Oh, a recap of the entire Goblin Slayer. Thank Jesus, I completely forgot that one thing that ever happens in it. You know that thing? The one that is literally THE NAME of this damn series? Yeah, thanks for reminding me. Know that meme about the Norwegian murderer? "Why am I here again? Oh yeah, the murders." "What was Goblin Slayer all about again? Oh yeah, he slays them, fucking right."
Here's the recap:
Naked girls. Cow tits. Slaying a goblin. Slaying 9000 more goblins. Edgy intensifies. Rape and people die. "Typical mistake for amateurs."
Girl: fuck he is amazing
Guy: fuck he is amazing
Videogamedunkey: fuck he
Me *in very deep thoughts and utterly focused on the recap* : If I add a D in goblin, it becomes GoBlind.
i.e. It's boring.
That's pretty much everything. The main difference is how it's just 10 times shorter and worse than the original. I don't think any in-depth analysis is required to explain how good of an idea 10 = 1 is, so I will give this a 1/10 just to not follow this math.
*This review is a repost, removed originally because of my earlier 10/10 score was "in contradiction" with the review itself, should be fine now*
Unless you somehow forgot the key events that have happened in the first 10 episodes, dont waste your time watching this, you won't miss a single frame of additional content or anything like that, this special is just a shitty compilation of stuff you've already seen and nothing more :D
After such a cliffhanger at the end of episode 10, having the follow up episode (when you only have 2 more scheduled episodes) be a recap really was deflating and a let down.
As to the actual series itself (since there really aint much to review in the special), if the dark themes are too much for
you, thats cool, dont watch it, just dont be rude to the people who do. If you dont mind the dark themes, thats cool too, watch it, for me, the dark themes have really established a sense of peril in the series, and it makes the stakes seem really high in every encounter, and makes for quite intense viewing in some scenes, but likewise, dont be rude to the people who dont like it. :D
Well, I can hardly find how it would be possible to forget what happened in the previous 10 episodes, but still. They really made a recap episode, to sum up what previously happened. They focused on how GS became... himself, then the meeting with the 3 others (no introduction of the Priestess at all). Finally, we get to watch the Water Town events (without Sword Maiden's apparition, argh) and they left us at the end of Episode 10.
So far a non-necessary episode, which acts as a break before the very awaited Globlin Lord arc. Anyway, it just delayed the next episode and increases the hype
! Now we can only expect that they give the show a powerful and bloody animation, 'cause it has to be !
How does Goblin Slayer start off with a recap episode? With some 'tits and ass' fanservice from a character called “Cow Girl.” No, I am not kidding, you know the deal, this show cannot go a few steps without giving its loyal fanbase some desperately needed spank bank material. A recap on a one cour show doesn’t make sense but, when you take a step back and think about it for a while, the decision kind of does since Goblin Slayer as a series doesn’t make sense to begin.
The recap chronicles some of the past events that have led up to the end of episode
10, which may prove helpful to some since this show can’t hold people’s interest when it isn’t showing gratuitous and titillating fanservice and edgy content. A recap episode, generally, means the studio couldn’t make the deadline. Some obstacle appeared, someone has dropped the ball and that caused the episode to not be completed on time. This forces the editor to sit down with the series as it currently is and quickly put together 20+ minutes of "the story so far," so there is at least something to broadcast. In the Anime industry, this sort of thing is like raising a white flag. It's a message to the public that the production has tilted out of control and needs more time. Everyone takes notice, including the fans. For a one cour show like Goblin Slayer, a recap episode is a total waste of time, and can quickly sour viewers, particularly if they were on the fence about it, to begin with.
It’s obvious that the studio is trying to end things with a bang! Seeing that it skipped an arc to save it for the remaining episodes to adapt the "meat shields" a.k.a the second biggest controversial moment, similar to the likes of a certain 'beloved' scene from episode 1—its remaining budget could go into this but wouldn’t be surprised if we get the same mundane visuals and choreography as we have gotten so far over 10 episodes where GS is still in cringe-worthy CG like he has been for the majority of his screen time. Let’s hope there isn’t a second season for this badly written series.
