Despair War is a battle between ancient guns and contemporary guns. Due to a nuclear war, the world was destroyed. Under the full governance of a world empire, people are living with their freedom taken. Despite the forbidden rule of owning any weapons, there is a resistance that secretly fights against the world empire. They own ancient guns left as art and fight using these. Then, the Kijuushi appear as the souls of the ancient guns. Proud and magnificent, the "Absolute Royal" are the only ones that can give hope to this world. The story depicts the everyday life of the Kijuushi. Laughter, despair, happiness, confusion, pain; they would still pursue their own absolute loyalty to fight. What do they fight for? What should they protect?
This anime is definitely about war. It has lots of war related things such as guns, and nuclear missiles, and hunger and misery. This anime clearly does take part inside war settings.
This is not me being stupid, but the author of this work practicing world-building. It is even worse than I have managed to make it sound.
Our war dudes are definitely dudes. We have bishie, moral hero, bishie 2, crossdresser maiden, bishie 3. Ponytail crossdresser, bishie 4, and one more crossdresser.
The idea behind this show is apparently to mock war veterans and male soldiers by giving all of our characters generic harem design and
making them crossdresser or even beyond crossdressers. Most of our crossie dudes are really just generic harem girls who have male faces, bishie bodies, and voice actor who attempts to capture the essence of stupidity. All of them have haircuts that are only ever wore by female characters just to make it more obvious.
The series also parodies great many things from tea ceremonies in Legend of the Galactic Heroes to Gilgamesh (Fate/zero) sword attacks with guns. I am also certain the crossdressing trap maiden shota twins are a parody of Re zero. Cool ideas. That's all they are. Not cool anything else. Just ideas. While I would love to see these series to get mocked, it needs to be done by a series that is at least as good as the mentioned, not worse.
There is no better early Christmas gift you can give to yourself than refrain from ever watching an episode of this anime, ever. I'd rather recommend watching gay porn ironically -perhaps even unironically- with male friends than witnessing the fuckery that this anime is.
Wow oh wow...never have I seen much disdain for a series (a game adaptation nonetheless), that even the MAL score seems to resonate this series relegation to the worst, untouched shows of the Summer season (I would call it the Mars of Destruction of Summer 2018). And to top it all off, the idea that director Kenichi Kasai (Nodame Cantabile, Bakuman) wanted to produce this really baffles me a lot. But with all that said, what is this series about and what does it do?
To give the backdrop, Senjūushi, or The Thousand Musketeers, is a game that exists in the LINE app of games
that had just been released in March of this year to Japanese gamers ONLY (none that exists in the West) which had been co-developed with Marvelous. The game explores on these all-men crew who are anthromorphized guns, human-looking men who act like guns from various histories of time, where plays collect and duel battle with them (you know, just like the majority of collect-and-fight games out there). So in a nutshell, this very obscure series naturally went unknown (not that I played it before).
The story is somewhat nonsensical, but the summary is this: expect an all-star cast of men (gay men to be precise from people I have heard from, not to mention that men who look like women but with male-sounding VA is creepy) who act like guns with their unique traits of ancient times, go by their group name Kijūushi (which means Noble Musketeers) with their unique power of "Supreme Nobility" which gives them their powers to ward off their enemies...and that's just scratching the surface of the show. Immediately, my thoughts of last season's Dance with the Dragons come to mind that this series, composed by the infamous Takashi Aoshima (responsible for the failed adaptation of Rewrite), is gonna end up very similar but yet may end up different at the same time. The difference? I have no BS idea how...
Character-wise...I'm just gonna be straight. Even though this replicates the Uma Musume-esque characterization and cast from the games that they come from, the former is leaps and bounds better than this BS idea of game-to-anime adaptations. I'm quite certain the writer (Aoshima-san yet again) has absolutely no idea how to make use of the characters, though I swear that aside from the different names and all, their purposes are EXACTLY the same, and do nothing to salvage the series. Instead, this series just dumps everyone that the producers can think of without giving much thought for them, and as for the VAs, apart from favourites Shouta Aoi and KajiKaji, it sounded like everyone else acted as side characters from other shows, and are generally unlikeable. I'm sounding harsh, but that's true reality.
