time to, which is not something people are used to.

Overall, a peak, beautiful series.

Mixed Feelings

The anime was good, but some parts made me feel uncomfortable. Since it's an isekai anime and we know the main character actually has the soul of a 35-year-old, I couldn’t watch certain scenes — they kind of disgusted me. But overall, it's still something you can watch. However, the story feels like it progresses very slowly. I haven’t checked the manga, but it seems like we’re never going to see this guy actually grow up. And since we saw what you could call ‘enemies’ at the end of the season — even though they’re not really enemies — it feels like the story is ... going to drag on for a long time. If it turns out to be as long as I think, I’ll probably drop it in the second season.

This isn’t just a bad isekai story — it’s an embarrassment. The entire narrative is built around one of the most disgusting protagonists ever written. Instead of giving us a journey of growth, the story wallows in his depravity and then pretends we should cheer for him because “he’s trying.” No. He’s not redeemable, and the writing makes zero effort to truly hold him accountable.

The central plot is paper-thin: “pervert gets reincarnated, still acts like a pervert, but now the world bends around him so he gets rewarded anyway.” That’s not depth, that’s self-insert garbage dressed up as a grand fantasy.

Worse, the story repeatedly crosses ... moral lines. The so-called “romantic” developments are laced with grooming undertones and exploitative setups. The relationships don’t grow naturally — they’re manipulated, forced, and written for cheap shock value. Instead of an authentic emotional core, what we get is harem bait. It’s the same soulless routine: every girl is drawn to him, despite him being fundamentally vile.

And let’s not forget the most sickening part — the narrative actively normalizes and excuses behavior that should be utterly condemnable. He lusts after children, creeps on his own family, and violates basic decency again and again. Yet the story never treats these as unforgivable. It shrugs them off as “comedy” or “character quirks,” and then has the audacity to tell us he’s “redeeming himself.” That’s not redemption, that’s narrative gaslighting.

At its core, Mushoku Tensei isn’t a tale of rebirth, hope, or growth — it’s a glorified diary of a predator wrapped in a fantasy setting. It spits in the face of what a true redemption story should look like. If this is supposed to be the “pioneer of isekai,” then the genre was built on rotten wood.

This isn’t just bad storytelling — it’s dangerous storytelling. It rewards the irredeemable, excuses the inexcusable, and dresses exploitation as romance. Strip away the worldbuilding, and you’re left with nothing but a harem fantasy for the lowest common denominator.

Mushoku Tensei doesn’t deserve praise. It deserves to be remembered as a stain on isekai storytelling
