Both are Victorian era spy thrillers set in European countries with mind games and deception. The main casts try to blend in with the civilian population by being students

Both series features cute High school girls who are also spies.

Both series are based around spies. Stories revolve around their missions. Tone is serious and dramatical. Joker Game is based in real world history between WW1 and WW2, where Princess Principal take place in alternate steampunk version of victorian era.

Both star high school girls who work undercover for some sort of organization. Both are action-based.

If you want a story set in somewhat of a Victorian London look no further Gosick and Princess Principal are the best anime for you. Gosick is full of intriguing mysteries and Princess Principal is all about the spy action.

If you want noir action in anime or just an anime with a great atmosphere I can recommend you many anime, two of those being "91 Days" and "Princess Principal". While 91 Days puts more focus on the mafia, Princess Principal puts it on spy action in victorian London.
report Recommended by JokerDBlue
Both have female MCs, mysterious relationship among two main characters, some stupid dialogues, decent plots and plot twists. Most of the similarities are superficial but if you liked Madoka Magicka then you might find Princess Principal enjoyable.

War, diplomatic problems, death, hardship, ever so slight Yuri... yeah they are rather similar

They have very similar vibe, similar setup and motives regarding crime, detectives and mystery.

Cute Girl(s) with a gun made by the same studio with the same character designer.

Military girls in a western-styled steampunk alt world, going through both action, drama, and sliceoflife

If you are the type of person who loves the Victorian Gothic or Dark British settings then you will enjoy both series. The plot points aren't entirely similar, but the aesthetic certainly is.

In general, I got a very similar feeling from both anime; probably primarily because both are about a team of badass female secret agents. Also in both anime these secret agents have some kind of super power. Princess Principal takes place in England while ROD has ties to this country. Both are good anime, so if you enjoyed one make sure to check out the other.

Both are based in England with steampunk themes.

Perfect timing for some new coming-age story with both redeeming obscure storyline

Both shows take place during Victorian era England and focus heavily on a secret group that performs various criminal nature activities (more espionage in PP)

If you appreciated the subtle but strong affection that made the characters in Princess Principal keep fighting, then Akuma no Riddle has a similar way of telling its story. Plus it's another cast of badass, skilled girls although less friendly with each other for sure.

Similarities: - Group of people that go on missions. - The supernatural plays somewhat of a role - Lots of action - Both have a newbie in the group Differences: - While both have mystery, Princess Principal's characters are spies while Bungou's are detectives. - Bungou is more comedic - Princess has interesting timeline and mysterious characters

Peace - a goal that the main cast from Princess Principal and Jormungand both share. The main characters from Princess Principal and Jormungand follow a powerful woman in order to make the woman's goal come true. Angelica's goal, being to dismantle the Wall that separates a fictional 20th century London in political turmoil to obtain peace in its country. Koko's goal is simply peace in a world dominated by tension and violence - as a gun dealer. They try to achieve this goal through the variety of missions they get, all being either violent or passive work. Jormungand deals with a lot of gun-related topics, often the  read more

Although neither animes seem similar to each other, there are, in fact, some similarities in aspects. Some of which include: -Timeline. Both animes take place during similar timelines; Attack on Titan from 1893 to 1942, and Princess Principal in the 19th century. -Place. Neither animes take place in Japan; Attack on Titan in Madagascar (from what I’ve researched), and Princess Principal in London. -Wall. The wall in both animes play an important role in the plot. I don’t feel like explaining, but basically both walls divide something and something else. -Plot. As I said, neither animes seem similar to each other. However, there is actually some similarity in plot.  read more

You cannot trust anyone (not even yourself perhaps?). In a world where the mission is put first, and the job is absolute, teams of spies and con artists make for an interesting trek with the countless missions they are assigned; a faint hope trails them, however, and that is the truth of their relationship. Taught to be strangers with one another, only to exploit the abilities we possess, these spies and con artists still make for some wild content and enjoyable episodes. PP is set around the streets and royalties of Victorian London, whereas GP is a global network. Despite that faint message in their heads  read more

While they may look really different, both shows are situated in a war. The big diffrerence is that in Youjo senki the MC fights in the front, and in princess principal the MCs are spies. Both have action scenes and have some magical artifacts to help them fight.

Badass girls. The battles are amazing. Lovely characters.

Both shows are about young girls on an adventure through an alternate timeline with elements of steampunk/diesel-punk and retro futurism. Daughter of Twenty Faces is a complete story though, and not nearly as episodic in nature as Princess Principal. If you're looking for a somewhat dark narrative with a strong female lead, you can't go wrong with Daughter of Twenty Faces.

An espionage-oriented anime that can be both action-oriented and philosophically inclined with episodes ranging from a fun one-on-one battle of spy vs eccentric assassin to the human condition and nature of hatred and war.

Both have alternate history settings. Princess Principal is an early 20th century steampunk Britain divided into two nations, Jouran is Meiji era Japan if the Tokugawa shogunate never lost power. Both series cast feature intrigue and secret agents, as well as a mysterious resource that allows the nations to thrive and dominate.
report Recommended by Weedwacker
Both take place in post-war steampunk worlds and consist of mostly episodic stories with female centric protagonists.

I can't flat out say why these two titles are similar, because it involves a spoiler with Princess Principal. However, if you have seen Princess Principal, you might like Turn A Gundam because it has a similar setting, with similar conflicts going on in the background. If you liked the plot twist in Turn A Gundam, but for some reason wished that Gundams weren't the center attraction, you will enjoy Princess Principal for its resemblance to the Cold War, and focus on spy related work.

Both series were written by Ichiro Okouchi, who reused many of the same ideas present in Code Geass. Most notably the alternate history setting with a macguffin (Sakuradite in Code Geass, the C-ball in Princess Principal) to allow for the futuristic tech in Code Geass (despite being set in our equivalent of the 1960s) or steampunk in the alternate late 1800s in Princess Principal. Both series feature alternate versions of the British Empire with the Holy Britannian Empire of Code Geass being a global superpower and the Britain in Princess Principal being split up much like East/West Germany. The Ange-Charlotte relationship really reminded me of Lelouch  read more

Seemly cute girls doing cute things shows have a much darker side than portrayed in the trailers and previewers. Moreover, these shows will leave you guessing what is going to happen next.
report Recommended by FireX
The reasons the two are similar is because of their focus on individual missions, that don't have much in common other than the characters who complete said missions.Another common aspect of the two shows is that the main cast is mostly if not fully made out of girls from varying ages. The difference is that in Gunslinger Girl the girls are an experiment to create good assassins, while in Princess Principal they are spies who do their job mostly out of free will.

Both have: -Fantastic chase and action sequences that leave you on the edge of your seat -Amazing OSTs that play in prominent situations -A crew in an organization with different strengths to put on the table -Episodic/ No linear storytelling (Take that as you will) -A satisfying feeling to binge watch on a lazy day

They both have incredibly similar settings. They are both very action packed. One of them leans towards the supernatural and the other one leans towards sci-fi. They both have small groups of characters that are part of a particular organisation.

Another year, another anime about people in Victorian London(Princess Principal adding steampunk to the mix and Black Butler adding supernatural mysteries). In both anime there is a mix of relaxing and dark/cruel atmosphere.
report Recommended by JokerDBlue
Both are to be considered noir anime, starring female characters and giving off almost the same atmosphere. They both include assassins, although in Princess Principal the assassins are also spies. So if you want noir action with spies or the mafia look no further.
report Recommended by JokerDBlue
Both of these have similar moods such as atmosphere that build up a darker story and bother have similar way to tell story. If you like the dark tones you be fine but if beside that there is not a lot that similar.