Art and animation by TMS Entertainment is unfortunately not the icing BUT the base of the cake, because their art style and animation is still good, not the Megalo Box-style of quality but still passable for what it is, and it manages to be the only constant that excels in this series. Not to mention that cases of CGI are used, and it's used badly and doesn't blend well with its surroundings. And this to me feels very wasted for a series that its attention was outcasted by the barrage of other shows which fare much better than this.
Music-wise, it's what every fangirl (and YES that's the ONLY niche targeted audience) wanted with this series in terms of musicality, of which the OST here sounds like one that is largely supported by an all-men cast, of which I'm not very fond of. Overall, from the OST to the BGM that largely is supported by suspense and SoL-esque features, it is very weak and watching this felt like something is about to happen, and yet as it happens, it delivers with substantial dissonance.
So overall, unless you're a fangirl and care enough for the all-men crew of Senjuushi, their antics, traits and whatnot, I'd absolutely, sincerely ask you to steer clear of this abomination of which its target audience missed the mark very badly, and while the story delivers decently (for now), everything else is just meh and just not worth your time.
P.S. Testament time, I had a super hard time appreciating this show, and don't judge me when I said that it doesn't have any appeal, just try if you don't believe me and see whether it does to you.
Thinking about watching Senjuushi? Dont. Are you here 4 years from now when Senjuushi became a meme like sao? Yes. You need to be up to date to the memes.
Let me elaborate. Its shit. Its actually really shit. The sounds are not matched with the animations. The animations are out of this world. And its made by TMS ENTERTAINMENT. The studio which fave us big 4head girl. an anime thats still fucking aring and a shit ton of sport animes.
Senjuushi itself has wrong tags, dont get mislead. It says action and Military which for the first
20m of ep 1 seems okay. After that our big boi mc (Forgot his name cause everyone has SHIT NAMES, Except kentucky cause he is voiced by Yuki Kaji) Starts some sort of magical power where he can shoot his gun wihch has 1 bullet in it 50x without reloading. Basically he became a fucking magical girl.
So do you currently wanna watch this anime? NO?
Did this become a meme? YES, Watch it. Add this to your meme collection
I really think this anime adaption was meant 1. For current players of the mobile game and 2. To bring more people to the game (probably failed pfft).
This anime is bad, it's really really bad. Mind you this is coming from a dedicated player of the game (don't ask to add me or anything or whatever I only have three 5 stars it's a disaster rate-up's a lie), Senjuushi's anime adaptation is horrendous.
Animation: There's this one really nice Furusato sequence (I think) in episode 10 that's about it (slay queen)
Art: Please just play/look up the game is you want Senjuushi's
true art (although there are a few frames of some characters that are really nice). But I gotta say I'm pretty lucky as a Hall/Ieyasu/Kiseru fan thanks for the good food (also Snider but he isn't in the anime shame, guys, shame)
Sound: Soundtrack is meh, character songs are pretty good. Seiyuu fans like myself are better off just buying the music without watching this abomination lol. (We've got a Kaji Yuki/Aoi Shouta duet and I don't think I'll ever recover guys)
Character: I'm really only here for the seiyuus and to see my boys animated (albeit badly). There's a big cast, m'dudes, we're talking like 30+ (it's not even the full cast from the game lol) and they get almost 0 development (although it's looking like something happened in the past but we're already going into the final episode).
Enjoyment: I'm not gonna lie, this anime is a guilty pleasure of mine. Senjuushi is trash and so am I (look at my favs and tell me I'm not).
Final statements: Seiyuu fans please just buy the music, Senjuu-game fans stick to the game (good luck tiering in events may the modern guns attack you after normal stages for more EP), anime fans don't watch this it's really bad and finally, all together now:
Senjuushi is a bad anime.
Now if you'll excuse me I have a Hall 4 star to get my hands on in-game.
