Both are about cute girls doing cute things. Both however stand out from the mass with their witty humor. They have their differences, with Azumanga Daioh taking place in regular school and contains many instances of questionable humor. Whilst Hidamari Sketch takes place at an art-school. School lifes Galore! Nevertheless, entertainment about daily lives of high school girls has never been this good. :3

Both animes consist of weird camera angles, "typical" high school anime girls and plentiful parodies (Though much more careful observations are required in Hidamari Sketch). Yes, Maria Holic is a darker anime compared to Hidamari Sketch (which is ironic seeing that the story is set in a Catholic school for girls). However, both animes are full of subtle comedies and packed with randomness (which is always a plus for me)

Both slice of life genre series are about high school students and their interest in art - oh, and cats (but more so in Sketchbook than HSx365). One difference between the two series is that HSx365 follows four girls, two who are first year students and two who are upperclassmen who are aiming to graduate with art degrees. Sketchbook, on the other hand, follows first year student Sora who enters into her school's art club and as well as her classmates who are in the club.
