High value in term of production, such as stunning visuals, amazing sounding, might be the perfect cover for a poorly-written script that is going nowhere and an attempt trying too hard to be melodramatic, which results in plastic memories that will be forgotten on the following day.

Both have THE BEST fantasy visuals in my eyes, and both discover the meaning of love so beautifully that I can't praise both of them enough. Both of them are animated fantasy movies at its finest. Just that Maquia is a stand alone movie and Violet evergarden movie is a continuation of its TV series which is equally beautiful.

Both focus on love and being unable to express it, same animation studio as well (KyoAni), so both have a very similar feel and emotional endings.

Its not much on similar on the first one but the main heroine lost the person that she loved on the time of the war taking into literature, believing that the person is still alive in the end

Both movies are adapted from novels; Violet Evergarden from a light novel series published by Kyoto Animation and Dog of Flanders from a classic novel. Both of the movies have emotional themes which emphasized on loyalty and love relationships which will touch your hearts forever as you watch it from the beginning to the ending!
