“No matter who you were before, how you look right now is who you are.”
If you thought you had to wait 6 months in order to have a new dose of Seishun Buta Yarou, CloverWorks had something else in mind.
Though it’s a short 5-episode special with no animation, an overly simple plot and no changes in the OST, this was not the role assigned for it. Thought as a bridge to connect the TV series with the upcoming movie, this special fulfills the job of giving the fans one more shot of Seishun Buta Yarou, bringing back some “memories” and making fans be
eager to watch the movie.
Furthermore, as for the sound, I believe that its quite good overall, with a voice acting which stands out above the rest, which makes this special quite enjoyable.
I went into the picture dramas honestly expecting nothing. And I came out once again craving for more Seishun Buta Yarou.
There's not much of a story; in fact, it feels like I'm listening to slices of Sakuta's life, with Mai, Koga, Futaba, Nodoka, and finally, Kaede (cuteness overload~). It almost feels like it's expanding on some of the previous scenes I saw in the anime, and in the case of Nodoka, some interesting character interactions that were not possibly fit into the original 13 episodes.
As usual, the voice acting was on point, and I am once again reminded of why every girl is best girl.
(And if you would like to think otherwise, try to imagine each girl in a different anime. They'll definitely end up best girl.) The soundtrack was the same as from the anime, but it brings that feel of nostalgia, reminding me again why I enjoyed this anime so much.
Overall, I really enjoyed just putting it in the background while listening to my favourite characters banter about daily life.
And now I can't wait for the movie.
(kind of sad there wasn't any Shouko interactions, but I guess I'll have to wait for that)
The picture drama is basically just a bunch of snippets of Sakuta interacting with the other girls in the anime. I didn't expect much, and the truth is that, most likely, only fans that really, really like Bunny Girl Senpai will listen to these without getting bored. There are fans there that lose interest quickly without animation (listening to just audio). Since I absolutely love the anime, I recommend listening to the audio yourself. It's a bit refreshing, because you usually see Sakuta in some kind of arc where a girl he knows has a problem with Puberty Syndrome. The picture drama offers a different
view. It offers a view of normal life, where Sakuta can have banter with his friends, without much worry. For me, it was pretty good. Although, it kind of just made me more impatient for the movie to come out.
A very good Special. It captures the magic of the chemistry between Sakuta and Mai. Even though it is just an audio, you can see the scene perfectly. I develops the characters a bit more and creates more hype for the upcoming movie.
The sound was very clear and the VA are excellent as always. I wish there had been an actual animation, but it was still very fun to listen to it.
It is a good special overall, but animation would have even made it better. For those of you who were sad because Season 1 ended, listen to this, it will calm you
for a few minutes, then make you even more impatient for the movie.
