Both have the same genre, that has something to do with thing from world war 2, except garupan was more into tanks , while Kouya was more into planes.

Both have the same military genre, that involves the Air Force and their air war with flying opponents, while one was set in an alternative future the other one was set in an alternative past.

The Shirobako Specials were the adaptations of the anime inside of Shirobako. The second episode Third Aerial Girls Squad and The Magnificent Kotobuki are not only similar premise wise; cute girls flying in fighter jets, but the very same director who did Shirobako works on Kotobuki. Basically Third Aerial Girls Squad come to real life. Whether this was completely intentional or not, it appears to be a subtle nod at Shirobako.

Both feature flying/piloting a propellor plane in a fantasy-like setting, making for exciting adventures, accompanied by great camerawork and sound.

They're both similar shows about Girls that fly planes and fight however in Strike witches they are the planes themselves and in Kotobuki they have actual planes they fly.
