Anyway, this short thing ( cry) is about yurio's new choreography, and it really leaves you breathless. The visuals have gotten better from the first season, so its even more beautiful and graceful. Another thing- this was SO intense. Like I was clutching my chest and praying that I wouldn't have a heart attack.

I was glad they they focused on Yurio tho, he was more of a side character and we didn't get to see him much in Yuri On Ice. And..... this shed a little light on yurio and bekkas ship!!!! I was so happy to see my side ship given life ( ... even though I worship victuuri).

As for art,,,, sweet jesus. It was soo good. It makes you thirsty for more. I'm pretty sure I will be able to pass these finals because of this art, like dAMN SON

The "Special" type of anime rarely gets higher ratings. Once in a blue moon there's a special that is actually good (like Mushishi or Gintama ones for example), but most of the time a special is ranked highly because the fanbase of its parent anime just blindly floods it with bloated ratings. Would you like to take a guess which one of the two cases is this Yuri on Ice special?

The main focus of this very short special is eyecandy and fanservice. Sure, the animation isn't bad, the choreography is okay and the song is fine, but it's obvious what the main focus here is. ... With the skimpy outfit, nipslips and even yet again shounen-ai undertone, it's really no wonder this is rated so high - fujoshi are incapable of resisting such sweet bait.

And that's it, that's the whole anime, two and a half minutes of a choreographed fanservice. If you enjoyed the fanservice of the main series, I'm sure you will drool over this one too, but if you want anything of substance, this isn't exactly a place to look for it.

Well there really isn't a story, but someone got leaks of Kubo's manga pages for it and it shows it, and I give it a 10.

The art, OML it is wonderful. It shows sexual art to me, but that is where I am a fangirl but it was done so well!

The sound, 10 because OMG the song 'Welcome To The Madness' is legit amazingness!

Enjoyment 10, it shows the ship between Otabek and Yuri ... TBH and I enjoyed the ice skating done in it. It legit has me nosebleeding over here....

Overall 10 but I had poor quality due to it being uploaded to youtube for a couple of hours.

I don't usually write reviews, but after seeing all the 10's on here, I felt as if I had to. Also, this is my first review, so please forgive me if it's a bit over the place.

Yuri!!! On Ice was one of my favorite anime from last year. It's a show I thought I wouldn't like at all, but when it began airing, everyone was telling me how good it was, so I had to watch it. I was hooked instantly on episode five. I nearly cried on the last episode and I knew quickly it deserved to be in my top ten. A ... few months later, people began going nuts over a short special that was going to show Yurio's and Otabek's exhibition skate coming out in May and even I got quite excited. Now the special is finally out, and even being a YOI fan, I found some issues in a two minute special.


In the original series, I was super happy to see that they gave Yurio a friend, and I do think it was a good idea to make a small special showing something from the show that we didn't get to see before. It's a great idea to see Yurio and Otabek bond together and see their friendship grow and before their exhibition skate together, but when do they talk about skating together? Never. We don't get to see them talking about skating together, it just happens. Granted, there is an upcoming manga showing them talking about skating together as a pair, but this is the special, not the manga, and this two minute special would've worked way better as an OVA. An OVA would've shown Otabek and Yurio talking together, discussing their exhibition skate, bonding together, and letting their friendship grow. Because of this, this short feels like it's rushed, and that problem also ties into the original show, which was also a bit rushed. Then again, this is a two minute special that's trying to be its own thing with a story that's not meant to be extremely criticized. All the creators wanted to do was show Yurio and Otabek skating together as a pair, and that's totally fine. This isn't something that needs a big story to carry it to greatness, this is its own thing that's trying to fix a small issue/nitpick we had with the original TV series, and for what we did get, it was handled rather well. This special is still interesting and immerses you in what's going on and what's happening. Not only that, it also brings back that excitement we got from the TV series. White it could've been better as an OVA, what we got was passable.


A problem I had in the original series was the skating animation. Not all of it was bad, but there was a massive decline as the series went on, giving us a lot of hilarious faces and poses. In this special, however, there is none of that. The animation here is GORGEOUS. It's crisp, clear, fast-paced, and beautiful. There is not one shot that has a derp moment. The animation is mostly centered on Yurio, and every single second on him is near perfection. The way he moves and dances make him feel as if he's real. He moves like an actual human being. Even Otabek, who doesn't move around that much, is also beautifully animated and drawn. When he does move, he feels like he's real because both he and Yurio move so naturally. The shots given to both of the characters and even the audience are well drawn and are actually clever. When Yurio does a special Johnny Weir move, the "camera" pans to him leaning back and gliding across the ice, and even then it flows perfectly. The animation knows when the show the perfect shots, knows how to make the characters move naturally and humanly, and knows how to be beautiful. The series animation may have faulted in some areas, but here, it almost makes up for it by being almost perfect.


