Fate/Grand Order: Shinsei Entaku Ryouiki Camelot 2 - Paladin; Agateram

Jerusalem, 1273 A.D. Here, both the wandering knight, Bedivere, and Chaldea’s own expedition find the Sixth Singularity. The residents of this desolate land have been driven from their homes as three opposing powers battle for control of the land.

Bedivere and company seek the help of the Mountain People to rise up against the Lion King and the Knights of the Round Table and combat their slaughter of innocents. After a deadly struggle and the loss of a dear friend, the group approaches Ozymandias, the Sun King, whose incredible power could help them turn the tables. In the halls of this great pharaoh, they desperately seek an alliance. Ozymandias, however, reveals the Lion King’s plans and refuses to assist in foiling them, instead wishing to protect his own people.

Shaken to their core by the revelation of the Lion King’s true intentions, Bedivere and the Chaldean expedition decide to mount an attack on Camelot itself, hoping to put an end to the Lion King’s schemes.

At last, the day of the final battle in the Holy City arrives.

What are the true intentions of the Lion King, who has become so cold-blooded and diabolical?
How can humanity be saved from a world where ruin has been already promised?
What will become of Bedivere after shouldering the burden of a sin that can never be pardoned?

Art piece.

I'm not going to lie, I was a little meh about the first two movies (chronologically). I came into this expecting it to have a climax, since that's what fate does most of the times (with earlier movies building up and later ones having a big conclusion). HOWEVER, I was not expecting this at all. Right of the bat, the first half the movie was already a step up to the previous one, I was watching it with a friend and in the first 15 minutes I literally told him "I'm going to give it a 10 without even watching it" and I have ... never done that with any other show. That being said, I was being a little sarcastic and I did plan on changing my rating after finishing the movie. BUT I DID NOT. I genuinely thought the first half of the movie was it's peak, and I expected one good battle towards the end but oh boy that second half was something else.

I am not over exaggerating when I say this, but after the fights began this movie literally became an art piece. I was so shook that I completely forgot what I was watching and I got that special feeling when you close your eyes and listen to a unique album and imagine things in your head. The things that I was seeing, were completely out of this world and it almost looked imaginary. There was one particular piano OST scene where my eyes started tearing up from pure joy knowing that I was experiencing something different. This is one of those movies where I'd want to erase my memories and experience it for the first time once again.

So as you can tell from the two paragraphs I've written above, my ratings for individual categories would be:

Music 10/10
Art 10/10
Staging and Creative Direction 10/10

HOWEVER, the only thing that holds this movie back is the lack of time they had to build a story that you can relate to.
The story was not bad, and it was pretty easy to understand imo. The only confusing part is caused by how Fate decided to present this series (as this was released after it's sequel). It had pretty amazing and unique characters as any fate series always had, but there was so little time for me to bond with the characters where if one of them achieved something, I would not feel too happy, and if one of them died, I'd still not be sad enough to cry. (And I'm pretty emotional) Also there was one more thing where they literally kept the entire plot hidden from you until the very end so you literally couldn't understand what was going on.

So with all of this in mind I'd give the following ratings to these topics:

Characters 10/10
Story 8/10 (pretty good story, but the plot was revealed at the end meaning that you didn't know what you were working for until you achieved it)

Even with the criticism I've had, this movie was definitely a 10/10 and one of the most unique viewing experiences I've had, and it DESERVES a way higher rating on MAL.

Mixed Feelings

Full disclosure, I have played Fate/Grand Order the mobile game and am familiar with a lot of what the movie is adapting.

I have watched both FGO Camelot movies twice, once on my own and again with an "anime-only" friend and we both agree... what did we watch exactly?

With Babylonia, my friend could watch it, not knowing anything, and still get the gist and enjoy the series. He did not feel the same way about the Camelot movies. I, too, did not enjoy the Camelot movies as much as I thought I would've.

Like many people, I also felt like they should've did a 20-ish episode series ... for Camelot the same way they did for Babylonia. They also chose to remove some characters and change some events to make up for those missing characters. The pacing is a lot tighter and faster-paced but not in a good way, I had a hard time understanding motivations of many characters on top of scenes simply happening then moving on, and my friend had so much trouble keeping up with what was happening or why it was happening.

The art goes from fantastic when things are slow to weirdly disproportionate human-ogres when any serious action scene goes on. It was extremely noticeable and contributed to the "WTF is even happening?" reaction that me and my friend had, especially near the end.

Music is great but because me and my friend were constantly going "WTF is even happening?". The music was often overshadowed by me trying to explain what was happening to my friend. Like the music wants you to feel what was happening was an epic emotional scene but, again, so much was happening so fast.

There were also some strange audio choices, both in the Japanese and English dub. Where people from off-screen would talk to another character on-screen at low volume to simulate them talking at a distance. Sometimes we didn't know who was talking at the time until the next scene.

To me, this did not reach my expectations that could've been at the same level of the Babylonia anime. I understand that adaptations can't adapt everything nor can they fit everything to the time constraints of a movie but they certainly tried to cram it all in in 2 movies.

5.5/10 ~ Much better then The first movie.

It feels so weird to be mildly ecstatic about something that is 5.5/10, but after just watching nearly 5 hours of some pretty bad anime, this was the cream of the crop of Fate/Grand Order (so far).

However I have to start with that this movie is unwatchable by itself and you NEED to watch the first one, other wise nearly every character does not make sense, not that many of them even with context have actions that entirely make sense.

This movie is entirely here for the flashy fights, but unlike most other fate properties this one ... for some reason seemed to have a bit of budget cuts or something making the quality a bit less then normal. But in so, it felt like it had more of a human element then ever before, for whatever reason this movie, especially towards the end when they invade the holly city, felt more like art then action. And honestly this made me pause and rewatch some bits because of how uncharacteristically this was for Fate and Type Moon as a whole.

I however cannot rate something just based off how pretty it looks, I also have to look at how it makes me feel, did I take anything from it as a person? did any of the characters stand out in terms of depth or growth? was the story something that will stick with me forever? to all of this I have to give a resounding "no" so I cannot possibly put this past a 5.5/10 which disappoints even me as I will probably forget about this not to long from now. And that is always sad.
