Usually i don't write reviews, let alone use this website but watching this anime changed my mind.
It's enjoyable at surface level, if you just want something to watch in the background, I guess.
I try to keep myself spoiler-free but can't gurantee it from this point on
The plot itself is okay in the first episode but never expanded on in interesting ways, which makes me wish for more worldbuilding instead of fanservice. How does this world work, how do the characters work?
But instead, you're given a story with so many twists and future interjections that it barely matters. What you see in episode 3 might

why I dropped this anime:
- didn´t like a single character - the whole "points system" and why they didn´t got any was super obvious from the very beginning - are some of them really that dumb or are they pretending? How did some of them even manage to get accepted at THE elite school of japan?!? - countless fanservice. - ABUSIVE BROTHER ?? EXCUSE ME - wasn´t interesting enough to keep me watching - no "nerve wrecking / mysterious / kinda scary even" vibes from this anime which is TOTALLY wasted potential. If this was a dark anime, more like Kakegurui or Danganronpa, it would have been great. But with all ... Sep 27, 2017
I'm not gonna lie, I saw the cover, liked the art and decided to give this a chance. I regret my decisions. I can't trust LN's.
Story: So basically, these students attend this highschool where you can get points by performing well. You can buy anything with these points, except for a good anime. There are 4 classes, A,B,C and D , where A is the top class and D is where all the degenerates are. So we have two characters(because nobody cares about the other side characters with better art and animation than the entirety of DBS) Horikita, this generic tsundere, who wants to be ... This does not deserve to be in the psychological genre. It’s a childish mess.
(spoiler free) Story - 2 It’s hard to rate the story in this anime because there isn’t really a clear one. The main characters are introduced, and one of them has the goal to move up class levels, but this is ignored half the time. Other than that, everyone else doesn’t really have a goal, including our protagonist. Instead, the characters experience a couple problems that each last 2-3 episodes and that’s it. Seriously. It’s so horribly strung together. I couldn’t even tell you how I wanted this anime to end because it’s ... Mar 4, 2023
When I went to see this anime my expectations were high, especially with regard to the protagonist Ayanokoji. The initial speech brings an interesting question "Are humans equal?", the more I watched the more this question lost value. I've seen a lot of high school animes, more of the same tires you especially when other people talk about this anime as if it were something amazing.
In the first episode we are presented the school in which the anime will take place, is a prestigious school with high approval indicies that divides students into four classes (A, B, C and D) by skill level. The anime ... Oct 6, 2017
“The more disastrous the mishaps the simpler the reviewing task” - Donal Henahan
And boy does this show have a lot of mishaps. Classroom Of the Elite is the latest in a long line of anime that have a school setting that try to be distinct with its premise and setting, but only end up being as derivative as the ones that came before. COE spin is that students are sent to a special prestigious fully backed by the government academy that only the most best and elite of students can enter. But the best students of what? Athletics? Education? Prestige? I don’t know and the ... Feb 22, 2022
I'm going to say this is not like an official review but more like my honest opinion and I'll get to the point.
This feels like a very badly written fanfiction about high school. Top school in Japan? Says who, if this is the "TOP" then it's bloody disappointing Students act like wannabe gangsters, the plot doesn't progress anywhere. We don't even know what the point of this entire show is. Characters got a good design but that's it, well visually at least. Personality-wise it's as generic as it gets. I mean I can see the appeal to younger audiences, but it definitely is not for me. There are mysteries, ... Jul 22, 2021
Honestly, I thought this was going to be a slice-of-life show with school-life elements similar to shows like BNHA and Relife. It started out good enough, with a likable main character and an interesting enough plot -- I felt that it was setting itself up for a plot in which the characters were going to work together in order to achieve a common goal (which had a lot of potential for found family and character growth). Unfortunately, I never found out because the entire show was riddled with disgusting fanservice that did nothing but take away from the story.
TLDR: could've been good but had unnecessary ... Oct 22, 2017
This anime was one of the biggest waste of my time, I finished it simply because I had to see it to the end if anything good ever happens.
SPOILER FREE SECTION - Many mysteries about both the school system and around the main protagonist are built up. Many questions were posed that would be interesting to find out and explored. Absolutely none of it was answered, after building up some mystery around it, it was never explored again for the entire series. Which makes you think? wtf is the point of this show then? Waste of time, no character development, nothing about the characters are known. SPOILER ... Jan 12, 2021
It's fine, that's pretty much it, the arts nice and it's an interesting concept but doesn't actually work with any of the world it builds. The "under dog class" rising to the top can be extremely interesting (look at Assassination Classroom for a great example) however the 2 characters we spend literally all our time with both have "I can't feel/express emotion" syndrome making all their character interaction very boring. Not to mention I don't really know why the side characters hate D class, we're told there is conflict but never shown and all the interesting plots are between the higher classes like C class

