A military experiment goes wrong, resulting in a huge armored heavy metal guy with a battleaxe and shrieking gargoyle pauldrons going on a rage-fueled rampage. This is what's advertised on the cover and this is what you should expect to see when watching it. It's not everyone's thing, but it's definitely my thing. Biotechnology settings rock, the action is good, the music is great. Ohata is a genius, I wish there was more work from him.
Just like any other fifty minute long 80s action OVA, it's like, just watch it. At worst you get a sleazy action romp, and that's not really a bad thing.
CYGUARD MUTHA TRUCKAHS!
Don't listen to the suckers who say this show is a turd. They're turds. Cyguard isn't art. Ok so it isn't "GOOD" from an analytic perspective. The most interesting parts about the setting are barely touched upon. The characters don't do or say enough for you to care about them. Worst of all, English subs are impossible to find and the dub sounds like it was done by 5 college students on a deadline.
But here's the thing:
CARNAGE, JUSTICE, AND MECHA BATTLES WITH AN APE CREATURE. Sound like fun?
You don't need to watch this movie. Nobody does. but if you're up for some hot-blooded
fisticuffs with rad-tastic music and random decapitations, you WANT to to watch this.
Ok, fair warning: the animation is abysmal outside the action. Hopefully you are only watching this for the action anyway.
What a piece of trash this was.I can only imagine the brainless prison inmate that would waste money to make this cow dung. After the failure of an experiment involving the use of a special material called astenite almost killes john stalker he is then transformed into the god of destruction saldo who go on a rampage for the purpose of going on a rampage.
This is certainly a candidate for the worst anime I have ever seen and that's saying a lot since im pretty easy to please.but this anime is just so awful that even though it short its still barely watchable,There is just
no purpose or any kind of reasonably interesting plot.I watch the dub for this and the voice acting was so bad at times you'd think the producers hired people off the street and compensated them with Burger king coupons. Way better stuff out there .
Well, it's not the worst show in the world, so I guess it has that going for it. But it is among the endless string of similar type of anime stories that were vomited out of Japan during this time period.
Set in the far, far, far distant future world of 2019, in the shining megapolis of Cyber-Wood, as a miracle new material is found that converts psychic energy into real energy. While testing out a new cyber-suit developed to help the slums known as Cancer, an ancient power is unleashed and the wearer of the suit is
possessed and turned into a cybernetic warrior.
Pretty much every other show during this decade involved some sort of secret ESP/psychic powers. Add in the craze of anything "cyber", mix in a heavy dose of Robocop and William Gibson, and you end up with this concoction. Fairly normal artwork and animation, heavy metal soundtrack, paper-thin characterizations, and more unnecessary blood and gore than you can shake a cyber-stick at. If you're into the this type of action-gore that Ohata specializes in, go for it. Otherwise, there really isn't much here worth watching.
