It shares a similar dynamic of an older character becoming something of a mentor to young new girl learning the ropes. The story is about hunting dragons which are kind of like the monsters in this anime. And at the same time these shows share an interesting setting. In this case they live in a mobile combat fortress while in Drifting Dragons they live in a Airship constantly on the prowl for the next dragon hunt.

Kuutei Dragons clearly draws elements from Ghibli movies, particularly Laputa with its sky crews, pirates, sky explorations, and fantastic airships braving the storm.

Both food focused anime. Very different genres with Shokugeki no Souma being an ecchi and Kuutei Dragons being more fantasy adventure, but they both have the heavy focus on food and cooking for those who want to see more of that kind of content.

They both have the living in the sky factor however drifting dragons (kuutei dragons) is about the hunting of dragons and making use of the entire dragon, while Nausicaä is about living in harmony with life. While watching drifting dragons a lot of it felt inspired by Nausicaä. Like the sky pirates outfits, this one old man in the big city, how the air ships are shaped. Either way I love both. I highly recomend you try one if you've seen the other.

Planetes has a similar overall feel and tone as it also depicts of a group of people working in a dangerous industry. Planetes has a more sci-fi theme than a steam punk

Both shows feature lots of hunting, cooking, and slice of life with action mixed in. The food is very important in both, and most episodes will leave you wanting a meal yourself. Golden Kamuy is the better show by far, but if you enjoy one you will likely enjoy the other.

If you are interested in the daily lives of an airship, then either anime is just for you! Both take on philosophical questions, both have drama, both have comedy and both show relationships and humanly struggles. Keeping an airship afloat is not as simple as you might have thought... before watching these two shows.