I enjoyed every character from Yuri!!! On Ice; even the side characters. While they didn't get as much screen time as I wish, I still remember them for their relatability and personalities. In here, I have only two characters to criticize, in both a positive and slightly negative way. Let's start with Yurio. Yurio is a very interesting character. He's an angsty teen with a soft spot for tigers and his grandpa, while also having incredible talent in skating. In this special, it kind of delivers on what his character is: An edgy teen. The music and dances perfectly embodies his character, and honestly, make him more interesting. The music is screaming, "Fuck you, this is who I am," and that's all I really have to say. It's just Yurio. An angsty, edgy teenager. It's quite incredible to see how you can show who your character is from just poses and music. Otabek, however, I'm mixed on. In my opinion, he was one of the most boring characters from YOI and was shoehorned in so hard. And nothing has changed. He still feels shoehorned and boring. What do we know about him? He likes bears, he's a DJ, and he's Kazahk. Yeah, those things about him are pretty cool, but he as a character still falls flat. I know he doesn't say much, but if this short can make Yurio a bit more interesting, it's a bit disappointing that Otabek hasn't even changed. I wish the special could have made him do a bit more. I do like Otabek for what we got in the show, but I wish he did more. It's quite disappointing. But then again, this special is trying to be something else and totally different from the series, and it's not looking for huge character development, and I probably wouldn't haven't been so hard on it if Yurio stayed the way he was, but since Yurio changed, it's disappointing how Otabek is still boring. Again, this isn't looking for huge character development, and I do feel like I'm being a bit hard on it, and for what we got, it's pretty decent.


I love YOI, and I do believe this a good special to tie the fans over until the movie comes out, but there are a few issues that people aren't recognizing. While the animation is near perfect, Yurio became a bit more interesting, it's great to see Yurio and Otabek interacting with each other more, Otabek remains boring, it's a bit rushed, and we don't really get to see Otabek and Yurio talking with each other about skating together. Yet, this is a special that isn't meant to be judged so harshly, if it was, I'd probably lower the rating to a 6/10. YOI is an anime for everyone, and the love behind it is so strong it just makes me love the series more, and this special has the same love put into the show. If there is something else I really like about the short, it's that it's very entertaining. I was drawn to the screen not only because I was happy to see something YOI related again, but because of the animation and that it was just interesting. It's a good short, nothing more and nothing less, and it's a good tie up for the upcoming movie, and that makes me incredibly happy.

While "Welcome to The Madness" is a sort of spin-off special from the anime (Yuri!!! on Ice), what makes it special is that it focuses not at the Victuuri/Viktuuri ship, but at both Yuri(o) Plisetsky and Otabek Altin, a ship which most of the YoI fandom dubbed as "OtaYuri."

If you couldn't help but cringe at Viktor and Yuuri's antics last Fall 2016, maybe you can survive through this two-and-a-half minute special if you really aren't a fan of, well, you know.

STORY (10)

It is surely illogical to tell someone, "Hey, even side stories should be long and the most important thing you need as you write one is the dialogue!", right? While most would agree, WTTM proved that it can execute its “story” skillfully even without a dialogue.

At one's first glance to the first few seconds of the show, you'll realize that there's no story at all other than Yurio's exhilarating performance inside the rink. Still, it was enough to leave me with my mouth agape (not the theme) by the end.

Nothing much to say, but the animation and style are favorably better at depicting Yurio's daring stunts and Otabek's sexiness at the sidelines (literally).

This is what I want to praise the most - the sound set the intensity and atmosphere of the exhibition, straying away from the Agape and Eros that we all knew were echoing in our minds before. One of my favorites from the franchise.

CHARACTERS (9)

Russia's Ice Tiger, Yuri Plisetsky, gets most of the screen time here as the show points the spotlight at him. His looks fit (very) well with the soundtrack, giving off a "rock and roll" aura.

On the other hand, Kazakhstan's Otabek Altin returns with a finger gun and makes use of his mouth. Something Otayuri shippers would look forward to. *wink*

Man, 2 1/2 minutes ain't enough! WTTM is a show that is worth the watch, especially to those fans and fujoshis waiting for the upcoming movie.

Generally specials and OVAs rarely get better ratings than the parent story. But in this case, the exhibition routine performed by Yuri Plisetsky is so hot I had to rate it higher than the series. The art is just outstanding, the music fits perfectly with the choreography and the dance is fierce, sensual AND erotic as the stakes just kept getting higher. It starts out as a challenge, then the gloves come off (literally) with the second glove being bitten off by his rival. Around now I started to fan my face as it was getting hot in here. Then the slide and a lot ... of sexiness follows ... wow. If this skate routine could be done with that costume in real life, the skating fan community would have people getting pregnant after watching that performance. I enjoyed this thoroughly!

