Ascendance of a Bookworm is now a well-known anime with a relative unanimity around its quality. I review the S1+S2 here. (english is not my primary language)
I have been quite disappointed by these two seasons...
The anime is the story of a 20-year-old librarian who is reincarnated in a 5-year-old girl body after her death, in a new fantasy/medieval world. All the anime spin around the fact that this new world has not yet invented the printing and so books are rare and expensive.
The anime have a lot of problems in its writing and I will discuss about them, but before, let's talk about the art

Ascension of a bookworm's key pro is obviously the world building. This is the first isekai in a while I've seen that genuinely worries about the limits of a citizen in a centuries old world. There's lots of little things it pays attention to and I really like that. In fact, most my issues with the anime aren't good critique, more just choices that don't fit my taste but that's not very valid. Things like the very saturated, cartoony style or the fact that not a lot happens. Things happen, the show just clearly isn't trying to be a drama.

This is not your typical isekai.
When people think of the term "isekai" as it relates to anime- a fantasy where the main character is transported to another world, the first thing that comes to mind is a magic-based power fantasy with an inexplicably overpowered protagonist. The protagonist's main goal in that world is usually to defeat a boss of some sort, like say, the Demon King, and being accompanied by a harem is not uncommon. As such, the isekai genre as a whole is typically criticized for being trashy and largely overdone. Ascendance of a Bookworm is the very antithesis of that. In fact, it's the ... Dec 27, 2019
Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen (2019)
Motosu Urano dies and is reborn into a little girl called Myne. She is obsessed with literature. She is a cute girl who wants to continue her life in this way. The world has magic but it is not commonly used effectively as you would expect. She is born into a lower-class family that lives within its means well but not at the level she needs. Thus begins the journey to getting her books. The art style is nice and looks great. Myne towards the end when she uses her magic is great ... Dec 11, 2019
Information and Knowledge are the most valuable things to exist in this world if you can utilize them properly. This what I experienced til now watching this anime.
Even though it's similar to other Isekai anime it's also not.The main character is named Maine who had unquenchable thirst for knowledge in her previous life. Thus she was inclined to reading books as much as she could. Her affection towards books was so much that even when she was dying her only desire was to get to read books on her next reincarnation. This is the part where this anime stands out from other Isekai. She was blessed with the ... Sep 30, 2022
Its really "Wholesome", that's the only word I can use to describe this novel. Trust me you'll like. The story is itself quite unique. Unlike most "power fantasy" anime, this show focuses on the life of person who loved reading books but is unable to do so in her current world. The characters around the MC are fleshed out and well written. If you are a person who enjoys wholesome slice of life shows, I'd recommend you watch this anime too. I couldn't believe that this anime aired a few years ago. This is quite a hidden gem. Can't wait for season 4...
Mar 26, 2023 "Ascendance of a Bookworm" isn't your typical isekai anime. Unlike other shows in the genre, there are no demons or monsters to be killed here. Instead, it's a wonderful journey of a bookworm who's reincarnated in a world without books. The protagonist is Myne a sickly young girl live in poverty. She was originally Urano Motosu, a librarian in her past life and her only purpose now is to be able to read books once again. However, her journey is far from easy due to the limitations of the world that she's in, and it seems like the whole world is against her in her ... Mar 18, 2020
Beautiful anime that will have you surprised with how well it charms you along with its story. Woven plot threads you won't even realise you noticed, bloom naturally and guide the show and your heart.
It really dives into the depths of an Isekai with a great story, great pacing and a delightful cast of characters; while at the same time making you forget its even an Isekai. I'm really excited for season 2/ Give this little basket of wonder a try, you will not forget it. Pros Great Story Great pacing Great Development ... Jan 29, 2020
If you have aversion towards isekai genre. I would say Ascendance of Bookworm isn't your typical isekai. Well except the character being reborn the story is far from your typical isekai you have seen. Its one its kind.
Story(10/10): What is Ascendance of A Bookworm ? Its about myne a little frail girl. In her previous life.In her previous life Motosu Urano was quite a bookworm. While dying she wishes to reborn surrounded by books. But instead she gets reborn as weak little girl myne, who lives with her parents and elder sister in this medieval era town. Having all the memories of all past life all ... Dec 13, 2019
this series is such a hidden gem this season. it is either everyone has their eyes on Kemono Michi, Hataage and overpowered cautious hero, or busy calling out isekai anime for being trash.
This isekai is a rather unique one. rather than being reincarnated, gaining some sort of superpower to fight monsters and protect their girls { or boys }, making their very own harem, this anime is only focused on one thing: books. the only thing the main character is looking for is to read books, and she uses her knowledge from the previous world and execute the ideas in the fantasy world in ... Story 8/10
Urano Motosu has a dream of becoming a Librarian but dies in an accident she wishes to reborn in a world where she can continue to read and enjoy books however when she does awaken she becomes Main a sickly and frail girl born of common stock in a Medieval world where books are available only to the church and the nobility. Despite her disappointment at not being able to read books Main doesn’t lose heart and is determined that if she can’t read the books of others then she will make her own. Ascendance of the Bookworm is a charming Isekai with a story ... Dec 31, 2019
So, this is the first ever time I write a review on this website and I am also not a native English speaker, but I'll try my best on explaining why I love this anime and why this is my second favorite overall. I'm not gonna spoil anything so don't worry !
Let's start with the story : We follow a girl that loves books more than anything else. Tho she quickly dies. She is reincarnated in the body of a weak girl called Main in a completely new world in a family of peasants. Tho she quickly notice something wrong, books are only a thing ... Dec 25, 2019
Slow Series but quite enjoyable and was curious with how it would turn out. After seeing plentyful iskeai anime, this was a fun little spin that they did.
I was quite curious to how the character would reach her goal, and the vairous tid bits of information gathered on the lore of there world (such as the tree that only shows in winter), and the lore of our world (the vairous ways stories/knowledge was written down in different forms of 'paper' through the ages) was both fun and knowledgeable. The ending when her emotions got out of hand rlly made me emtoional, and the twist ealrier ... Feb 2, 2020
There are works of fiction that you get to watch because of how amazing it looks like, how wonderful it sounds like or simply because you liked its synopsis, but for the first time ever, you're gonna watch this because it has the best "YAHOOOOOOOO" ever made. So far, unfortunately, I haven't spotted a Yahoo compilation on youtube and I even consider that it isn't that safe to go searching around on youtube for this work because of a few spoilers, there's even one that's on a thumbnail that is related to the last episode so be careful with that. I repeat, this is the

