Lady Sports is an anime about these.... oh wait, let me take that back. Lady Sports is a powerpoint slideshow about these intergalactic sports girls with insane sex appeal.
Our adventure to the ecchi planet starts off with a scene (by scene, I mean a completely still hentai picture) of a tanned hoe who is sitting on the toilet taking a shit. Apparently, she is the epitome of all sport ladies and has the experience of 1000 different sports. At this point, I was thrilled. Maybe this "sports" was a code word that stood for something like "sucking dicks", which would have been at least way
more believable considering the nature of this series.
The next girl who was introduced was a 14 years-old loli, also taking a shit, but at the same time, apparently suffering either from stomach ache of periodic pains. Possibly a stomach pain caused by psychosomatic symptoms due to the nervousness she experiences before the great lady sports (dick sucking contests) or by the fact that she is a character in this mentally ill, fucked up powerpoint.
The cast was not limited to these 2 character, oh no, not even close. Behind the toilet doors, our 3rd heroine was knocking the door furiously (this was narrated in the series btw, because the series does not have any animation, so in reality she was just standing behind the door). Why does she knock the door, you ask? Because she needs to take a shit as well. BUT! Just so happens to be, she is actually a tsundere, so it's not like she really needs to take a shit or anything, baka.
At this point, it should be noted that all of this has happened within the fist 50 seconds of the first episode. After this, things turn more shittier. No. I am sorry to inform you, but this is, indeed, not a pun.
Most of our episodes are similarly thought-provoking, challenging the viewers comfort zone and rattling the shackles of modern society. These amazing sports events start by girls describing what type of a shit take took today and how it represents their healthy lifestyles - which is great because that's the only thing that can be called healthy in this series. When it comes to subject like sanity and wholesomeness, these are not words that can be used to even describe the series during opposites day because the series is just that fucked up.
Please, do not watch this... thing. I did and for days now I have been struggling not to drown in my own drool. This is the first time ever when I have been scared by anime.
This is my first ever review I have made (I think I will not be doing any more since I don't like to write long reviews)
Ladyspo is not an anime, but a Picture Drama focused on futuristic Sci-Fi sports
Ladyspo is more fun to watch if you are a fan of CD dramas, Picture dramas, Radio dramas...as there is little to no animation
Each episode is short, as in most dramas, but they deliver what they intend to deliver. They are fun, weird, and full of action. As with CD dramas, one has to use their imagination to get the full picture of what it is
If you expect a full animated series Ladyspot isn't for you.
There's a story somewhere about the making of Ladyspo. There has to be. Some key staff member had a nervous breakdown, or all funding was cut and they were forced to air the thing anyway. Just SOME reason why this was allowed to exist and air as-is. I think most of the reason I'm bothering to write a review of this 'series' is so some brave Internet detective out there will find the answer.
Ladyspo is ostensibly about a female sports team in the future, in space. It's actually a picture drama - some okay-ish images with an overlay of each speaking character, mouth flapping to
convey speech but not even trying to keep it in sync. I can remember very few things about the characters, even though we're probably supposed to care since what 'plot' we get involves rivalries, disappearances, and very little actual sports. Even that jumps all over the place and keeps adding new concepts with so little resolution that at one point a character says "we'll work it out somehow" and that's supposed to be it.
Much of the first episode or two involves jokes about bathroom use, maybe to distract from the lack of movement or action in a show about sports that is also 3 minutes long (plus a minute of song over the credits) each episode. That ends for a long stretch until, an episode or two before the series is over, an 'emotional' scene is happening while there are (new and different!) visuals of the characters on the toilet AGAIN - as if the budgetless show lost even more money and had to last-minute replace what was actually supposed to be there.
The toilet 'humor' isn't the biggest problem with Ladyspo, because that mostly ends. The 'slide show' nature of the show isn't the problem, because there are plenty of good audio dramas where you can effectively imagine what's going on and be drawn into the story. The biggest issue is that Ladyspo instead fails to be...really anything. Not enough attempts at humor to be a comedy. Not enough cohesiveness to be a story. Not enough wackiness to be randomness-driven. Not enough fanservice to be ecchi.
And the sports? At least three times I didn't know what game they were playing or what the rules were. I'm still not sure if I was supposed to.