Welcome to The Madness features a high-quality level of animation that many people, including myself, wish the actual anime it's derived from had. Those familiar with MAPPA's other projects, such as Terror in Resonance, likely associate this animation studio with a better level of visual output than what's represented in the majority of Yuri on Ice itself, and this short is a solid glimpse at what we were hoping Yuri on Ice would look like.

Throughout the series proper, Yuri on Ice consistently made efforts to depict figure skating with a degree of realism. Welcome to The Madness continues that trend. Because it depicts an exhibition ... routine, it focuses more on flavor and less on the competitive elements of figure skating. This is not only accurate to real life, but also makes it a smart topic for a stand-alone short, since it would be arguably more difficult to deliver a satisfying viewing experience while focusing on more competitive aspects of skating in such a short amount of time.

TL;DR: Welcome to The Madness is visually beautiful, a relatively realistic depiction of figure skating, and well worth a few minutes of your time if you are fan of Yuri on Ice. 10/10

I started watching YOI because I'm addicted to figure skating... as a Metal Head What disappoints me is that IRL there aren't any skaters doing programs to Metal music.... damn ... this was hot and really curbed my cravings for more Metal in other Areas of my life! Thank you Japan, you made my day!
I really hope they do make more specials with full Programs. I enjoy watching the Routines, and in the main YOI we don«t always get to see the full program in favour of the story ( which is good... we want the story to develop), but as someone who likes figure ... Skating I'm a bit curious to know the full routines so a special with the main cast Routines would be welcome ( also good as a comparison when the character deviates from the Original Program)...
I am so Happy... there haven't been many Ice Skating Movies worth watching since the Mid 2000's so I hope YOI revives the trend in the West as well!

I've charged myself with writing a review for everything I've seen that has a page on this site, so here I am reviewing two minutes of content. What can you do?

K, so honestly, this skate routine may be the best one in the series. It's freakin' kick-ass. First of all, the lighting is absolutely gorgeous. The art in Yuri!!! On Ice has always been breathtaking, but this particular short stood out a lot. The jumps and moves that Yurio was animated to do were clean and sharp, and it really brought out the angst and fire that the routine was supposed to have.

On top ... of that, you'll get a little bit of fanservice in this two minutes, but if you don't appreciate Yurio and Otabek's relationship, this probably doesn't matter to you. Honestly, it was an awesome little moment that was shown between those two since we didn't get to see much of their friendship in the anime. The music, of course, killed it. It went with the routine very well.

This two minutes is definitely worth your time if you liked the series. The lighting, the sound, the outfits, the characters, the skating, it's all really freakin' cool. Like I said, that may be my favorite routine in the entirety of Yuri!!! On Ice.

Last check on my phone before I go to sleep. Reads that "welcome to the madness" was just aired. 'Oh well let's watch it before going to sleep' Guess who didn't get enough sleep that night... OMG this was pure beauty and awesomeness!

1) The story. We have the best story ever! A simple choreography! Ok, there is no story, just beautifull dancing on ice.

2)Art. The crappy camera version on YouTube. Sigh...I'l have to be patient and wait for the 1080p version...

3) The Sound. Baby, I've been waiting for Yurio to dance to a music like this! Metal is one of my favourite music genres, ... but being a ballerina, I'm not allowed to dance to anything else but classical. Yurio skating to "Welcome to madness" was like a cool breeze in a hot summer day!

4) Character. Yurio, my son, dancing on ice with Beka. Not much to say here... LOVE IT!

5) Enjoyment. Awesome music, the gayness is in a whole different level, ice skating, Yurio my precious kitten....hell yeah it was so enjoyable!

Since this is so short of a video, I don't think I really need to do a full, you know, proper review with all of those categories. I'll just get to the point.

Oh. My. GOD.
Rarely ever, perhaps even never, does a 2 minute video give me such genuine excitement. The surge of emotions I felt from start to finish while watching this was absolutely INCREDIBLE.
As don't own a copy of the DVD, I had to watch it on YouTube. While the picture quality was less than ideal, the gorgeous animation still shone through.

Yuri's outfit? Bold. Amazing. Sexy. His skating? Bold. Amazing. ... Sexy. His interaction with Otabek? VERY SEXY.
All this manservice was 120% appreciated. I about lost it when Yuri's shirt slid up.
Oh, and the glove thing. OMG the glove thing.

Anyways, if you like YUI or even if you have never seen anything from the entire franchise, you should watch this. RIGHT NOW.
It's only a couple of minutes, after all. What do you have to lose?
