2020 wasn't a good year for us and we all know that. However, it was indeed a good year when it came to anime releases! We had some great anime that came out that year, including Re:Zero Season 2, Kaguya-sama Season 2, Oregairu Season 3 , Tower of God, The Wandering Witch, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, and Kakushigoto. However, with the huge variety of anime released in 2020, there are some that people might have missed. I have listed seven anime (for now) that I think you might have missed on 2020! These anime might have scores less than 6.5, or member counts less than 50,000. And no, I'm not ranking them.

Anime that has an otaku as the main character.

Explicitly Cannon Couples and Hard Subtext Shows. Subtext shows listed here have substantial content and not just a little bit of teasing here and there. Subtext can also be an unspoken focal point of the series. These are shows I can actually recommend and like enough to suggest checking out.

-some popular shows in here simply worth mentioning because it would be criminal not to mention them.

A collection of anime that deal with music one way or the other.

Animes focused on the world of entertainment, the music industry, different types of disciplines and art.

In this list, I tried to collect as many shows as possible that are dedicated to the deconstruction of certain genres, plot themes or various characters. Therefore, there are both tragedies like Madoka and Eva, and parodies like KonoSuba or Kaguya.

Shows that I personally feel are underwatched/underated, and should get more attention! They are not obscure, hidden gems that nobody has watched before, but even so, it'd be nice if more people discovered them :)

You love female idols and their cute performance? In that case, you did everything right! Their music give us joy and happiness right? Whether you are already an expert in this area or simply want to try it out, the most important part is: Enjoy, relax and have fun!

(note: I didn't add the OVA, Recap or their music videos in this list, just the anime itself. I am gonna write a few words about each of them. This list is more or less sorted by rating.)

This list covers 2009 up to 2029, it considers the winners of the "Character of the Year Award" (gender divided between 1983 to 2022, the newest award is general). it will be updated every new award publication. If in the future, the item limit in stacks is lifted or expand to 100, this will be merged with Part 1. Updated with the winner of 2022/2023.

The yuri anime genre unfortunately has a reputation for creating relationships between female characters that are incredibly ambiguous. This is a list of anime in which the romantic/sexual relationship between the two girls is very clear (and not one-sided). The girls in question should be major characters and their relationship should be one of if not the biggest driving point(s) of the show. No hentai titles, as adding even one would get the whole list marked nsfw. Some representation on this list is better than others, and I have provided an opinion under each title.

Here are things to keep in mind:
-being written by a woman doesn’t mean it won’t have fanservice
-being written by a woman doesn’t mean it won’t have elements which could be considered offensive
-the primary staff of most anime is men, and most anime is directed by men
-the sexual orientation of manga artists, light novel authors, and anime staff are generally kept private
-“who exactly wrote this?” isn’t always an easy question to answer. Let’s say there was a card game, then a manga, then an anime. Who would you credit, in that case?

In my opinion, people make assumptions about anime written by men and anime written by women, and those assumptions are only sometimes true. I do find that anime written by men and anime written by women feel “different”, but not in the ways that people tend to expect it when asking for shows written by women.