i'm writing this, as one of startup founder in place where i live which my startup is working on healthcare sector.
you know. this might be only anime that i will badly recommend to my friends this year. in this anime . we will know Myne, the girl who initially a student, but got isekai-d to become a girl. however, her thirst desire to make a book. had giving her an idea to create a social impact from books. and she kept trying all of she could. to made a paper out. to become a book, ... So a while before watching this anime I tried to watch 'Jobless reincarnation' because I'd heard people talking about how it was an 'actually good isekai' and the master of it's genre etc. Turned out it was nothing but a disappointment for me (super creepy show about some pedo using his new life to sexually assault/perve on children) and summed up what I hate about the genre. It felt like the final nail in coffin... proof that isekai would never be enjoyable to me.
Then I saw a youtube video by a female creator talking about 'ascendance of a bookworm' and how it compared to 'dr. ... Mar 29, 2021
Isekai is one of the most debated genres in all of anime. When you watch any show from the genre it's either a hit or miss. Mostly miss as a lot of shows nowadays tend to focus on the most generic and boring storylines with cookie cutter character tropes you can find in plenty of other shows. With that being said there are still some really good shows you can find in the genre(Re:zero, Konosuba, etc.) And this show may just be the best of the best in the fantasy genre. Never in my life did I ever expect a show about a bookworm in

I HATE SoL, I DISLIKE the over saturated isekai genre. Art, story and music was all OK imo but not anything that was mind blowing. All that being said this had the most important aspects down. The characters I liked and cared about and it was enjoyable to watch. It may check alot of the boxes of anime in the same genre but is still its own thing. It was wholesome and definitely deserves more appreciation imo. The typical action isekai is a candy bar, and this is a salad. Its light, enjoyable and good for you. what else you really need to know?

Goat's review of Honzuki no Gekokujou
STORY: 9/10 This one takes a interesting spin on the isekai genre in that avoids some of the more common tropes. For example in many a isekai our protagonist is an overpowered teenage magical male who must go on a great adventure to save the world from a demon lord or some nonsense. Here our protagonist is a little girl whose magic is hindering her and her only goal is to find a book. Such a simple a idea but by putting in the the classic isekai medieval setting and applying real world how real world economics would effect the rarity ... Apr 14, 2022
I started this anime as a background for drawing or in-between Valorant games. I am honestly not a huge fan of "kids in anime" and always watch gory/fight animes - until recently. I'll tell you what, this show is pretty good for just chilling and watching. The main character is lively (but ill, lol) and very determined to do what she wants when it comes to getting books. The supporting characters are all kind - even though realistically most of the nobles would be rude. To sum up the show in a sentence I would say the plot and characters are innocently made for a
