Umaru-chan is back with her wackiness from the first season, and from what was seen, hopes to be another good season (formula replication from New Game!!)
Again, I've never watched the first season, and looking at preliminary episodes, just like New Game!, am tempted to watch after the whole series end in December.
Continuing the antics from the first season, Umaru Doma, along with her older brother Taihei, seems to be your typical model student with a good personality But once she reaches home, the chibi-ness of her personality shows out, always relying on her older brother, frustrating him lots and lots.
Based on the manga of the
same name (which is popular too, AND NO SPOILERS since the episodes revolve around the manga at random), fans of Season 1 won't be disappointed here.
All the characters are back to reprise their roles, and holy hell is it wackier than before. Umaru has her real self and alias (UMR), the typical whiner at home and perfection outside, her older brother Taihei as capable as he is, Ebina still crushing on Taihei, Sylphyn as TSR (when with UMR) and her competitive spirit and Kirie, whom always have a great affection towards Umaru.
Regardless of how these characters become, expect a good show roundabout.
Just like New Game!, Doga Kobo went with the route of rebooting their older series in the hope that the sequel seasons will be better than the first, and they proved that with the former, and now the latter.
So both the art and animation aspects are upgraded to look more modern while keeping the originals intact, again Doga Kobo has done a wonderful job on maintaining what the original was and made it even better.
The OST also went through a nice upgrade from the first season, and they are not my favourites but are enjoyable to listen to as it poses the wackiness of the series progression.
Verdict (after Ep 4):
It might seem like the whole universe of UMR is around wackiness, but that's how the show entices people to watch, and Season 2 is no different. Regardless whether you want some time to chill out, this is a series that's highly recommended.
Now I have to watch both New Game! and UMR Season 1 after this...
This looks more like a reboot to me, except with one upside—more goofier than the first season. Umaru-chan herself is starting to realize her laziness, and the other characters—they feel more characterized than before.
Don't expect new characters—it's the same thing, except twice as better. We get more screentime for the side characters (like Sylphynford's brother) and more relaxing scenes. We get to see more of UMR, and we get to see Taihei and Ebina-chan together.
The art style is the same thing as it was before, and the sound is also the same thing as it was before. I liked the opening and ending songs more
than the previous one, though.
Umaru's laziness is still there, except twice as lazy (and twice as hate and murderous intent I want towards her loli side).
My overall enjoyment for this show is great, it's because it's greater and have more fun than the first season. This is a good anime to watch when you're bored, if you don't have any problems with Umaru, that is.
It's okay to watch the first season, because I think this isn't a second season at all—more like a reboot.