High School of the Elite is an anime that tries to be good. While an overall enjoyable show, there are tons of plot threads that are made to seem important and then totally ignored. While this might be an issue with the anime adaptation and not the source material (idk, haven't read it myself), it's inexcusable how bad the plot was, and the characters are so one-dimensional it's beyond imagination. For example, there is a girl who is a total psycho but has a facade of being nice. Normally that'd be something that is at least affecting their actions usually, but instead she gets caught

I have never felt the need to write a review till I watched this dreadful anime. Anyway I will keep it short since there is nothing good to write about.
This is one of the worst anime I have ever come across and I was surprised that such a pitiful anime has a better score than other average anime out there. Story - After watching the first episode, I was kinda interested in the MC since he resembled Hachiman and I was expecting some kind of meaningful dialogues. But, as the episodes progressed, neither the dialogues nor the story showed any promise. And the story was full ... Feb 27, 2024
Overall opinion:
When I first started watching this show my expectations were pretty high, because of the score and the name of the anime. “Classroom of Elite” elite my ass. This “smart” and “intelligent” young people that Japanese government spends taxpayers money on definitely will be better off burning the money, because these students are smooth brainers. In this supposedly intelligent school we have students that can barely put 1 to 1 together in their daily activities. The pacing is very slow, and there is no action in any shape or form. You are not even introduced to clever mind games for over 5 episodes, which ... Sep 27, 2017
A lot of people would think that this is more closely related to Oregairu and to Ansatsu Kyoushitsu, but them m****** were forgetting that this is more of a darker version of Baka to Test, yes the setting is an elite school, yes it does involve a group of students whom were in a lowest part of the totem pole, ok so it does have some action, and yes someone has to delete the part " Comedy" in MAL's info, cu'z there isn't any comedy here , and even if there is, nobody is laughing. Ecchi would have been better since we did saw some

This show was a pointless cash-grab to promote the author's light novel and it should've never been animated. Classroom of the Elite is a sorry excuse for a psychological anime and is downright horrible.
STORY: The whole school is full of rich, prideful assholes that were just smart enough to make it into an elite boarding school that will expel you if you don't meet the status quo. That being said, there is really no risk factor for any of these prideful pricks. The story deals with events that seem non-important and plot that I forced myself to watch hoping it would get better, which it never ... Jan 14, 2025
I saw a review writing that the first few episodes are interesting and the rest feel like fillers, which is an accurate representation from what I've seen. The story could be interesting if it was actually taking place, instead of the filler episodes. I would add to that one more pretty important fact.
This series is insidious in its portrayal of underage school girls. It is disgusting. Considering what I saw and the way they progressively got bolder until I stopped watching, I would only recommend such a show to a most unscrupulous pedophile. I don't know who else would like this anime. Jul 17, 2022
I don't know how I finished this show; this is the lowest I've ever rated a show since Kanokari. These two are similar as they both have bright colors, pretty character design but terrible plots. Kanokari just gets worse past the first season while CotE is terrible within the first season.
When I went into this I thought it would be like Kakegurui, as that was another show I watched whereas in school ranking was determined by somewhat mind games. CotE has better world building, but it is just not good. Most of the time, the plot is "boys being perverts" but the female characters are ... Mar 5, 2021
How should I start this review? I was expecting quite more from this anime, since its note in MAL is high (a 7 point something, which are the numbers good animes fall in). Nevertheless, it was truly disappointing. I know a lot of people defend the novel, and says that it is way better, and it was bad adapted, but I'm writing about the anime. I'm sure those people are telling the truth, but the fact is that the anime is undoubtedly pretentious and bland.
Story and characters: Really bland. The base idea is fine: An elite school of high competitively, where you are your grades and ... Feb 13, 2021
* Dead fisheye, ultra smart protagonist saving the day on every occasion- check
* Tsundere main girl with long hair who wants to do everything on her own - check * Shallow and generic side characters who does the same thing again & again, mostly just there for plot convenience and nothing else- check * Gag characters that only has one joke - double check * Cliché "not-at-all-overused" plot and absolutely piss poor antagonists - double check An aggressively mediocre anime trying to throw in edgy quotes here and here and trying to act smarter than they are, the anime equivalent of a 2nd semester Philosophy major. I ... Sep 28, 2017
Now, I really did enjoy this show, and can say as of now that I still really do. I don't intend to write a long review, I just came to say that with the way it is now, this show is mediocre at best. On the other hand, if it gets a second season or some other form of continuation I would gladly take out this review, but the show really just needed to get into the characters more. They created a lot of characters with multiple (sides) to them, but with the way it ended, we have no real reason as to WHY they
