Hathaway and Lelouch lead their revolutions against an overprivileged and racist regime donning an alter ego through bloodshed and warfare in order to justify their cause after a certain tragedy struck them in the past prior to their rebellions Both contain mecha, solid animation, high tier music, solid writing, and caliber character development that will live up to Sunrise's expectations forever

Way before CG there was MSG HF and it was possible that HF inspired CG since both series have identical themes of revolution, mass murder, tragedy, racism, privilege, tyranny, and moral ambiguity that allowed history to repeat it self from time to time. Hathaway and Lelouch are leaders of their own respective rebellions who suffered a tragic past that dealt with their loved ones which influenced in them upon starting a war against a reigning government known to dominate the majority of the world under it's heels abusing all of those under the status quo by continuing the overprivilege status and discrimination per culture. Both were released in the same year as smash hit mecha series featuring a movie that is reminiscent to that of the previous conclusion of the main series taking place way back before the 2000s. Where Hathaway deals with the conclusion of CCA following the pollution of the galactic superpower, 3.0 + 1.0 takes on cues from End of Evangelion as a way to retell the story under a different revision. They are stellar in writing, music, and animation (Tomino and Anno, Hiroyuki and Sagisu, and Sunrise and Production I.G.) Protagonists (Hathaway and Shinji) suffer trauma that happened in the previous war that led them to developing psychological  read more

During the time of their eras, these films revolve around the pollution of Earth and the corruption of humanity that explores more into the nature and the very personalities of the civilization that drove them into such state. One can say that Hayao Miyazaki and Yoshiyuki Tomino were at their peak at that time (Miyazaki writing more of Ghibli movies and Tomino as the helm of HF back when it was a LN alongside directing other Gundam series during the period). If you like one, then no doubt you will enjoy the other if you like the themes of nature, earth pollution, corruption of humanity, etc.

Shinn like Hathaway suffered a tragedy that allowed him to join the revolution against the corrupted Earth government known to abuse privilege just to continue discrimination and retaliating against it means that he would be unable to repeat the marks of the past but at the same time must encounter obstacles and development along the way to justify what he stands for. GSD is no doubt the closest thing to that of HF since it is meant to harbor similar themes and emo protag.

Both revolve around the pollution of Earth and to the extent the corruption and vile nature of humanity making these two films a decade to see of their respective eras. Miyazaki and Tomino were no doubt at their peak when writing the stories of both stories (Miyazaki for the film and Tomino for the LN before it was a full fledged film decades later). If you like the themes of Earth pollution, corruption of humanity, natural environment, etc, no doubt you like like one if you already watched the other.

When it was announced that Shukou Murase would be directing the Hathaway movie, my first thoughts were "he's the right person for the job". Both are sci-fi political thrillers based on critically-acclaimed novels full of espionage, deception and graphic displays of how terrorism and combat destroy human lives and the surrounding environment. If you want to see more of the Hathaway director's style, Genocidal Organ is the first movie you should check out; or vice-versa. Genocidal Organ follows the agent Clavis Shepherd's mission to track down John Paul. Wherever John Paul goes, genocide follows. Gundam Hathaway's main character Hathaway secretly "leads" a terrorist group but forms  read more
